While everyone this day talks about the ABDVs, Steve Smiths, the Roots, the KWs, one tends to ignore the contribution and current numero uno batsman in the world.

How much South AFRICA depends on this run machine, and how supremely consistent he has been across all formats of the game, is something truly unique to this genius.

For someone who is a classical batsman, the way he has adopted to the T20 format is amazing and he surpasses every other batsman in this format.

His performance in today's game against Sri Lanka has been truly exemplary about how to chase down without any risks but getting optimum result. Though a dead rubber, this innings goes as one of the greatest innings in this tournament.

Hats off to this genius. True class.

Hats off.

Meaningless runs in a meaningless match for a meaningless cause against a meaningless team.

A statistical legend indeed.

In every BIG game, BIG tourney match..
he disappears.
i remember how he choked in the must win game last WC in 2015
people, including commies thought oh no...HERE COMES AMLA...

Useless run getter really
all stats no gats

Hats off to Amla. The greatest T20 batsman ever. What a performance!

The way he handled the dangerous Lakmal and Shanaka was a sight to watch!

Great knock today..Single- handedly chased down the target. Most importantly remained not out till the last..Hats off to the legend..!!!

Mark Waugh said last week if you give me 1 piece of wood and a Hashim Amla I can win the world cup.

.

Last para says it all... WOW.. Greatest knock of the tournament.

And he does this effortlessly without breaking a sweat, and stays away from the accolades.

Great pressure player. In a big match, you can always be sure that he will come good, big occasions bring the best out of him.

For me, his 123 vs Australia in the 2011 World Cup and the 117 vs NZ in the 2015 World Cup semifinal stand out as his best pressure innings, but it's a difficult choice because he has played so many great innings across the World Cups, World T20s and Champions Trophies.

His record against non-associate teams in ICC tournaments says everything that needs to be said about this legendary batsman.

No batsman can absorb pressure like he does. Nerves of steel indeed.

He reminds me of Sachin in the sense - probably one of the best Test bats, super consistent since the last 5-8 years, keep scoring runs.

But as the time passes by, people forget your past performances and the contributions you've been making for your team since many years.

He'll be attacked because he's not as good as Kohli in LOIs - which is absolutely true. NO one is better than Kohli in LOIs, he's a freak and a better player than Sachin in many regards when it comes to LOIs.

But respect him for his contributions in Tests. Amla and Sachin are run-scoring machines, yes, they have no swagger and impact like Kohli has (in LOIs). But that shouldn't be a cause for disrespect.

I am so confused right now.... This thread is so confusing..... Are we bashing Amla here or singing his praises ????? Why is Mamoon saying such good things about him...

AM I ON PAKPASSION ????

Its sarcasm since those innings never happened

His consistency for about a decade stands out. He has added ruthlessness to it specifically in limited overs format. A Ponting and Dravid bundled in a package.

How could I forget his 107 vs Pakistan in the 2015 World Cup, setting his team up for a comfortable 76 run victory.

Read his post again lol.

Troll thread it seems:amla

Lol I'm pretty sure this is a troll thread:amla

bashing him.

Ok I get it now :)) Someone needs to balance out the powers of dark side in this thread Bilal7 Bro Bahi needs you among his ranks today. :D

You mean a 7 wicket victory right ??? Weren't they chasing in the WC 2015 game ???

Remember this match? 11 needed in 12 balls. He was on 98. He could not finish it off. SA went on to lose.

43.1
Saeed Ajmal to Amla, 1 run, Amla happy to tuck this away to the leg side for a single
43.2
Saeed Ajmal to Duminy, no run, once again goes for the big swing, but misses. This one almost hit the off stump behind, being just a few inches away
43.3
Saeed Ajmal to Duminy, 1 run, JP uses his feet to get down the track and drill this straight to long-off
43.4
Saeed Ajmal to Amla, no run, follows Amla as he looks to create space on the off side, but is unable to do anything more than to chop onto his stumps
43.5
Saeed Ajmal to Amla, no run, once again Amla tries to get this away, but can't find the space
43.6
Saeed Ajmal to Amla, OUT, Amla looking to get to his milestone with a six over square leg, instead hits it directly up, with Mohammad Hafeez taking a difficult one to end what has been a top innings from the opener. Threatened to carry his bat through the innings, and his 98 has gone a long way in setting this up for South Africa

There is a bit of Viv Richards in there as well in my opinion.

He has the swagger of Ponting, the steel of Dravid and the aura of Viv.

When you combine the three you get Amla, and these qualities of his are always there for everyone to see in ICC tournaments.

Poor thread and another unnecessary dig at Amla who has never even claimed to the best batsman in any format.

Since, it was a meaningless game, did people expect Amla to gift his wicket away?

There is a reason Amla is a well-respected Cricketer world wide and most of posters on the other hand are just keyboard warriors.

Gracefully saluting the crowd after completing his century in the 2015 World Cup final vs Australia.

IndiaTv7cf3fc_amla-ton-lanka.jpg

All jokes aside amla not being able to do it in a major tournament is a let dow and a factor in South Africa not winning icc tournaments if one of your best batsman is always choking in key games what hope is there for the other players

Damn, he is getting bashed for scoring runs today... One thing you need to learn in Pakpassion - Never overhype your favourite player.

You mean a 7 wicket victory right ??? Weren't they chasing in the WC 2015 game ???

No, you have confused the two matches.

India were the one who were chasing 223 vs Pakistan, with Kohli throwing his wicket on 38, playing a loose shot against Wahab which triggered a collapse and India ended up losing by 29 runs.

I hope the 'choker' kohli learns something from him on how to bat in pressure situations.

i don't think it was 38 kohli got out on. you are being far too generous.
i think it was 4 c&b Riaz

Look at this this way.....had Wi lost to England or England lost to Srilanka, this would have been a must win game....so technically a clutch game

Clutch player :amla

OP forgot to mention he is the only batsman to have scored a century in every ICC tournament he has played in.

Kohli bowing down to Amla in the crowd who came to watch the Pakistan vs India match.

Amla would never do that, he's a good role model and nice guy for kids :amla

My goodness and I forgot about the all important knockout match today where Amla chased down 220 against Marshall/Waqar/Lillee/Ambrose. Chance less innings. The true master of chasing unlike that foul mouthed slandering choker Kohli :amla

To clarify things here ... My intent of opening this thread has been anything but not bash Amla.

In a forum where we have manuscript size threads running with praises of Kohli, Root, KW and Akmal, no one anywhere near the stature of this gentleman, Amla deserves a thread of appreciation.

He is being dubbed for all wrong reasons. It's not Amla's fault that South Africa haven't been able to qualify for finals. He has always played his part selflessly. It must be reminded that both Sachin and Viv (two all time greats of the game have choked big time in World cup finals). Viv's innings in the 1979 finals, was lucky - survived 2 close run outs which could have gone either way and easy catch dropped by Boycott. He did capitalise but one must not forget he got lucky.

There is no doubt about his greatness in tests - the real format of the game.

So Amla rightly eserves the title of modern day genius, rather than the other names mentioned above.

Don't ruin the thread damn it.

A few quotes on Amla:

"There are two kind of batsmen in the world. One Hashim Amla. Two all the others." - Andy Flower

Amazing cricketer, amazing average, on top of that he is Muslim. Subhanala, mashala

I have never seen any player get overrated as much as Amla is on this forum.... There's no way in hell Amla is anywhere near being the best LOI batsman in the world. He is top class in test cricket.

Really? Most ppl here agree he isn't all that in limited overs except for 1 guy.

Hilarious.. Especially the ones by McGrath , Ponting and Sachin..

He was chucking so it doesn't count. Otherwise, he would have dished out the Hussey treatment.

I heard the band Maroon 5 have teamed up with Christina Aguilera to come up with their new single 'Chokes like Amla' paying tribute to the greatest clutch player in LOI history.

This. Amla may not have done so well in world cups but he is still a great. Unfortunately many fools here won't give him the credit that he deserves because he has a beard.

You're on fire :)))

Lol! :)))

Cry as they might, the haters just can't do anything to scratch Amla's status as a future ATG.

Will go down in history as better than any Pakistani batsman ever and better than any Indian batsman, barring one.

Good innings today and South Africa might have won their match against the Windies if de Kock didn't run him out.

Well, there used to be a time when many PPers used to vastly overrate Amla in limited overs. He was never even close to the best batsman in his entire career, but pushing him in that league is getting reactions in threads like this.

Amla is not AB or Kohli, but he is still a very good limited over batsman. Sure, he goes mostly missing in big games in global tournaments, but he doesn't deserve this kind of bashing.

It's fault of some PPers to be honest.

I have never seen any player get overrated as much as Amla is on this forum.... There's no way in hell Amla is anywhere near being the best LOI batsman in the world.

To be honest, number of posters overrating him has come down to few posters now.

Better than any Pakistan batsman and inferior to Tendulkar only? Just when you think you have heard of all.

Miandad over him any day. Also, Inzamam was better in ODIs.

Gavaskar was comfortably better and Kohli will go down as the better batsman as well.

He is perhaps on par with Dravid in Tests.

In no world were Miandad, Gavasker, Inzi and Dravid were better batsmen than Amla. Comparable in one of the two main formats, perhaps, but Amla is clearly better overall.

Kohli will not get close until he ups his game significantly in tests.

Better than any English batsman ever too. The likes of ATG Cook are nowhere close.

A true cheetah.

Goes for a serious slog even if 100 runs are req of 1 ball.

Takes fighting till the last ball VERY seriously. :yk

Don't take a few posters here very seriously though. Not talking about you.
