Announcing Eid has always been an issue.
In Canada there is a Toronto Hilal Committee which was setup to see moon and announce Eid. A lot of Canada mosques were members of this committee. Their criteria is local moon sighting but sometimes it feels like North America only and sometimes both North America and South America. The time differences has played a major rule. One time I think they announced one decision and then late night changed that decision.
Now I have heard that couple of big mosques (like Nugget mosque, markham mosque and masjid darul iman) have left this committee and now using the Global moon sighting criteria i.e. if moon has been sighted anywhere in the world then accept it. I think it makes lot of sense. What do you guys think?
