Well done.

You deserve this win.

A tribute to NZ cricket and attitude.

Guess the 6th day came in handy and there's a result. Congrats to New Zealand!

After agony of the world cup final loss... I'm so happy for New Zealand. They deserved this win and they earned it.

Kane Williamson, you are a legend. Enjoy!

So fitting that Kane and Talyor saw us home.

Done it so many times for us in the past.

GOATs.

Categorically the best Test side in the world. Thoroughly deserved!

I think after the controversial WC19 finish this more than makes up for it. So happy for NZ, very likeable team and an excellent captain that leads them.

This will be a fitting retirement for Taylor today if he takes it. Taylor proved the point that age is nothing but a number.

A very skilled team. But more importantly, the most likable, chivalrous team in cricket today. Well done :)

Congrats enzed well played and thoroughly deserved!

All round excellent effort by NZ with bat and ball. They deserved the trophy win.

Congrats New Zealand for this momentous occasion! World Test Champions! The demons have been put to rest! So fitting that NZ GOATS Taylor and Williamson finish the chase off :rosco.

I'm paraphrasing here but Simon Doull said it best: sometimes the nice guys finish first for once.

Great win for NZ. Finally after the heartbreak of the world cup, they have something. First ever World Test champions has a nice ring to it. Would have been even more fitting had it been in front of packed Lords crowd though.

Brilliant from Williamson too, great captaincy and a batting masterclass. Stands up when it mattered the most.

Who da boss? :D

Well done NZ
It was a very well earned title and well deserved
Heart broken for my team but no complaints

Fantastic tour of Eng ending on a high note. Great job by NZ.

Congratulations Black caps.. I’m a bit gutted but very well deserved .. They were the better team in all 3 departments ..

Great squad, not just a great team.

They have most of the bases covered. Pace-bowlers, batsmen, medium-fast bowler, swing bowlers. The only weak link really is a high-class spinner.

Fantastic achievement.

Well deserved win.

But why are NZ likeable? What's so special about them? Pakistan and SL guys hardly sledge anyone either but they are not considered likeable? Why? I don't find NZ anymore likeable than Pakistan or SL.

Congratulations! Well deserved!

btw this should have been a best of 3, but ICC is ICC.

Hate to say it but it's because of the looks and the whole gora mentality around the world, that's my opinion of course.

Especially when your counterparts; Australia, England etc are somewhat bullies and bad boys.

Congratulations to New Zealand but they do not deserve it. They had an easy schedule and finished a 100 points behind India, the real champions of the WTC.

They were imperious at home and beat Australia in Australia with their reserve squad, enhancing their legacy as the greatest Asian Test team of all time.

New Zealand won the one-off match, but India were the best team in the championship.

No one will admit it but this WTC has been a farce and winning in Australia without a doubt is a far greater achievement, NZ have been very very lucky and were practically handed this trophy;

- I don’t expect them to win a full test series vs full strength England team in England

- I don’t see them winning in Australia

- They will not win in India either

Their level is demolishing the likes of Pak/SL/WI/SA who are all middle table teams

But because they are nice guys we should praise their so called golden generation.

New Zealand trounced India. They won by 8 wickets.Right now if New Zealand play 5 test series with India in England it will beat India.New Zealand beat England at home.

I think they need to change the points system. For example winning at home should be 1 point while winning away should be 2 points.

Also should be a 5 tests series. One test should not decide the
champ.

We beat the "real champions" 3 times this WTC - twice in NZ and once in England. Indians aren't as salty as you are. All of the Indians who I've come across online have been gracious in defeat.

Anyway,

And Inaugural..

You shouldn’t have hyped the India team they way you did with all those outlandish claims such as “ATG Asian test side of all time”, “Kohli greatest Asian captain of all time”, “Ashwin is a greater player than Imran Khan”.

This was always going to backfire and blow up in your face I’m afraid. Humble pie served my friend. M

I’m by no means an IK cheerleader but what I will say is he dominated NZ which had Hadlee and Martin Crowe. The former is not only levels above any of the current NZ bowlers but also one of the best bowlers to have ever played the game. Martin Crowe is a level or two above Williamson and far superior to the rest of the other NZ batsmen.

I hope lessons have been learnt from this episode of embarrassment for yourself.

Lastly I would like to express my wholehearted commiserations for the loss.

Well said and have you noticed Indians don’t even hype Kohli’s captaincy and Ashwin’s bowling as much as he does?

Mamoon if you are reading this, it’s time to be gracious in defeat.

What a delicious post, if not a little over salted.

Reading these is a real extra treat after the win today.

:)) How? Because your beloved Wasim Akram rated him the best player against reverse swing bowling? One averages almost 54, the other averages 45 odd.

Crowe would have averaged 50+ and higher than Williamson in the modern era.
Junaids can testify to this as well.

Would have , should have, could have counts for zilch. What matters is how well they performed during their time. Kane averages almost 54, while Crowe averaged 45 odd. That's what matters.

BTW, by your logic Gavaskar, Miandad, Chappell, and Border would have averaged more than 70 in this era :))

People should respect NZ for a great win. It was an 8 wicket phainta with a high threat of rain during all 6 days.

It is a great team and I'm sure 99% of fans around the world are genuinely happy for them.

At the same time, India also deserve the praise for playing the final.

Just accept that a better team won and move on.

Yes. They really had some work to do to win that game, given the lost time. It took some great plans & nerveless execution in the big moments.

Been a good time for a while now but Jameison has given them that touch of class- another gamebreaker,

Then honestly there is no point of a test final then. Keep it like a points league.

If averages alone are what determine the greatness of batsmen, Tendulkar is leagues behind Sangakkara and Kallis.

Kane Williamson is now an all-time great of the game. Statistics don't matter when you win a World Test Championship or win a test series in Australia/England/India vs a full strength side.

He has shown the world that he "performs when matters" and took his team over the line in what could be considered as NZ's greatest win of all-time.

Well deserved victory. They are a better team than India. A more professional outfit coupled with a solid team culture.

They beat India on a proper pitch by 8 wickets.New Zealand have demolished India in
New Zealand many times. To say New Zealand were handed the trophy is sour grapes.

Well Played, Kohli's brilliant stupid captaincy helped as well along with the players not having enough practice.. However NZ deserved the win, what separates teams from real champion side is being able to play in any conditions at any time, the WI of the 80s and the Great Aus side with Mcgrath and Warne would have beaten any opponent on the same game with or without match practice.

Congratulations NZ. The better team won the match and the championship. So happy to see Williamson and co lift an ICC trophy. You have shown that Nice guys do win eventually. You have always been my favourite team.

Also, Kohli, Shastri and co should stop being smug and arrogant. Win an ICC trophy first and then talk. You are no where as good as claim to be. That win in Australia series was despite you and your "attitude".

Kohli left Imran Khan behind long ago. You cannot compare a captain with 14 Test wins to a captain with 36, especially when the captain with 14 Test wins lost to Sri Lanka in 1985 when they only won 2 Tests in the entire decade.

Regardless of how many cross-era subjective and convenient adjustments one tries to make, the fact is that Kohli is a greater captain than Imran Khan.

People can moan all they want, but he is the most prolific Asian Test captain ever, and no one can take that away from him.

Only Smith, Ponting and Waugh have won more Tests as captain. Learn to respect greatness.

The current India is the greatest Asian Test team of all time and have a greater legacy than every other Asian team.

1) Two Test series wins in Australia; all other Asian sides put together have a big fat zero

2) Only two Test losses at home since 2015 and zero series lost

3) longest reign as the number 1 ranked Test team in the 2010-2020 decade

4) longest number 1 reign for any Asian Test team in history

5) Virat Kohli has more Test wins as captain than any other Asian captain in history

All these achievements make the current India the GOAT Asian Test team. No other Asian tream has a greater legacy.

No one will admit it but this WTC has been a farce and winning in Australia without a doubt is a far greater achievement, NZ have been very very lucky and were practically handed this trophy;

This “good guy” act that New Zealand players pull-off is so cringeworthy. Also, they are an Excellent team no doubt but they are also very lucky.

Thankfully they won this time otherwise people would be declaring them as moral champions just like they declared them as moral champions in the World Cup final.

And this is New Zealand’s greatest ever team, in spite of the Hadlee and Crowe factor. So no point chest-thumping over what Imran did against an inferior New Zealand them.

Imran’s Pakistan will get routed by Kohli’s India anywhere. A far better all-round team.

It's funny how you talk Kohli up so highly given how many of his own countrymen abuse him and want him gone.

How highly do you rate the captain of this generation or are you going to undersell him too despite being a world champion who led his team to two world finals and was crucial in NZ breaking their curse in world tournaments. Most likely accomplished something greater than your idolo will ever do as captain of India.

Kane Wiliamson and Martin Crowe are both phenomenal at home but when it comes to the former his away average is inflated by performances against minnows and on super flat pitches.

Kane Williamson averages almost 100 in Zimbabwe, 80+ in Bangladesh and 65 in UAE.

Barring West Indies, Martin Crowe averaged 40+ against the top 4 bowling attacks away from home during his era i.e. in Australia, England and Pakistan.

Now if we look at Kane Williamson against the top 4 bowling attacks, he only averages 40+ in Australia and even then he hasn't exactly dominated there with his average of 43. Martin Crowe in comparison averaged 67.

Williamson > Crowe at home but Crowe >> Williamson. I would take Crowe over Williamson for a world test championship and for a WTC final played in England.

Kane may considered NZ's greatest ever cricketer after this, Taylor second. Glory adds a lot to a players legacy, irrespective of ability.

Clearly better side among the two in this test. Deserving champions. Respect.
This doesn't mean India will give up

Congratulations to New Zealand but they do not deserve it. They had an easy schedule and finished a 100 points behind India, the real champions of the WTC.

They were imperious at home and beat Australia in Australia with their reserve squad, enhancing their legacy as the greatest Asian Test team of all time.

New Zealand won the one-off match, but India were the best team in the championship.

That’s what finals are about. Finals by their nature are one off games.

And it’s funny to see people acting as if india would have beaten NZ in a three match series in England.

They almost certainly would have been whitewashed again like they were whitewashed in New Zealand 15-16 months ago.

Congratulations to New Zealand for winning the ICC WTC.

Would a series have been better? Yes indeed, but with ICC at the helm, this sort of stupidity is quite common.

One thing to amend is the number of points per game. It should be equal, and all teams should play the same number of games to make it as fair as possible. Every series should be 3 games, which will also help in case one game is completely washed out. This complicated nonsense that the ICC did where a team could play 8-9 more tests compared to another one makes no sense and ruins the element of competition, because it's clear that one team played far more games than the other. This will also give smaller test nations more games against larger test nations.

Personally, I didn't think New Zealand deserved to win, particularly because the conditions weren't fair (WI would have been the most balanced conditions in my opinion), but still, well played to New Zealand.

Indian fans are looking for excuses such the pitch was in N Zealand’s favour or N Zealand had the advantage of playing a series in England prior to WTC or India would have won had it been a three test series.I am confident N Zealand would have white washed India in a 3 test series in England.

1. Hadlee
2. Williamson
3. Crowe
4. McCullum
5. Fleming

Glory adds when you play a major role in winning like Williamson.

Congrats to New Zealand they taught India a cricketing lesson in the final

New Zealand defeated India by eight wickets in the final on Wednesday to clinch the World Test Championship (WTC0 title at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Kane Williamson & Co. have since been receiving congratulatory messages from all corners after being crowned the first-ever Test champions of the world.

New Zealand rode on captain Kane Williamson's unbeaten 52 and Ross Taylor's 47 not out to chase down the target of 139 runs on the sixth day of the final and thrash India comfortably by eight wickets to lift the elusive Test mace. Joining on the bandwagon to congratulate the team, New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern hailed Williamson & Co. and said the whole country is proud of their achievement.

The New Zealand Prime Minister said the victory is a well-deserved one for the Black Caps and will act as an inspiration for the countrymen in the coming years. New Zealand had last won a major ICC trophy in the year 2000 when they clinched the Champions Trophy under Stephen Fleming. Their long-standing wait for a major ICC title came to an end on Wednesday.

“The Blackcaps have made New Zealand proud. This was a masterful performance from a team at the top of their game and on top of the world. Kane Williamson and the team leaders have built a brilliant and humble squad who has become an inspiration to many New Zealanders,” Jacinda Ardern said in a statement.

“Over a number of years now we have seen the development of a team and team culture that has taken New Zealand cricket to world-beating heights. This victory is the well-deserved culmination of that work. We look forward to welcoming the team home and celebrating their success,” she added.

With their memorable triumph in the World Test Championship, New Zealand also buried the ghost of the 2019 ODI World Cup final which they had lost to England on boundary count rule. While captain Williamson led from the front with the bat, the likes of Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee were impressive with the ball in the final against India.

I'm a big fan of Kohli and he has indeed done wonders for this India team but let him win an ICC trophy first before we start making comparisons to other great captains.

Also Imran Khan's away record outside Asia was much better. Kohli has done well in Australia but has lost his last series in England, New Zealand and South Africa and has yet to win in any of these countries.

One could argue if he was given the luxury of dust bowls and DRS, Abdul Qadir and co would have done the business to give his side the whitewash home series wins.

I respect his greatness believe me, I just don't go overboard with the way you hype him up.

Most of the Indian fans are far more objective and critical about his captaincy. At times he has made blunders with his selections and tactics which is one of the reasons why they have yet to win the WC, WTC, WT20 or even the CT since 2013.

Imran's team would have beaten this NZ team home and away. If he could do it against Hadlee, Crowe and co and compete with WI, I don't see why he would be troubled by this NZ team.

Imran Khan may not in your good books for his political and ideological reasons (like myself) but don't let that cloud your judgement when it comes to his cricketing prowess.

Both ICC titles won by Kiwis came against India in the final .. bogey team ?

Hilarious post!

No matter how NZ reached to the finals, they still belted your best Indian side in final. Had they been inferior team, they could have succumbed before Kohli 11. But Alas !

Also, India would have lost against any team in Final be it Australia, SA or England, considering their track record in England.

Bitter pill to swallow though !

If averages alone are what determine the greatness of batsmen, Tendulkar is leagues behind Sangakkara and Kallis.

Leagues behind? Kane averages 9 runs ahead of Crowe, the same is not true for Tendulkar with Kallis and Sangakkara. Add to that, Sangakkara averages a mere 42 odd away from Asia, while Tendulkar averages 51 odd.

Firstly many congrats to NZ and their fans. A much deserved victory.

I must say it came as a surprise to read Indian fans crying about the rain on the first day of this test because it's exactly what they needed to avoid this humiliation but unfortunately for them it didn't rain long enough.

India's only hope of getting a result in England is simply rain dependant. Junaids

Mamoon Kohli's India would have had their @sses handed to them by the Great WI (80s) and Australia (2000s) sides.

IK's achievements against WI can't be overlooked or belittled.
