What's new

Hardik Pandya the new MS Dhoni?

Dhoni lost a lot of matches for India past 2011-2012. Pandya failed in every match of the world cup bar the semi final. So he is on the right path to be the next Dhoni.

Have to say, his bowling has been better recently.

Yes, agreed. He is on right path to be the next Dhoni. :inti

Another failure as a batsman.
He is probably hurt that SKY has taken all the attention.

Great start from Hardik as captain. A thumping win vs New Zealand. He has all reasons to be delighted after performing in big games in World T20 against Pakistan and England and has gotten the new era of Indian T20 cricket going good. :afridi :inti

Finally Hooda used for bowling.
Thanks Hardhik.

Another point where he shines over Rohit is the use of D Hooda. Rohit was clueless as hell using Ashwin and then picking Hooda and not bowling him.

Pandya has brought Hooda with Chahal as main spinner and look at how Hooda responded. 4 wickets for 10 runs. Rohit on other hand persisted with the economical Ashwin for no reasons.

‘I want to see more…’: Hardik Pandya's special request for India batters after 2nd T20I vs New Zealand

'Young' Team India routed hosts New Zealand by 65 runs in the second T20I on Sunday. Player of the Match Suryakumar Yadav notched up his second T20I century, toying with the Kiwi bowlers while scoring 111 runs in just 51 balls. The right-handed batter's explosive knock helped the Men in Blue post a challenging total of 191/6 in 20 overs. With required run rate 9.55 right from ball one, it was never going to be easy for the New Zealand batters. The hosts crumbled under pressure and got bowled out for 126/10 in 18.5 overs.

It was a great outing for stand-in captain Hardik Pandya, who seemed delighted after the convincing victory in the post-match presentation. The all-rounder was all praise for Suryakumar and commended the bowlers for their aggressive mindset. Pandya who didn't bowl in the match, also hinted towards Team India's strategy going forward in the series.

" I have bowled a lot, going forward I want to see more bowling options. Not always that this will work but I want more batters to chip in with the ball," he said. Talking about the upcoming T20I match, Pandya also gave insight into the selection of playing XI from the squad.

"I'd like to give everyone in the squad a chance but it's just one more game, so it's a bit tough," Pandya said. Meanwhile New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee took a hat-trick in the match as he dismissed captain Pandya, Deepak Hooda and Washington Sundar in successive balls in the 20th over of the match. It was Southee's second hat-trick in T20I cricket. Captain Kane Williamson was the highest scorer for the hosts as he hit 61 runs in 52 balls. For Team India, Deepak Hooda picked four wickets in the match. While Mohammed Siraj and Yuzvendra Chahal scalped two wickets each in a winning cause.

Star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya could become India's next captain in ODIs and T20Is, as per sources. The sources told ANI that the plan to make Pandya the next white-ball skipper has been discussed with the all-rounder. "We have this plan and we discussed it with Hardik. He has asked for some days for a response. No decision has been taken in this regard but we are currently in the thought process to give him the white-ball captaincy, let us see how things go further," a source told ANI.

Pandya led Gujarat Titans from the front in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, scoring 487 runs in 15 games at an average of 44.27 and four half-centuries. Pandya also took eight wickets throughout the tournament. In Blue colours, Pandya had his first experience as the vice-captain during the home series against South Africa that took place in June. The series had ended in a 2-2 draw after the final T20I was washed out.

He was then named as the captain of the Indian team that went to Ireland to play two T20Is. India won the series 2-0. After this, Pandya was named as the vice-captain of India's T20I series against West Indies, which India won 4-1. Pandya led the Indian squad in T20Is against New Zealand with Rishabh Pant being his deputy. India won the series 1-0. He also played a stellar role in some matches in T20 World Cup.

In 27 matches and 25 innings this year, he has scored 607 runs at an average of 33.72, with three half-centuries and the best individual score of 71*. He has also taken 20 wickets this year in the 20-over format. Also in 3 ODIs this year, he has scored 100 runs in two innings, with the best score of 71*. He has also taken six wickets in the 50-over format this year.

Star Sports deletes promo indicating Hardik Pandya as India captain for Sri Lanka T20Is after backla

The selection committee are yet to announce the squad for the limited-overs contest where India will play three T20Is and as many ODIs, but it seems Star Sports have already revealed that Hardik Pandya will be leading the Indian side.

Team India completed their final assignment for 2022 with a thrilling three-wicket win against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Sunday. It is time to look forward to 2023 where they will kick start the season with a home series against Sri Lanka. The selection committee are yet to announce the squad for the limited-overs contest where India will play three T20Is and as many ODIs, but it seems Star Sports have already revealed that Hardik Pandya will be leading the Indian side.

The outgoing selection committee, led by Chetan Sharma, have been assigned the task of picking the two white-ball sides. While they are yet to have a meeting on the two teams, keeping in mind the workload management, the recent debate on having specialists for each format and the injury concerns, Star Sports might just have leaked the information on who would lead the Indian side.

On Sunday evening, hours after the end of the Bangladesh Test match in Mirpur, Star Sports released a video on Twitter with the caption mentioning, “Hardik 'Raj'”. At the end of the video, the even showed the poster for the series which had Dasun Shanka, Sri Lanka captain, on one side and Hardik on the other.

".@hardikpandya7 is ready to kick-start the New Year with a bang against the Asian T20I Champions! #BelieveInBlue & get ready to witness some action from this new #TeamIndia under the Hardik 'Raj' Mastercard #INDvSL series | Starts Jan 3 | Star Sports & Disney+Hotstar," the caption read. They later deleted the tweet. Here is the video of the promo…

This implies that Rohit Sharma won't be able to make the T20I series, missing a second consecutive contest with his thumb injury. He had incurred the injury during the ODIs in Bangladesh and hence was ruled out of the two Tests.

Earlier on Saturday, PTI had reported that KL Rahul is likely to face the axe for the T20I series against Sri Lanka while players like Virat Kohli would be rest for the series to make way for specialist players.

The T20I series would begin from January 3 while the ODIs would start from January 12.

This guy is great asset to Indian team .Bowling, Batting,Feilding and Good captain.Best LOI allrounder going around

So cool in crisis situations and now found a good partner in Ishan - Pandya doing his normal against Pakistan.

Pandya is a quality LOI player.

Now, India need to solve 1,2,3, 4,5 and 7.

Did you miss that 3 smashing boundary in Rauf's over??

Don’t think you can smash it when running it down to 3rd man.

Be honest, had Babar kept on the pacers Pandya wouldn’t have gone past 20.

Pandya’s biggest strength is playing against spin, and we played into his hands. “Smashing” 3 boundaries of Rauf is nothing special lol

What stood out in Pandya’s innings was his ability to rotate the strike and maintain composure under pressure. Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden praised Pandya for his knock, highlighting his role in keeping Kishan comfortable at the other end.

“He (Hardik Pandya) should’ve scored 120. He knew he had Ishan Kishan at the other end. But he played really well. He did exactly what India needed in that situation, soaked in the pressure. He was able to manipulate the strike, he was able to manoeuvre the spinners. He made sure Ishan Kishan was at ease at the other end. In my opinion, it was a captain’s knock. Rohit Sharma couldn’t, but Hardik Pandya did,” said Hayden during the mid-innings show on Star Sports.

Really! U r comparing dhoni with hardik.. he has gr8 achievements.. long way to go for hardik.

Pandya isn't the new Dhoni.

Difference between Pakistan and India is that we pakistani's are trying to associate our current players with the brands of the past, like saying fakhar can be saeed Anwar, Shaheen can be waseem akram etc.

Indians create their own brands. Sachin is Sachin, Dhoni is Dhoni, Virat kohli is virat kohli and pandya is pandya

In terms of making an impact on the game, YES but not when it comes to captaincy.

A video surfaced on social media in which Hardik Pandya could be seen complaining about the food that he was served during the IPL 2024 shoot and he asked for his chef and nutritionist then. This is funny. It could just be a staged video as well. Who knows.

Hardik Pandya Not Happy In 'Leaked' IPL 2024 Shoot Video. Here Is The Reason

A leaked video from an IPL 2024 shoot featuring newly-appointed Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya has gone viral on social media.

A leaked video from an IPL 2024 shoot featuring newly-appointed Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya has gone viral on social media. In the video, Hardik could be seen complaining about the food that he was served during the shoot and he asked for his chef and nutritionist. He was served dhokla and jalebi for lunch but the India all-rounder was very clear that they were not good for his fitness and although a person tried to convince him, he was adamant that he will take be eating the food that he was served. The video has split the internet as some fans praised his dedication to fitness while there were several fans who dismissed the video as a PR stunt ahead of the competition.

Meanwhile, former India wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel said Hardik Pandya will be under tremendous pressure while leading Mumbai Indians in the upcoming IPL but termed his appointment as captain "a well thought-out decision" by the franchise.

Pandya's appointment as MI's new captain marked the end of Rohit Sharma's legendary reign.

"Of course, his (Pandya's) captaincy is a talking point. The way he led the side (Gujarat Titans), winning the championship in the first year, a last-ball finish in the final next year, it was a great run at Gujarat Titans," Parthiv told JioCinema.

"Hardik has moved on, is now back in Mumbai, where his cricket started. There will be a lot of expectations from MI because the trophy is long due.

"For MI, qualifying is not a success; it's about winning championships. That's something they must have thought, and it seems like a well-thought decision to get him on board, looking at the future."

Hardik Pandya's "Returned Home" Remark On MI Switch Potential Trigger For GT Fans

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya is set to lead the franchise he first started his career within the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. His decision to leave Gujarat Titans to join the Mumbai-based franchises has been among the most talked-about in the sport, especially after the team management decided to name him the skipper, removing Rohit Sharma from the helm. Though there remains quite some chatter on the topic, Hardik is delighted to have returned home after 2 years.

Reflecting on his journey as a cricketer, Hardik said in a chat on Star Sports, "I'm deeply thankful for the immense love and support from fans. It's a blessing beyond words," he shared. "Returning to Mumbai Indians feels like coming back to where it all began. From my journey as a young lad in Baroda to Mumbai, this city has taught me growth, instilling in me humility and resilience. The city's love and teachings are invaluable to me, shaping me into the cricketer I am today. Mumbai always challenges you to be better and now with the IPL, I have returned home after 2 years.”

Mumbai Indians' fans have been vocal in expressing their displeasure to see Hardik replacing Rohit as skipper. But, the all-rounder wants the fans behind him and the team as they look to emerge triumphant in the IPL 2024 season.
"I seek the same backing from our fans to propel us towards victory," he urged. "Rest assured, I'll ensure a thrilling season that every supporter will relish. It's a journey we'll all enjoy together."

Hardik also recalled the 2015 IPL season, his first inteh T20 league, highlighting how it proved to be life-changing for him.

"Coming from Baroda, it was a life-changing experience for me when I remember 2015's IPL. That year was pivotal in my career. Representing Mumbai Indians amidst seasoned players was a turning point for me. When you get a chance to play with such established players on such a big platform, your life changes. I was fortunate enough that I was able to contribute on a much larger scale to the knockout games. Bagging two 'Man of the Match' awards during crucial knockout games was surreal. It marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey for me, it's a chapter I'll always cherish.”

Hardik always tries to look cool like MS by giving blank expressions in stiff situations but actually he is not anywhere near to him.

Dhoni is mobbed and loved everywhere he goes. Pandya is ridiculed most of the places he goes. That tells you everything.

Pandya's arrogance is going to cost him someday. His funny and comedic behavior is not taking him anywhere on the top.
