Hashim Amla has hit 50 runs off Lasith Malinga today. Only Kohli has made more against a single bowler in a single IPL game - v Umesh Yadav in 2013

From CI.

51 of 16 balls he faced against Malinga

Malinga should look to retire. His time is done in international cricket. Lost all his pace and his fitness is worse than PP's Golden boy.

This guy somehow manages to hide in ICC events. Arguably, the best ODI opener when stakes are low ..............:(

Not a good for Mamoon :67:... He wanted Amla to be dropped from Champions Trophy .

Didn't see any of the match on tv but looking at the scorecard Amla was playing against a decent attack today - McClenaghan, Bhajji, Bumrah, Malinga and Pandya.

This pitch is a joke. Just started watching the match and a simple touch from the bat with a fast bowler bowling goes miles.

Bilal7 was right that Amla can play at fast strike rate.

One knock in the IPL is how we are going to judge him now?

Still has acceleration issues. He's a good odi opener and does a good job for South Africa though.

Its a patta of epic proportions.

Just look at the S/R of MI batsmen. Everyone outbatted Amla's efforts.

I think what made Amla's innings a great one is that he showed us that you can score a 100 in T20 playing authentic cricket shots.

He did not play the 'Dishan scoop', 'reverse sweep' , 'switch hit' or any other unconventional shot

Amla only dominated Malinga who was bowling trash at him. Waist high fulltosses and short and wide.

Against other bowlers, he was decent. nothing special.

It was a very good innings. But I would not read much into it. It was a 230-240 wicket easily. But Amla and Co played too slowly. Anything under 200 S/R on this pitch is a bad effort.

Agreed that Malinga was not at his best but bad balls still have to be put away

its not just one match. trend is there. he's one of the best t20 opener. last two WT20 he played well. he got couple of 90s in T20I. got a 90s in IPL last season. was the leading run scorer (?) in last Caribbean Premier League. So its just not one.

And this is why his test form declined. now he try to chase every ball in test matches and that became his downfall. I mean not leaving much balls he used to. too much shuffling in test matches.

It was pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain and decent cricket watching experience. The guy has a SR of 90 in ODIs for a reason and has consistently been explosive in the powerplays. He is a great opener though which is why he knows when to take it down a gear and milk the bowlers.

Amla has owned Malinga every time they have faces off against each other. I remember the ODI series a few years back when South Africa were struggling in Sri Lanka for the first couple of ODIs and then Amla joined the squad and showed the others how to bat.

We were told that IPL performances don't mean anything. Nonetheless, watch him fail in the Champions Trophy. He is the biggest choker in Limited Overs history and there is no doubt over his inability to seize the big moments.

South Africa will never win any silverware with folks like him and de Villiers in the team. Certified mental midgets under pressure.

de Villiers is at least rung or two above Amla in limited overs.

In test it would be close but would go with Amla out of personal preference.

What was Malinga doing?

Not doing anything other than walk into a game, bowl 24 balls and go stuff himself. He is very fat i don't know he is still bowling at 137 with that body. Im sure going on diet won't impact his knees. Credit should also be given to Amla. he batted well.

Amla failing in the Champions Trophy is as predictable as Hafeez and Junaid failing and SA not winning the trophy.

A batman with great basics will always do well all formats. We're lucky to watch him bat live. Easily the best batsman of this generation. Better than all pretenders.

De Villiers has already performed in world cup knockout, he cannot be called a choker.

Saw an article with tweets from cricketers on Amla's recent century.
Wow!! This guy is probably the most likeable guy in cricket now. So much respect from his peers.
A really really nice guy.

He is much better than Amla under pressure, but he also lacks the steel to prevail in big moments. He will put SA in a winning position but will find a way to get out before delivering the decisive blow. It is not a coincidence that has not won SA a single knockout match in any ICC tournament with his batting. During his career, SA have won only one knockout match (2015 WC QF) and that was down to the bowlers.

The fact that Amla and de Villiers have contributed to zero victories in all the knockout matches they have played in their careers (WC, CT, WT20) says everything about their inability to handle pressure.
