REPORTS:

As per reports former discarded chief selector Haroon Rasheed is all set to be made the Director Cricket Operations Of PCB.

As per the reports Shahryar Khan, Najam Sethi and BOG have cleared his name and the former chief selector who was thrown out after last year's dismal showing in Asia Cup and World Cup by the team.

Some of the newspapers have also reported this in today's edition.

Well if this is really gonna happen that KHUDA HAFIZ PCB. Ridiculous this, how can such a flop selector can be made Director Cricket Operations?

PCB logic - failing repeatedly in your previous jobs simply means you're still available to take up more jobs.

It seems impossible for the likes of Intikhab Alam, Wasim Bari and Haroon Rashid to ever be fired.

Making misbah as Sherry earlier had said, would hav been good and was understandable but this is ridiculous. ........

Haroon Rashid had an "INTERVIEW" with Chairman Shaheryar khan, Chief Executive officer Subhan Ahmed and Director HR Brigadier Sajid Hameed. They were impressed with Haroon Rashid and cleared his name for the post of director... There was a race for the post of director bw Iqbal qasim and Haroon Rashid and Harry uncle was able to impress the board. Iqbal Qasim will be supervising the High performance academy in karachi but for that iqbal has to write a new application.

So a race between 2 guys that offer less than little.

Does "Superman Haroon" has any reputation in international circle will he be able to land a bilateral tour in SA/AU's/Eng answer is no as we are touring Eng next time for only 2 tests and SA is in 2019 after 6 yr gap

Making Misbah the Director would have sensible move but as per Justice Cooke "Clowns work in PCB"

It's fine - one year pension. Misbah will play one more PSL & he'll take charge from next May- June. Also, at current setup I don't think Director Cricket has any role but to shake head in positive note to whatever SK/NS says - Haroon is very good at that yes man role.

and so is misbah..yess man>>

But, Misbah can find a balance between being yes man & doing some positive things. This guy is yes man with zero competence. I'll tell you a story sometimes later....

^^ long back, in 1998, PAK made the Final of Independence Cup in Bangladesh against IND & it was a best of 3 match Final - both team won one each before the decider. That winter, it was unique weather for Dhaka for a week - temperature in single digit, almost whole day in mist & a sort of slight drizzle dripping whole week. Now, PAK was put in under such condition & Saeed/Ijaz took PAK to 314 or so in 48 overs. It was a day match, but due to weather, they decided to use lights if required. Sheikh Hasina was at the ground for almost entire match & everyone knew that organizers will try to continue the match as long as possible for a direct result.

IND started chasing, till 47th over, they were behind the rate, in case of a premature end of the match. From around 25th over, it started to drizzle, very mild & steady - just not enough to stop the match, but it was indeed hampering the fielding side. So, umpires had a chat in between & they had a chat at middle of the wicket with Match Referee as well. I was at VIP pavilion & I knew that the match won't be halted, because once they leave the field, no way this match can restart.

There was BIG movements around Indian dressing room - Gawkewad was Coach, probably Madan Mal (?) or Shukla or someone else was Manager, Azhar was Captain & almost everyone got busy - they had chats with Match referee, BCB officials, 3rd Umpire & even the journalist, because they knew if the match is called off, India is losing. And, everyone in that Ground, apart from PAK team knew that Sheikh Hasina won't like to award PAK Captain the Independence Cup, therefore the match won't be called off unless it's impossible to continue ..........

In that whole period, this idiot Haroon Rashid, the then PAK Manager/Coach kept himself busy in gossiping, laughing, joking with his players & he was expecting that the rain will get heavy & he didn't move from his seat for a moment (I know, because next day he said exactly this - we didn't expect the match to go full distance as the rain was expected to get heavier) & PAK will win the title on DWL. IND kept their nose just in the game till 46th over, when Saqui went for 15 or so & the DWL tilted to India's favor for the 1st time - eventually IND won it on penultimate ball, taking 10 in last 5 balls with 6 wickets down.

The next day, PAK Manager, in his press briefing said some of the dumbest words I have heard in my life time - we didn't expect the match to continue as the rain was getting heavier; Saqline went for plenty because how can a spinner bowl in wet condition? The match shouldn't have gone such which cost us because we kept Saqline for last overs & he had to bowl with wet ball; no body told us that the match will continue till result - it was unfair to PAK team; the light wasn't good enough for playing & it hampered our fielding ......... eventually, ..... I don't think PAK would have been a popular winner .....

It doesn't matter if Hasina is anti Pakistani or not, for one to be smarter - and I do expect, people like Misbah to understand that, instead of these half literates.

It is the season for comebacks: Shehzad, Akmal, hafeez, Malik
Haroon is just a continuation of the trend

In most walks of life, you can't find a role within the same organization after getting fired/sacked . . Let alone keep finding roles after getting fired/removed/sacked multiple times . .

Makes you wonder . .

Yet some will sing Sethi's praises.

The thread on how Pakistan cricketers last longer should include these administrators as well, remarkable!

then what about MUDASSAR NAZAR wasnt he the Director of Cricket for PCB... also what about the rumours that giving it to MISBAH ul haq...

PCB and all these kaali bhairain ('Black Sheep') like Haroon Rashid, Iqbal Qasim, etc. should all be awarded a phainty of 1000 chappals each on live T.V...then let go of their posts. Then new non-politically appointed candidates should be interviewed by PP members and sworn in. Only then we can see an end to all this!

Just imagine Imran Farhat and Faithal Iqbal could be soon eligible for such posts, oh the horror :-(

So I get fired from a junior level position for lack of performance and get hired as a Director in the same organization. Only at PCB.

Thank you corrupt Sethi and Sheri uncle.

:salute

Jobs for the boys.

The same names getting different jobs. Recycling of this dead woodand finding roles for them to keep them happy.

You scratch my back and I will scratch yours.

Ridiculous from te PCB.

Omg you broke my bubble, have considered it as the greatest chase by an Indian team against top opposition, quick 41 by Sachin followed by sensible innings from Dada and Robin and some heroic runs by Kanitkar.

Yeah the most tense game i've ever witnessed and i was only 7 years old at the time. Sachin blasting 41, ganguly ton, Mongia running hard two's and Kanitkar's last ball 4. This post has pretty much ruined my childhood. :))

I was 9 damnit, that was a start to a wonderful year 1998, also had Sharjah victory and Sachin's chennai knock.

Still a great chase, which I think was the World Record that time - probably only 2nd time 300+ chased. However, PAK attack was as poor as it can be in 90s - Aquib, Mahmood opening & other bowlers were Saqline, Md. Hussain, Afridi & Manzoor Akhter. More or less, apart from Saq, PAK's 1st choice attack of Wasim, Waquar, Mushtaq was missing - that was Jan 1998, so Shoaib, Zahid, Shahid Nazir & Md. Akram also comes in the list above Aquib - rest are just not International standard.

just remember the wording from my brother that aqib ruined the game by giving 4....he was listening to radio commentry..i was 8 years old and heavy snowfall occurred in my village so it was chilly winter..

'Someone' should tweet a few choice points from this thread to PCB and ask which 'Geedar Singhi' has Haroon Rashid the Magician suddenly discovered that after being sacked from a lower position (in the same department), he has suddenly been rehired and made the top boss there?:irfan

I think Ata ur Rehman played this match and yes it was the World Record chase at that time. But it didn't last long as Australia chased down a slightly bigger total against PAK in late 1998.

Edit: My bad he didn't.

Yes :) - that's why I said it's the worst attack for PAK in 90s.

In that missing list, now you have to add Ata as well - in 1997-98, he was easily better than 33 years old Aquib, in fact Kabir Khan was better, but never trusted. Add to that, Captain dynamic Rashid Latif, who didn't give a single over to Amir Sohail from his personal grudge, when even crowd was shouting - bring Amir, why not Sohail.....

But, no credit taken away from Ganguly & Sing, who chased down a mammoth target clinically. Those days, a target of around 300 was simply mind demoralizing, add to that in 48 overs & the added pressure of a Final.

Haroon is company man and off course he got the gig. Can't bring in an outsider who won't follow orders and try to make things happen. No best man for the job in PCB, only trusted soldiers who will readily stand and take the bullet when it comes time to sacrifice.

Haroon Rasheed appointed as PCB Director Cricket Operations a year after being sacked

Exactly a year after forcing him to step down as chief selector, the Pakistan Cricket Board has brought back former Test batsman, Haroon Rasheed in a more powerful position in the PCB.

The PCB has announced the appointment of Haroon as Director Cricket Operations and will be reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, Subhan Ahmad.

The board said in a statement that Haroon has been picked for the post after the PCB interviewed a total of three candidates including former Test spinner, Iqbal Qasim and Haroon met all the required credentials for the job.

Ironically soon after Pakistan were eliminated early in the World T20 last April in India, a fact-finding committee formed by the PCB recommended the sacking of the entire selection committee which was headed by Haroon Rasheed.

Even otherwise Haroon, who has also remained chief coach and manager of the Pakistan senior and junior teams besides serving as Director game development in the board, has been either removed or forced to step down in different capacities.

“It is clear that the decision to bring back Haroon has the full backing of Najam Sethi who is tipped to take over as Chairman of the board from Shaharyar Khan in a few week time,” a reliable source in the board told PTI.

He said the only reason Haroon’s appointment as Director Cricket Operations was delayed since last year was due to the resistance put up by Shaharyar who didn’t want him back in any position.

But soon after the PCB confirmed Haroon’s appointment this week, Shaharyar also changed his tune and insisted Haroon’s poor show as chief selector didn’t have any bearing to his new assignment.

“That was a different job and we went for changes after the World Cup based on recommendations of the fact-finding committee but this job is different and Haroon has the experience and credentials to do it successfully,” Khan said.

It is no secret that with Shaharyar on his way out after completing three years in the board, Sethi, who heads the executive committee, is now increasingly calling the shots on cricket affairs.

A few days news was circulating that Misbah would be made the Director!!!

I hope not, we are already having a difficult time to recover from Misbah era, the most negative and defensive era in recent times.

There goes the only sport that Pakistan would compete at internationally...

RIP Pakistan Cricket: You gave me numerous memories for all the 17 years I've followed this with Passion and heart
Thank You !!
