Wow getting Saim & Maaz together. That is incredible. Makes up for the poor Marnus signing.
Got a good bowler for Akif too.

Saim got massive amounts of money so not sure what their remaining budget is looking like but this is a great start for Hyderabad.

Saim rumored to have been signed at 12.5 crore.

Labuschagne is a strange choice. However Hyderabad’s local picks are fire.

BUT, if that is the actual contract for Saim then that’s insane. Because you’ve effectively spent a fifth of your purse on Saim. That means your remaining squad will be domestic journeymen and young players. It’s a risk, but I suppose that you can still find diamonds in domestic cricket and youth.

WOW, Hyderabad’s local picks are phenomenal.

I said yesterday, that making Saim Ayub the icon player would be brilliant & that’s what they have done. But bringing in Maaz as an emerging pick with Usman Khan as a keeper & good player of spin is superb. Akif Javed is a decent pacer who needs to work on his leap but other than that, a decent pacer.

Marnus is a random signing but the local picks a brilliant.

Labuschagne is really a strange choice.
They could have signed up even mark chapman or tim robinson instead
 
depends on the price they paid for labu, could be a good money ball signing, ok batter, leggie, medium pacer, very good fielder. if they got him at a good price hes a potentially good package. also from a media branding pov, hes a very good brand ambassador, could elevate the franchises presence and capture eye balls. i think its a decent signing all things considered.
 
The PCB needs to get strict with the franchises and make it clear to them that the Direct Signing amounts are for elite players, not useless third grade players.

There was a proposal to do it in Sri Lanka so that the national team players would be available and most importantly the captain of the franchises available but this was rejected by most of the Franchises overall.

It's not even about doing it in SL especially during a WT20, but doing it on a weekend.

They proberly went with someone who can bat the 20 overs they already have Saim and Maaz who will go from ball one on the attack and they have Usman.
 
Top order is sorted for Hyderabad plus they have the 5/6 bowling option sorted with both Maaz.They need to target the bowling

I dont get the labu hate, hes actually a very talented player. Maybe hasnt explored t20is much but could turn out to be a great buy.

Hes at best okay for this line adds experience whilst Saim and Maaz can go hell for leather.

The Nepalese spinners do look good, I forgot their names
Also the World Cup will let them acclimatise to sub continental conditions in time for the PSL
It also gives players a chance to become the next Tim David who walked into the Australian team after playing the PSL

I haven't seen the Scotland match so not sure about him. Bennet I believe is from Zimbabwe and they aren't an associate nation.

That's an area that is pretty much covered in the PSL but you never know. Zampa, Tahir, Maharaj, Green, Hassan Khan, Wellalage, Mehdi, Vandersay, Raqibul, Sodhi, etc. have all put their names in the auction. Sandip Lamichane hasn't put his name in the auction, he I believe would have the highest chance to be picked but he's not there in the list.
 
I really think that Multan, if they’re smart, have a real opportunity to build a strong local core. Remember, for next years PSL you can have 7 retentions. So, with a full purse Vs the other franchises, you can spend big on:

Local Multan lads Sameer and Arafat Minhas
Faisal Akram
Khwaja Nafay
The Shah brothers Naseem and Ubaid
Irfan Khan Niazi.
Maybe Mo Haris
Abdul Subhan or Sayyam

Other franchises just don’t have rhe purses to compete.

You can then supplant that with intelligent foreign signings such that @GoUgandaCranes has highlighted.

This gets you a Pakistani middle order and bowling attack, a keeper (in Haris or Nafay) and a captain (in Niazi or Haris)

A lot of the franchises have retained oldies. The way to always go is to retain young Pakistani players below 26 and you sort yourself out for a decade.

Do not waste your money on Rizwan, Haris Rauf, Warner or Iftikhar.

Let’s see what they do.

To wit, for those saying that the above doesn’t include any ‘big names’, I agree. And Multan will not earn huge revenue, as Naseem is the only ‘brand’ amongst these. But you bank on developing your own talents and you bank on the biggest revenue draw, a young Pakistani team that plays modern cricket, and gives the nation hope for the future.

For Multan, it really depends on the owners. If it's Ali Tareen again, then we may see the same setup returning. They have a different style of cricket management & are bound to repeat their previous patterns.

The T20 world cup is an ideal time to scout the talent though, so very hopeful that we will see some of the names appear in the PSL. One good thing is that some foreign PSL regulars have set their price very high & some like Kohler Kadmore have not entered the auction.

Great chance for a franchise to go from a player like Jordan to a player like Hasan Mehmud, Nahid Rana, Ripon Mondol who are priced 4 times lower. Really hoping to see some BD flavor in the PSL after all the hue and cry and some of them are great bargain buys.

I mean a player like Max Bryant at his base price is literally a steal.

It’s funny how cricket scouting is different to say, football scouting.

In football, you should never ever ever scout players at international tournaments because of the quality disparity between club football and international football (far worse).

In cricket, it’s the other way round. International tournaments, and an associate cricketer’s performance at ICC tournaments is THE indicator of their mentality and skills. Thus it’s a golden opportunity for PSL franchises to unearth some actual bargains. Money ball, if you will. Ofcourse, it’ll also be affected by recency bias, but still, it shows how non-local stars can be developed.
 
On the auction, I’d predict something else as well. I see Hyderabad splurging big on nos 5 and 6 position on foreign players and then stacking the rest of the squad with bargain Hyderabad origin players like:

Hasnain, Dahani, Zahid Mehmood, Saad Khan and Nomi Payen.

I also think they’ll make Saim the captain. Which I think is a great move for Pakistan cricket, as I want this lad to develop his leadership skills.

Captain might be from USA. Their owner mentioned in a recent interview that he wants a leader more than captain. He believes he personally knows someone who will come and captain.

Strike rate of 128 in all T20 cricket over the last 2 years. And he's barely played any in the first place

Funny thing is they could open batting together and also bowl a couple of overs in powerplay if needed.

Very happy to see these two youngsters emerge as potential 3Dimensional T20 cricketers.

Those bargain players aren't too bad as squad players in PSL. Will be a smart move by them if they can pull it off.

This is up to the franchises themselves to decide. PCB mustn't get involved. If a team has a strategy and thinks a certain player can work in that strategy then it's up to them how they pursue.

The proof will be in the pudding at the end of the season.
