What's new

Has Anderson-Tendulkar 2025 series been the 2nd greatest five-Test match series in the modern era after Ashes 2005?

I think Australia has trouble finding replacements. They recently tried Mcsweeney , Konstas. Both look miserable. THey even tried Smith as opener. That experiment failed. Now they are trying Cam Green at 3 in place of Labu. Talent is not coming through. There is no way in hell a guy like Khawaja should still beplaying
yeah Khawaja is well past his sell by date, only playing because of lack of options after retirement of Warner. Him constantly poking outside off & getting out to Bumrah in BGT & WI seamers means he is done for.

Labu should be tried as an opener, he is only 30 & has experience of playing at #3.

There are some mature top order batting options in the Shield that have put together a good body of work but for some reason, our selectors have been hesitant in selecting them. Perhaps, this will change with the upcoming Ashes series.

Though, we would still need an experienced option (preferably Marnus over Khawaja) in the top 3.

Before sweepy even started watching cricket :cobra

Australia isnt suffering from a talent crises. This propaganda is once again being peddled around by Indians.

The likes of green, Owen, And many others are gun talents. The issue is replacing the likes of Warner was always going to be an uphill battle as its never easy to replace an ATG.

India themsleves have not found any replacement for shami and its showing since they have to rely on bumrah or siraj one hit wonders in the day he shows up.

The likes of krishna and kamboj are a comedy and a tragedy. Eventually they will struggle to find one for bumrah. They will probably find a good bowler but not bumrah level.

Similarly they wont be finding a new kohlj anytime soon even if Gill becomes a fantastic odi batter.

Currently the likes of Cambell Kellaway, Renshaw and a few others are lined up but its not easy replacing Warner, and it wont be easy to replace Smith in the future.

Yes their biggest issue is them making some brain dead selections such as konstas, Mcgruk, and continuing with khawaja when you already had Green, Owen, Kellaway and Renshaw already lined up and rearing to go. Bancroft as well.

And before indian people make fun of me because ik they will stoop lower and lower and say Owen in test 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

You can expect anything from such clowns, im speaking in the context of replacing Warner as an all format batsmen not just test.

I haven't even once posted Australia doesn't have talent.

McSweeney looks proper opener, he struggled against Bumrah & dumped. But he looks better than Konstas.

Owen is certainly replacing Maxwell in white ball teams.

Speaking about India, Arshdeep & Kuldeep would have a big difference here as well as in Australia but our coach thought otherwise. As long as IPL FTB's like Sudarshan are selected over likes of Ranji stalwarts Easwaran, Shreyas, Sarfaraz we will keep struggling with our batting overseas.

Our Kolkata brother has BD test series among the top 15:

The 15 greatest Test series of the 21st century: Where does the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy rank?

5. England (2) v India (2), 2025

The series that triggered this list does have its rightful place in the top five – but only just, as cricket, like every other sport, keeps getting more competitive over time. India collapsed twice and dropped a plethora of catches at Headingley to throw away a Test they should have won, but came back strongly despite Jasprit Bumrah’s absence to level the series at Edgbaston. Then, chasing 193 in the low-scoring third Test at Lord’s, India recovered from 82-7 but fell 22 runs short to produce the first close contest of the tour.

At Old Trafford, England amassed a 311-run lead and India became 0-2 five balls into the innings, but once their batters dug deep, it became evident that the wicket had lost its sting, and the Test fizzled out to a draw. The perfect finale came at The Oval, a Test that kept swinging over the course of the four innings. From 83-2, India slipped to 153-6 before going to 218-6 and then collapsing to 224. Then, from 92-0, England were bowled out for 247. India reached 177-2 in the third innings, but all they could manage from there was 396. Chasing 374, England recovered from 106-3 to 301-3 and even 332-4... before Mohammed Siraj (5-104) and Prasidh Krishna (4-126) shot them out for 367.

Aus vs SA 2008/09 was pretty special too. Must be in top 5/top 6.

My top 5-6 test series of this millennium(in no particular order):-

2001 India vs Australia
2005 Ashes
2008 Australia vs South Africa
2019 Ashes
2020 Australia vs India
2025 England vs India

Quality of cricket : mediocre ( too much batting friendly pitches )

Thrill & Drama : Box office ( 3rd best after that 2005 Ashes & 2020-21 BGT )

Was watching back the replay and noticed something you gotta give the English credit for. Soon after the final wicket, DK dragged Siraj for an interview with Sky. Stokes and some of his boys were waiting to congratulate Siraj and they waited until the interview was done, then for Gambhir and staff to finish their hugs and individually congratulated Siraj on his performance.
Always nice when the human element is acknowledged and higlighted, becoz we can always discuss and see the skills and talent on display - its the intangible 'human element' that a lot of times goes missing in all the hype.

Kudos to you to bring that out and mention this.

similarly, KL Rahul patted Woakes on his back when he walked out one hand in sling to bat, and just about all indian fielders clapped his entry after the final wicket was taken, every indian fielder as well as the non playing ones, the coaching staff management went up to him, as a man, hugged and congratulated CW on such a brave feat - my bro was in the crowd at The Oval and he recorded this.
When Siraj was bowled off a perfectly forward defensive in the 3rd test, after their celebratory run - most of the english players were sincere in their commiserations to acknowledge the warrior spirit like performance by Siraj and Rav jadz...
The teams might have sledged each other through out the series to kingdom come, but in terms of mutual respect there was no scarcity....which is again one of the main reasons why this series is so iconic....We saw the skills on display, we also saw admiration....
in spades.... :ua
