Hong Kong Sixes (2025) - Discussion Thread

Kuwait win the game by 37 runs. They are in the final. Their first ever final in a global cricket event.
 
Kuwait came out of nowhere. They were supposed to be eliminated in group stage.

They ended up eliminating India, Afghanistan, and England.

If they can win the final, it would be shocking. It would be like Greece winning 2004 Euro.
 
SL beat UAE by 21 runs. They won the Bowl trophy (3rd trophy).

BD vs Hong Kong now for the Plate trophy (2nd trophy).

Think this league is more entertaining than the pyjama leagues like 100 t10 and ipl happening around the world.

Who is in their team? Is it desis or Arabs?
 
I have always liked this tournament.
I first watched this tournament with my cousins in 2012 as a 5 year old (obviously too young to understand whats going on) and fell in love with it.

Best game was Pakistan vs Australia. Top quality.

This one became a thriller because BD's 5th bowler was not a proper bowler (he generally keeps and doesn't bowl).

Also, last ball that went for the winning boundary. Fielder didn't even dive. Lazy effort. :inti
 
What a winnn. Finally after losing 3 finals straigh we won and now have the most championships in hk sixes

I think it's because bowling in this format is very hard compared to batting.

The skill level required to hit sixes on these pitches with those short sized boundaries is very minimal. Any uncle who is an active Cricketer can hit sixes here.

When it comes to bowling though. It becomes very difficult. One reason I think Pakistan wins this tournament is because of their bowling. All the teams gets smashed for 4-5-6 sixes every over. But Pakistan somehow always has that mystery spin option or fast bowler that will bowl yorkers and get wickets. That's something most teams lack.

This time it was better.

The pitches in kowloon were always covered thus the ball would never grip and everything went out of the mark and yorkers ran away for four.

This time the pitches were uncovered and played in a ground which was bigger. So there was movement for spinners and boqlers that slowed in down in between.

Australia almost beat Pakistan due to this

I checked the stats of HK player Aizaz Khan in T20Is which seemed mediocre, but in Hong Kong Sixes he seemed the next coming of AB de Villiers.

They sent Jishan to play in this fun Cricket instead of focusing on domestic Cricket.

Hong Kong actually played their national players in this tournament. LOL. These same guys played in the Asia Cup.

BD and most teams sent in rookies/reserve players.
