He does.
Supremely talented and a true professional.
I think overrating him at that time was understandable because Amla didn't have so many worldcup failures under his belt plus people gave him benefit out of doubt. It was hard to understand why he couldn't replicate his bilateral performances in Worldcups. But I guess some people doesn't have in them to perform at bigger stages and he is not alone. We have quite a few nowadays which includes Williamson as well. He is going down the and lane as well and probably is worse. Kohli hasn't shown his skills in ODI Worldcups as well as of yet.Well, there used to be a time when many PPers used to vastly overrate Amla in limited overs. He was never even close to the best batsman in his entire career, but pushing him in that league is getting reactions in threads like this.
Amla is not AB or Kohli, but he is still a very good limited over batsman. Sure, he goes mostly missing in big games in global tournaments, but he doesn't deserve this kind of bashing.
It's fault of some PPers to be honest.

Said above this Amla bashing is very uncalled for. He was not the most talented batsman and had many technical flaws but he has achieved so much thus far especially in test cricket with great work ethics and dedication. This is something worth praising not bashing. And on the top of that he has been a very noncontroversial figure. I as a cricket lover have great admiration for him.
Great pressure player. In a big match, you can always be sure that he will come good, big occasions bring the best out of him.
For me, his 123 vs Australia in the 2011 World Cup and the 117 vs NZ in the 2015 World Cup semifinal stand out as his best pressure innings, but it's a difficult choice because he has played so many great innings across the World Cups, World T20s and Champions Trophies.
His record against non-associate teams in ICC tournaments says everything that needs to be said about this legendary batsman.
No batsman can absorb pressure like he does. Nerves of steel indeed.
Amla is not that legendary in tests either.Just a South African great.
In a tougher era, Ponting, SRT,Dravid and Kallis used to avg 58-59 after 100 tests.Amla will end with an avg of 47-49 in tests. In LOIs he is inferior to Gambhir and Anwar so all in all he is just a good player.Overall I rate him slightly below Dean Jones.

Amla us overrated in ODIs but phenomenal in tests. Better than AB easily in the longer format.
Amla is a good batsmen.
Shade below Root and Kohli in ODI cricket.
Very good test batsmen, who will probably end up ATG test bat.
Is usually bashed because supporters think he is MUCH MORE than he actually is.
That's the exact reason, Afridi is bashed.
What I learned today:
Amla is a better batsman than Gavaskar and Miandad.

Better than any Pakistan batsman and inferior to Tendulkar only? Just when you think you have heard of all.
Miandad over him any day. Also, Inzamam was better in ODIs.
Gavaskar was comfortably better and Kohli will go down as the better batsman as well.
He is perhaps on par with Dravid in Tests.

Today's innings was right up there as well. Yet another reminder of his ability to absorb pressure like no one else can.
His fantastic performances in ICC tournaments continue.
No batsman has dominated the World Cup, the Champions Trophy and the WT20 like Amla.

Lol the funny side of Mamoon.
)
I hope he scores against us but we win the match...
The lure of IPL ruined another great cricketer .. many more to follow.
27 ODI hundreds are way too many for someone who probably hasn't hit a single non minnow WC hundred.27 ODI hundreds and yet he won't find a place in an all time South African ODI XI
The legend grows.
Yet another stellar innings under pressure. Rarely has a batsman displayed such class and domination to put his side in the driving seat in a must-win match.
55 off 83 balls @ SR of 66.26

Another big match, another pressure situation, another masterclass for the ages.
Your reason for hating him is not rooted in cricket. Sad.
The reason he has received so much appreciation over the years from some posters here wasn’t related to his cricket either. He is a complete typical South African chocker.
Mamoon hates amla bcoz bilal7 likes him..
He may not be a pressure player but stil a better odi batsman than any pakistani player ever except abbas.
In Odis I would any day have inzi over amlaMiandad was better in WCs.

His failure during this world cup is because of his age, not because he choked. He's been on the decline since 2015-16 and even though he's been good enough to be a regular in this South African side, his days of being an elite batsman are over. Not sure what the point is in reviving a thread that was made when Amla was on the top and the best batsman in the world across formats. No one stays on the top forever and unless you retire on top - which is usually a selfish decision - a bunch of nobodies who've made their names by being your haters will have a field-day sooner or later.
From 2010-2015, he bossed world cricket on all pitches, against all oppositions and established himself as one of the great batsmen, while also playing the game in the best of spirits. That is what most of the cricketing world will remember him for and he's broken enough world records and reached enough milestones to ensure that his name keeps getting mentioned long after his retirement.
That's a Great companyTrue, his peak was'nt long enough but he had no weakness,he mastered spin, swing, bounce etc etc.
Last three years can't be ignored he will retire on par with batsmen like INZI,Sehwag, kevin pietersen, hayden.
