well i am from the generation who started there chat experience on Mirc, Yahoo and MSN. those were the Golden days for the net users, especially the Yahoo chat rooms , i couldnt even find the same chat site or application till this date.
so what was your experience using the Yahoo chat ?

For internet, that era had Innocence of Youth. Much like Television in 80s. Most things get corrupted after initial era of innocence.
Even Orkut was a popular platform.

Innocence of Internet was lost forever with advent of FB.

Who remembers typing like this on MSN -----> hE||0 hOw aR3 u?

Also one technique was to change status from appear offline to online repeatedly so that your crush got a pop up notification :))

Those were the days!

We 90s kids were the first ones to see the evolution of internet.

Don’t forget orkut and MySpace :))

I personally can’t stand Instagram or SnapChat - maybe I’m just too old lol

never was on Yahoo but MSN Messenger was my jam.

Lol there were some school friends who i would exclusively talk to just on MSN in the evening and have little more than 'hi, hello' actually in school

Do you remember Nudge and Buzz in MSN and Yahoo Messenger? :inti

Shows how they failed to adapt.

Also for someone from a generation of YM, MSN can't believe you asked for dating advice.

MSN was good with it's gui but YM had way too many features and should had migrated to phone when Iphone became huge unfortunate they got complacent.. biggest blunders committed in tech would be YM.

I have actually used even AOL chat rooms as a kid, luckily my parents bought me a comp and even got me internet but failed to monitor my actions :)) , Chennai schools were so awesome as a kid everyone was a nerd in the class.

My most fav thing on net early on in 1999 was to see who is the current WWF or WCW champ as India had the telecast almost after a month

Both very unique, esp Myspace with Tom and the common chatrooms it was the first place where I chatted with Pakistanis online..mostly the ones living abroad..
Another one was Hi5

Instagram,Fb, Snap though were able to monetize unlike Myspace,Orkut.

You mean early 90s, us mid 90s and late 90s kids don't remember this era lol.

it makes me angry when people call that facebook messanger app as mesanger

there was only one messanger back in the day and it was msn messanger

Omegle and hoping against hope that at least 1/100 matches won't be another dude :))) :)))

It was amazing back then talking to people live somewhere else in the world. It was almost unreal at first, now with so many apps to talk and video chat live the excitement has faded.

Yahoo chat rooms were fun in early 2000's. I mostly kept to cricket and movie chat rooms in those days. Yahoo's inability to control spams bots made people lose interest.

Yup. I remember bulletin boards back in early 90s, and then mirc at university.

Also don't forget AoL chat.

Yahoo chat rooms were great!

I believe that Yahoo shut down the chat rooms because they were a few cases of pedophiles chatting, and instead of banning them it decided to just get rid of the rooms. Idiots!

Golden days? More like dark days when there were no cyber laws and no awareness among parents of the threat posed by the internet. Was golden days for pedophiles and other predators.

Those happened due to Private chat rooms. Official chat rooms still continued for many years. Due to excessive spam i was forced to use unofficial messenger client like yahlite which helped a bit. Yahoo messenger had it shares of bugs too where you could easily knock someone out of chat room by sending a private message will few selected characters.

Yeah, but the private chat rooms had many interesting and legal topics and banning them made the rooms boring. Incredibly, the Yahoo chat rooms were fully functional back around 1996, what a head start Yahoo had and threw away!
