Has the India-Pakistan rivalry become overhyped?

Is the India vs Pakistan rivalry still the biggest spectacle in cricket, or has it lost its edge?

There is no rivalry anymore. BCCI and ICC should demand that the PCB and the Pakistani Team improve its rankings in all formats ie atleast number 4-5 in order to merit a game with India in a ICC tournament or even Asia Cup.

Maybe also time for the ICC to link the annual shares to cricketing performances. Can't think of any other way for the PCB and Pakistani players to be put under stress to uplift their performances. The Honor system is not applicable to Pakistani Cricketers.

Too many One-sided matches have impacted the charm. Even the 2 of the biggest Pak over Ind wins in last decade was one sided contest.

I hope ICC does not put us in same group again

This rivalry is dead now

There are just 2 groups in ODI WC. India and Pakistan ll be in the same group.
Yeah just saw broadcaster deal which runs till 2027 CWC so another humiliation waiting for us in Johannesburg or centurion

Indian fans, this one’s for you.

We may have our differences. But days like today remind me of something important. Despite everything Pakistan has done over the years to support and uplift Bangladesh cricket, seeing their players run us out in such a disrespectful and dishonourable manner brings a certain clarity. It makes me reflect on how, perhaps, we Pakistanis have sometimes taken you Indians for granted, and at times even directed needless hostility your way.

You may carry your grievances against us. You may not always look upon us kindly. But on the cricket field, your team has consistently shown itself to be a professional and honourable unit. Playing against India has always carried a certain standard, a certain dignity, and for that it has been a genuine pleasure for us Pakistanis.

Take a bow, Indians.

Love from Pakistan… and Iran 🇵🇰 🇮🇷

And we can't forget how good a relationship we had with indian players in the past it's just now politics came into play before that players never did any rubbish stuff in field.

Speaking as an Indian, I didn’t see that incident as clever cricket. I saw it as poor sportsmanship.

Bangladesh often seem to reserve this kind of attitude for teams they believe are vulnerable. That’s why this feels less like confidence and more like opportunism. Pakistan also have to take some responsibility here. Their recent performances have hurt the respect they once commanded, and moments like this are a consequence of that decline.

I genuinely feel bad for Salman Ali Agha, because he comes across as one of the most likeable and grounded people in Pakistan cricket. He has always seemed mature in the way he speaks, carries himself, and represents his team. Seeing a player like him end up on the wrong side of something like this is disappointing.

What stands out to me is the contrast with India’s approach. India usually trust their strengths, their planning, and their quality on the field. They do not need to depend on controversial or cheap moments to make an impact. Whether the opposition is Pakistan, Australia, or England, India’s mindset is generally built around strong cricket, not desperate tactics.

That is why Bangladesh’s actions don’t deserve praise from my point of view. And Pakistan, unfortunately, have reached a stage where teams no longer treat them with the same caution or regard. That is the bigger embarrassment here.

Until the next game when they Mankad us, or we them.

North India is very much alike punjab, sindh regions of pak. Lot of common culture, race, caste, food and nature.
Even iran is pretty close to India in terms of trade, culture.

Bangladesh is the forgotten middle child in a house everyone respects the eldest sibling and loves the youngest. This over the years turned them into bitter folks as they internalised it because of not being physically powerful to externalise it. This made them sad.

Bangladesh is a malnourished sports nation. Even their national sportspersons are weak like rickshaw pullers.
As Varun mentioned many times, they aren't made for sports. :uak

What stands out to me is also the lack of awareness of your overall relations with the opponent.

In the World Cup final, we saw how Sky immediately apologised to Daryl Mitchel after Arshdeep wrongfully threw the ball at him making him both disappointed and sad that a bowler from a friendly cricket board has done it to him. Indian captain Sky ensured that Daryl’s heart was not broken that day not out of defeat but from betrayal of friendship. Later Arshdeep also apologised. That’s respect for the overall relations that two cricket boards and their players share. India and NZ share deep camaraderie. If this was an Aussie they wouldn’t have cared.

Bangladeshi players should have shown same level of awareness that 1) they were playing against a fellow Muslim nation 2) Pakistan have been the only board that stood with them recently and were in the verge of boycotting the tournament had President of Sri Lanka himself not personally requested Pakistan to come fearing huge losses. Keeping all of that in mind, it was an extremely poor act.

Frankly I’m surprised there’s been no effort from Bangladesh cricket or their fans to condemn this and no apology has been offered yet.

Is this what you call friendship or Muslim brotherhood?

I think Bangladesh have done this intentionally. They may have gained a geopolitical sweetheart in Pakistan, but deep inside they realise that Bharat has always been her first love. I call this a sacrifice born out of the deepest love.

I think the biggest realisation is that you're mentally unstable.
Get some help

Terrible comparison

Rickshaw pullers are physically very strong and durable.

None of our players would last a day being a rickshaw puller.

But I agree as a Pakistani, our Muslim brothers of Bangladesh are physically a bit weak on average

you can look malnutrioned and still pack a punch. Azhar, Srinath, Kaif, all looked like they have not eaten for days, but still had the ability to change matches against best of teams. BD has been playing international cricket for four decades now. But their achievements, attitude, arrogance, leaves a bitter taste in mouth. I wish all the worst for that team, although they don't need it. they are doing fine on their own dragging their sorry a**es down the drain
