Announcing Eid has always been an issue.

In Canada there is a Toronto Hilal Committee which was setup to see moon and announce Eid. A lot of Canada mosques were members of this committee. Their criteria is local moon sighting but sometimes it feels like North America only and sometimes both North America and South America. The time differences has played a major rule. One time I think they announced one decision and then late night changed that decision.

Now I have heard that couple of big mosques (like Nugget mosque, markham mosque and masjid darul iman) have left this committee and now using the Global moon sighting criteria i.e. if moon has been sighted anywhere in the world then accept it. I think it makes lot of sense. What do you guys think?

In UK there are two camps - Saudi and those who follow reputable sightings in SA or Morocco.

This year, as like a few years ago, there was a supposed sighting but of all the countries, in No - not a place regularly used for confirmation.

As a result, there have been two camps within the latter but as per previous times it having occured, those who have always followed the SA/Morroco sighting, have often been proven right the days after. Time will tell in this regards.
