Gujarat Titans Beat Rajasthan Royals To Win Maiden IPL Title in 2022

IPL 2022 | 23 April - 29 May | Matches Discussions

With Chennai almost out of this year's edition, I want the either of Rajasthan or Bangalore to win the tournament. There's this du Plessis connection with the latter, him being originally a Chennai Super King, and the Buttler force alone deserves to go home with a trophy this time around for the former. I would love a final between these two teams.

Teams with best bowling attacks are doing well in IPL.

GT, SRH, RR, LSG and RCB have got the best bowling attacks with no weakness in the bowling(spin or pace).

KKR, PBKS, CSK and MI are relying on one or two individual in their relatively poor bowling attack.

Delhi have got good attack too but they seem to have left their brains at home this season.

Kuldeep Sen took four wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin returned with three wickets as Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 29 runs in the 39th game of IPL 2022 at MCA Stadium in Pune.

No RCB batter was able to stay at the crease for a long haul and in the end, RR registered a comfortable victory. Virat Kohli once again disappointed with the bat as he managed just 9 runs. Earlier, a spirited bowling performance helped Royal Challengers Bangalore restrict Rajasthan Royals to 144/8 in the 39th game of ongoing IPL 2022 at MCA Stadium in Pune. Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga and Mohammed Siraj returned with two wickets each for RCB. For RR, Riyan Parag top-scored with a knock of 56 runs.

Earlier Rajasthan Royals were asked to bat by Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League has passed the half-way mark after a month of high-octane action in the world's richest Twenty20 cricket tournament.

SMILING ASSASSIN

Jos Buttler has smiled his way to the top of this season's batting chart with three sparkling centuries for Rajasthan Royals.

The softly spoken Englishman has been a bowler's nightmare with 491 runs in seven matches to take Royals into the top four of the 10-team table.

His latest 65-ball knock of 116 against Delhi Capitals puts him in with a chance of chasing Virat Kohli's 2016 record of 973 runs in a season.

"Jos has a cheat code for batting," England fast bowler Jofra Archer tweeted.

KOHLI FLOPS

The former India captain and national superstar Virat Kohli has been struggling with the worst slump of his stellar career after two successive golden ducks for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kohli has managed just 119 runs from eight matches, following his lacklustre recent form for his country with the prolific run scorer unable to manage an international century for more than two years.

Disbelief after dismissal, a wry smile and a dejected walk back to the pavilion have been familiar sights for "King Kohli" this IPL season.

Batting great Sunil Gavaskar said it is "anxiety" to get going that is playing on the star batsman's mind.

POWERHOUSES TUMBLE

Mumbai Indians and defending champions Chennai Super Kings have won nine of the 14 IPL titles since the league was launched.

But the powerhouse teams are languishing at the bottom of the standings with Mumbai winless and Chennai managing just two victories from eight.

Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma, who has made just 153 runs, blamed his batsmen, including himself, after the latest loss to Lucknow Super Giants when failing to chase down 168.

Fans have backed a turnaround and Rohit has acknowledged their "faith and undying loyalty to this team so far".

TITANIC DEBUT FOR GUJARAT

IPL debutants Gujarat Titans have been the team to beat this year and sit on top of the table with six wins out of seven matches.

Allrounder Hardik Pandya has led from the front with 295 runs and four wickets off his pace bowling.

Afghanistan spin wizard Rashid Khan has also shone with the ball, and a match-winning batting blitz, while South African David Miller made an unbeaten 94 to stun Chennai.

Gujarat have also shocked two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders and former India opener Wasim Jaffer called them a "surprise package".

UMPIRES GET PANT FUMING

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant almost called his batsmen from the field to protest against an umpire's call against Rajasthan Royals during an ill-tempered match last week.

The drama happened on the third ball of the final over when Obed McCoy bowled a high full toss that Delhi believed should have been called a no-ball for being above the waist.

Pant and assistant coach Pravin Amre, who walked on to the pitch, were both fined 100 per cent of their match fee. Amre was also suspended for one match.

Umpiring controversies are not new to IPL. Mahendra Singh Dhoni walked onto the field in 2019 to protest at a no-ball call and was docked 50 per cent of his match fee.

Just looked at the scorecard. What a shame Umran ended up in the losing side. Did Marco Jansen just bowl poorly?

Love him or hate him rashid khan has that afgan fighting sprit. You just cant dismiss him totally. If he fails with the ball he somehow manage to deliver with the bat

He is one of those champion players who will always be in the limelight of a match someway

KKR dropping Sam Billings to accommodate Finch was a poor strategy , they messed up everything

KKR was never sure about their playing XI , almost all the main players lack consistency. Next season they need to have a serious rethink. They need to have to make some big changes , otherwise all three years they will struggle. They need to get hold of a new WK from somewhere , or make someone a makeshift Keeper.

48 runs so far , KKR need some very very big overs here to have something to bowl at , Delhi has very strong top order

Kuldeep showing his class when on a song and lol@Pant I wish we had such luck in world tournaments joke of a stumping.

Marsh is already back to playing, I thought he was hospitalized.

Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by four wickets in Match 41 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

Chasing a target of 147 runs, DC reached 150 for six in 19 overs with David Warner registering 42 runs off 26 balls. Rovman Powell hit the match-winning six and smacked an unbeaten knock of 33 runs off 16 balls.

Initially, KKR posted 146 for nine in 20 overs with DC's Kuldeep Yadav taking four wickets in three overs.

GT look like the Team to beat currently. A lot of match winners throughout the team.

The way Rahul T and RK finished off the game vs SRH was scintillating.

A brilliant finish by Avesh Khan helped Lucknow Super Giants prevail over Punjab Kings to win by 20 runs. Mohsin Khan ended with 3 wickets while Dushmantha Chameera and Krunal Pandya took two each in an epic bowling display.

Earlier, Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow departed to put LSG in command of the match. Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow steadied PBKS' ship after a flurry of wickets in the first 10 overs of the run-chase but soon the former lost his wicket to Mohsin Khan. Dushmantha Chameera dismissed skipper Mayank Agarwal for 25 runs as KL Rahul took a good catch at the mid-off region. Soon, Ravi Bishnoi took Shikhar Dhawan's wicket followed by Bhanuka Rajapaksa departing to Krunal Pandya to jolt PBKS in the run-chase. Chasing 154 for a win, Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal started cautiously before the latter took on the bowlers vs LSG. Kagiso Rabada ended with four wickets as LSG were restricted to 153/8 by PBKS bowlers.

Batting first, after a tentative start post KL Rahul's early wicket, LSG tried to recover through Quinton De Kock and Deepak Hooda. However, all hopes of a big total ended quite quickly as LSG lost five wickets in quick succession to have themselves at 144/8 in 18.3 overs. Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni were also dismissed to help PBKS fight back amazingly. Sandeep Sharma dismissed De Kock while Hooda was run-out followed by Krunal falling to Arshdeep Singh. Stoinis, Holder also departed after showing some promise at the crease. PBKS captain Mayank Agarwal won the toss and opted to field at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

Gujarat Titans on Saturday defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets in Match 43 of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Chasing a target of 171, Gujarat Titans chased down the target with six wickets and three balls to spare. Rahul Tewatia and David Miller remained unbeaten on 43 and 39, respectively. Earlier, Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar scored fifties at the top order as RCB posted a total of 170 for six against GT.

After winning the toss and elected to bat, RCB lost the early wicket of skipper Faf du Plessis as Pradeep Sangwan struck in the second over to mark his comeback. However, Kohli and Patidar added 99 runs for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed on 52. Kohli soon followed him after Mohammed Shami castled him for 58. Glenn Maxwell and Mahipal Lomror played cameos of 33 and 16 as RCB managed to reach 170. For GT, Sangwan took two wickets while Shami, Lockie Ferguson, Alzarri Joseph and Rashid Khan also bagged a wicket each.

Gujarat Titans extended their dominance at the top of the table with a six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League here on Saturday and inched closer towards clinching a play-off spot in their inception year. After failing multiple times, Virat Kohli finally came out out of a prolonged slump in form by registering his first IPL fifty in 14 matches, including nine this season, as Royal Challengers Bangalore posted a challenging 170 for six. In reply, Rahul Tewatia (43 not out) and David Miller (39 not out) did the job for GT after the table toppers were struggling at 95 for four in the 13th over.

With 16 points which has been the magic mark, Titans are well on course towards a top-two finish at the end of league stage.

On the day, Kohli made 58 off 53 balls before walking back to the dugout amid a standing ovation at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rajat Patidar blasted a 32-ball 52 -- his maiden IPL fifty -- while Glenn Maxwell blazed away to 33 in 18 deliveries to prop up RCB The returning Pradeep Sangwan was excellent with the ball, finishing with figures of 2/19, while Rashid Khan gave away just 29 runs in his four over to check the flow of runs in the middle overs.

GT were off to a sound start with Wriddhiman Saha (31) and Shubman Gill (29) putting on 51 runs before Wanindu Hasaranga effected the first breakthrough by removing the former.

Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed had Shubman Gill trapped in front of the wicket. GT skipper Hardik Pandya (3) once again got out cheaply, falling to Shahbaz.

Sai Sudharsan chipped in with a 14-ball 20 before Hasaranga picked up his second wicket, the batter caught by substitute keeper Anuj Rawat as Dinesh Karthik did not take to the field.

Sudharsan's dismissal left RT at 95 for four with the innings entering the 14th over.

Needing 71 from six overs, David Miller hit Hasaranga for a six and four to collect 13 runs, and then, two boundaries by Rahul Tewatia and four off a leg bye got GT 15 runs from a Mohammed Siraj over.

Harashl Patel bowled an economical 17th over before Tewatia flicked Josh Hazlewood for a six over fine-leg. Two more fours followed in the same over as GT closed in on yet another win.

Earlier, Mohammed Shami pulled out twice in his run up, the false starts leaving the umpire annoyed, before the seasoned India seamer beat Kohli with his late movement.

Out in the middle was a batting maestro battling a lean patch but it didn't quite look like that really when the former India captain played Shami for two lovely boundaries -- one down the ground past mid-of and the second a flick square of the wicket on the leg-side.

RCB's top-order woes continued, though, as left-arm seamer Sangwan marked his return to the league with the wicket of rival skipper Faf du Plessis in his very first over.

Fresh from his invaluable half-century in the previous game, Wriddhiman Saha had no problem holding on to du Plessis' thick outside edge after the bowler had set him up.

Alzarri Joseph was introduced, and he saw Kohli play a classic cover drive and then pull a short one over the mid-wicket region for a boundary.

In came Lockie Ferguson and the New Zealand pacer's low full toss was smashed over long-on by Kohli, who followed that up with a four towards backyard point.

Even as Kohli was getting into the groove, Patidar was gaining in confidence, thanks to the flurry of confident strokes that flowed from his willow during their 99-run association.

Alzarri bowled one short and Patidar pulled him over deep mid-wicket for a six and found a four in the next ball to close in on his maiden IPL fifty. He got there soon, reaching the landmark in only 29 balls with a four off Ferguson.

There was a bigger roar at the ground just before that as Kohli reached his half-century in 45 balls.

Patidar took the risks and largely succeeded, helping Kohli to settle down and get som runs under his belt.

Sangwan got his second of the match when Patidar top-edged the seamer, and Kohli too failed to convert his fifty into a bigger score as a Shami delivery made its way through, even as the batter tried to make room and play it through cover

RR 158/6 (20)

MI 161/5 (19.2)

Mumbai Indians won by 5 wkts

Mumbai Indians finally opened their account in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League with a five-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals on Saturday. Seasoned Suryakumar Yadav and young Tilak Varma gave the best 35th birthday present to their skipper Rohit Sharma as Mumbai Indians finally opened their account. Chasing a victory target of 159, MI reached home in 19.2 overs, courtesy Surya (51 off 39 balls) and Tilak (35 off 30 balls) adding 81 for the third wicket.

It was MI's first win after eight successive defeats and even though the result bears little consequence but it is certainly going to keep the five-time champions in a good mind space.

Losing is also a kind of habit like winning, albeit a bad one, as with it self belief also goes out of the window. Rohit didn't look one bit of his cheery self when he was cutting his birthday cake and by the end of the day, a win must have felt like a healing balm.

Teams then manage to snatch defeat from jaws of victory and something of that order was happening on Saturday night before Surya and Tilak sang the redemption song with Tim David (20 not out off 9 balls) providing the finishing touch.

It was Daniel Sams who hit the winning six to send the spectators into a frenzy.

Rohit's run of poor scores continued as he tried a slog sweep off Ravichandran Ashwin (4-0-21-1) and offered an easy catch to Daryl Mitchell at square leg.

The price tag of Rs 15.25 crore is increasingly seeming like a noose around Ishan Kishan's (26 of 18 balls) neck as he started well but in desperation to over-compensate mis-timed a pull-shot.

Surya was once again smooth in his strokeplay and so was MI's most consistent player of the season Tilak, whose lofted six was a delightful watch.

The duo took its own time to first settle down, taking the team's score to 75 in first 10 overs and set an ideal platform to knock off the remaining 82 off back-10.

Since there wasn't scoreboard pressure, Surya and Tilak were able to keep the momentum going with singles and doubles while waiting for the occasional loose ball.

Surya brought up his fifty with a muscular six over wide long-on off Ashwin's last delivery off his spell.

Tilak followed suit with his second six but soon after both the batters fell going for unnecessary big shots when it wasn't the need of the hour.

From 122 for two, MI slumped to 122 for 4 with Pollard and David at the crease.

Earlier, Buttler threatened to hit six sixes in an over but managed four on the bounce in his 52-ball-67 as Rajasthan Royals were restricted to 158 for six by Mumbai Indians in a what was a below par batting show.

Buttler wasn't in his element for the better part of the innings before launching into rookie off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen, hitting him for four consecutive sixes between the long-on to long-off arc.

He holed out in the deep in the final ball of the 16th over as MI prevented the England marauder to cause more damage at the death.

Shokeen, who had bowled flat and tight in the previous games, looked like a lamb for slaughter conceding 47 in 3 overs which included half a dozen of sixes, forcing him to come round the wicket but that was of little benefit.

In nine games so far, Buttler has already amassed 566 runs at an average which is northwards of 70 and a strike-rate of 155 plus.

But on the day, MI attack performed way better than they have in the initial games with new inductee left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya being extremely impressive in his first outing on the big stage.

The best bowler on the day for MI was Aussie pacer Riley Meredith, who had best figures of 2 for 24 in stipulated quota of four overs, cleverly mixing variety of slower deliveries during couple of spells. He gave only three runs in the 20th over.

Debutant Kartikeya (4-0-19-1) had nine dot balls, the prize wicket of rival skipper Sanju Samson, who had by then hit a couple of sixes off Shokeen and more importantly in 24 deliveries conceded just a single boundary which spoke volumes about his temperament.

Another Jos Buttler special.

Unheralded Uttar Pradesh left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan put up an exceptional bowling performance as Lucknow Super Giants beat Delhi Capitals by six runs on Sunday, thereby taking a giant stride towards qualifying for the IPL play-offs. It was skipper KL Rahul's 77 off 51 balls and newly promoted Deepak Hooda's 52 off 34 balls that propelled LSG to an imposing 195 for 3 despite stuttering towards the end of the innings.

In reply, Mohsin (4/16 in 4 overs) got breakthroughs exactly when things seemed to spiral out of control as Delhi Capitals finally managed 189 for 7 in the end.

LSG now have 14 points from 10 games and another win out of the remaining four games would seal a play-off spot for them considering 16 being the magic number in most years.

For DC, things get really tough from hereon as 8 points from nine games mean that they might have to win four out of their remaining five games which looks to be an uphill task with this bowling attack which has been defensive on most occasions.

At least two among Rishabh Pant (42 off 24 balls), Mitchell Marsh (37 off 20 balls) and Rovman Powell (35 off 21 balls) needed to score in excess of 60 to make a match of it.

But Mohsin, who produced disconcerting bounce with his mostly back of the length balls, occasionally slipped in a fuller blockhole delivery as his victims included all the big names like David Warner (3), Pant, Powell and Shardul Thakur.

The way he set up Pant showed Mohsin's cricketing smarts as he bowled short and wide making the DC skipper desperate to reach for the deliveries.

With not much success coming his way, Pant pre-empted another short delivery which would have enabled him to play the pull-shot but to his utter dismay found one dipping into blockhole and he yorked himself.

Once Pant was out, it was left to Powell but he was also snuffed out with a short delivery which he couldn't clear ending Delhi's hopes of a win even as Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav did try their best.

Earlier, Rahul once again anchored the innings with a well-crafted 77 in company of an imperious Deepak Hooda but LSG didn't seize the initiative completely, despite managing a challenging 195 for 3.

The last five overs yielded 50 runs despite the platform set by the duo, largely due to Marcus Stoinis (17 no off 16 balls) not being able to connect the big shots.

Rahul and Hooda (52 of 34 balls) added 95 runs for the second wicket but more importantly nullified the DC spin threat, taking the duo of Kuldeep Yadav (0/29 in 3 overs), Lalit Yadav (0/16 in 1 over) and partially Axar (0/25 in 4 overs) to the task.

While Rahul, in his 51-ball knock had four fours and five sixes, Hooda had six boundaries, mostly peppering the off-side cordon and a huge six over deep mid-wicket in what was his third half-ton of the season.

While Shardul (3/40 in 4 overs) had best figures for DC, he didn't actually pose any threat to the batters and it didn't help matters that Chetan Sakariya (0/44 in 4 overs) sprayed it all over and was taken to the cleaners, especially by the LSG captain.

Rahul didn't always look smooth during the initial part when he tried to play himself in but once he was able to execute the big hits, he indeed looked a different player.

It was the fourth over from off-spinner Lalit, which opened the floodgates.

Rahul played an inside out chip over cover for a six and then lobbed one over '45' for a boundary and then Quinton de Kock smashed one through covers in an over that yielded 16 runs.

Just when it seemed De Kock was finding his feet, he played a suicidal shot. He mistimed a short and wide delivery off Shardul to give Lalit a simple catch at the extra cover.

What was exemplary on the day was Rahul and Hooda's footwork as they didn't let Kuldeep settle to a particular length.

Rahul hit an off-drive and Hooda followed it up with a cover-drive in the very first over which prompted the left-arm wrist spinner to lessen pace on his deliveries.

Listen to the latest songs, only on JioSaavn.com
Once, Hooda offered a return catch to Thakur, Rahul was at his innovative best, playing the reverse lap-scoop over short third man off Mustafizur Rahaman.

He was finally caught by Lalit at deep point as he timed his jump to perfection off a Thakur delivery.

Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw has been reprimanded and fined 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during their six-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants here on Sunday. "Mr Shaw admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction," IPL said in a statement. "For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding." Level 1 offence pertains to gestures towards umpires or opposition.

Lucknow Super Giants beat Delhi Capitals by six runs, thereby taking a giant stride towards qualifying for the IPL play-offs.

KL Rahul's 77 and Deepak Hooda's 52 helped LSG post 195/3 after opting to bat.

DC came close in their chase, thanks to Rishabh Pant's 30-ball 44, Rovman Powell's 21-ball 35 and Axar Patel's 24-ball 42, but fell short of the target by six runs.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cruised past SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 46, winning by 13 runs in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. A four-wicket haul by Mukesh Choudhary helped CSK restrict SRH to 189 for six in 20 overs, in their chase of 203 runs. Initially, CSK posted 202 for two in 20 overs with Ruturaj Gaikwad smacking 99 runs off 57 balls. Meanwhile, Devon Conway played an unbeaten knock of 85 runs off 55 balls. Also, T Natarajan bagged two wickets for SRH

Chasing a target of 153 runs, KKR reached 158 for three in 19.1 overs with Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh playing unbeaten knocks. Rana smacked 48 runs off 37 balls and Rinky hammered 42 runs off 23 deliveries as KKR ended their losing streak.

Earlier, RR posted 152 for five in 20 overs, courtesy of a half-century by captain Sanju Samson. Tim Southee was in good form for KKR and bagged two wickets in four overs.
