How do you rate Steven Smith?

Worst bowler to get 400 Test wickets?

That would make consistency in policy more apparent.
 
His highest T20 score before this was 34. Has improved massively in all three formats of the game.
 
Potentially Greateat Unorthodox batsman of cricket's history , if he goes on like this

Pains me to see Smith ranked as the number 1 batsmen, not because he's an Australian but because of his ungainly looking technique.

He was little bit unorthodox more stylish and classical

Whereas Smith is unorthodox unlike any other batsman .

Mathew Bell and Steve Smith , I will class as totally different unorthodox batsman . Bell was an int failure but Smith is a genious .
 
Smith ain't as unorthodox as one G Smith who also happened to be a giant in recent times.
 
Showing good potential as captain unlike Azhar Ali whom according to our experts needs another 5 years to learn despite being 30.
 
Not pleasing to the eyes, but have a feeling he will lead the ranking in next 5 years as he should after all the effort/ hard work
 
Best batsmen in the world right now.

No one in world cricket has better temperament than him.

This is an iconic thread, should've been preserved in its present state with the worst cricketer possibly title or w.e it was.

Always a pleasure to skim through this thread as Smith was ridiculed with people initially going like this: :facepalm: to him scoring a good score here and there with people going like this: :13: to him going all out and scoring big runs everywhere with people going: :14:

I have watched cricket for many years and as sure as the sun will come up tomorrow Smith will lose some form and go through lean times. I just hope Australia can get a few more batsmen into good form before that happens.

Don't know about moon or mars but he will not be able to score single run in Pak.

I hope this shuts up the tedious and futile attempts to label him as a FTB. But as always I doubt it will. Haters gonna hate I guess.
 
AUS truly deserves to be No.1 if they win this game. Smith, awkward as he is, has proved that he is very effective. All hail the new King and his team. Truly amazing.
 
I agree with the OP.

Although Smith is currently in red-hot form, but lets examine the facts on the ground.

1. Smith has a shoddy batting technique.
2. No defense.
3. Has only played in familiar conditions, he will be found out in SC.
4. His leggies are all hit me balls. Shane Warne my @$$.
5. Amir's inswinger will castle Smith EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
6. OP is always right.
 
Australia needs a world class spinner then they will be invincible again.

No, he is not

His average in Asia is 49 , that's the place where you need a world class spinner to win you matches. He is good enough in England, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand because of the support from the fast bowlers
 
Steven Smith is a good batsman but he is not as good as our boys, like Shehzad, Hafeez or Misbah. Our boys do it best and must always play in hostile conditions, whereas Steve and the others all play in comfortable conditions. He can not do anything against our boys like Ajmal, Shah, Irfan and Amir.
 
Absolutely ridiculous 100/test ratio, yes the form won't last forever but who cares, he's scored runs all over the world and if he was Pakistani, PPers would've been calling him the second coming of Bradman and already better than any batsman from Pakistan.

Smith has now scored a century in 4 consecutive Tests. Jacques Kallis, Mohammad Yousuf and Gautim Gambhir all scored centuries in 5 consecutive Tests, while Bradman holds the record with centuries in six straight Test matches.

Smith's century was the 14th of his career. Only four batsman have scored more centuries before turning 27 - Tendulkar, Alastair Cook, Bradman and Harvey. Sir Garry also had 14 Test centuries before the age of 27.

79 batsman have scored a minimum of 2000 runs prior to their 27th birthday. Smith's average (59.35) is fifth best of all time. Only Bradman, Harvey, Graeme Pollock and Lara posted a higher average.

And you are also liar as Kaneria has an average of 40, not 46, in Australia wit h5 five wicket hauls.
 
A brilliant test batsmen who has proved his worth in most of the conditions and looks set to follow the footstep of other Australian's all time greats.
However, in limited overs format he still needs to prove his worth and as of now he is nowhere near ABD or Kohli in that format.
 
Loved his crazy little knock yesterday, everybody else looked like a deer in the headlights facing wagner but smith just came out and dominated him basically ending nz's and bmacs only plan on how to win the test.

It is what you want and expect from your best bat that ability to just take control and make the opposition feel like they have no plans that will consistently work, great stuff.

Wouldn't get a game for Pakistan/India/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka
 
He should give hope to all the Pakistani batsmen. Technique is over rated. He has his way of playing and is very effective. He is very resilient, values his wicket a lot and plays an aggressive brand of cricket. What else do you need in a batsman?
 
Run scoring machine but easily one of the most ugly batsmen going around.

To be fair, re-reading some of the earlier responses to this one post I will forever be known for on PP - it is clear that most people agreed he was at best mediocre, and at worst, the worst Australian cricketer in recent history.

You see, this was the ultimate reverse-jinx social experiment. My masterpiece.

But for real, it definitely is one of the most infamous posts I will be remembered for here, especially because my main man [MENTION=132373]Convict[/MENTION] goes around with it in his signature still.

He would already have been an ATG if he played for any other country but Australia have a rich history of great batsmen.The scary part is that he’s not even 30.He already has 22 hundreds and he’s won the WC + the Ashes.

Think he's already an ATG. More of a matter whether he ends up as Australia's second best batsman ever after Bradman or not. He's already better than Clarke, and if he keeps this up will end up better than Waugh and Ponting too. Never seen a batsman so untroubled by bowlers or different/foreign conditions.

He will finish as an ATG. He could also finish as Australia's 2nd greatest batsmen after Bradman imo.
