How far can Zak Crawley go in his Test career?

The white Yasir Hameed. How do you not score a single hundred in four innings on the flattest roads you'll ever see ?

Living example of class privilege in English cricket. If you go to public school and your dad is on the Sunday Times Rich List, you don't need to worry about getting enough chances.
Other then when playing vs Pakistan, Crawley has been trash. He definitely needs to get the boot

What is Crawley’s career stat minus that giant knock he played against Pakistan

No opener in Test history with 2,500 runs has averaged less than Zak Crawley..

Crawley test avg is 30.33 after 55 test matches

:kp

Damn bro that’s a pathetic record who’s played 50 tests.
Sometimes you just need to pull the plug, instead of trying to prove a point to yourself.

Atleast Greame Hick had an incredible run on the county circuit before he was given that 'blind faith' run.

Not sure what Crawley has done to earn this kind of backing, besides McCullum thinking that he looks like a really good player.

It’s not about the Pakistan knock.

Crawley averaged 50 and was England’s top scorer in the 2023 Ashes. He is still living off that performance although he has not done enough in the last two years.

Did he play vs Pakistan in the 2023 Ashes? 🤡

He is poor and should be dropped, but let’s not rewrite history and blame Pakistan for everything.

He averaged 50 in 2023 Ashes. That is why he is still in the team, although I think he should definitely be axed if he fails in the remaining 3 Tests.

Crawley continues to be pathetic... another failure for him.. Against India, 3rd test, 1st inning.

18 for him only...

ENgland need to move on from him.

Zak Crawley slams a 42-ball half-century!

48 of his 52 runs so far have come in fours, with just four singles

The guy opens and averages 45+ with the bat but strikes in mid 40s. He's been scoring runs for last 4 years both in county and Zimbabwe's domestic. Still remains nowhere near selection. Zak Crawley has been given such a big run without him really churning out consistent runs.

Some of the shots that he hit yesterday were out of this world. A poor batsman cannot hit those shots.

Yes he is inconsistent, but you can also see why England persist with him. He is a serious underachiever. I think his main problem is he just cannot concentrate on every ball. When he is locked in he is a serious player.

He is a very good player against pace bowling when he gets in. Averages 43 against Australia from 8 Tests home & away. Again like you say, a poor batsman would not be capable of that.

In terms of why he is still in the team, it’s as much about the opening partnership as it is about his own form. Duckett as an individual player has solid career numbers, whereas Zak does not. But look at their record as an opening partnership, and there is a compelling case not to split them up.

That is true, it’s more about the sum of the parts. Also, there isn’t a young opening prospect - or not that I am aware of - that is banging on the door right now. When it happens, there will be a change of guard.

McKinney at Durham & Haines at Sussex are probably the next openers in line, however when they’ve been in white hot nick this season the selectors have continued to back a misfiring Crawley, then they’ll lose form and Crawley finally has a good innings, so England miss the boat to make a change.

Timing will be important here. If Crawley performs in the Ashes then of course he’ll be staying in, but if he has a shocker and England lose, that will probably be Stokes stepping down and some of his favoured picks being jettisoned, so could be the end for Crawley.

A mediocre batsman

Very get out able in the slips to gully cordon

England are really missing a trick not selecting him for the white-ball formats

Ordinary Test batter. He has been lucky to play on some flat pitches are home due to Bazball. He has no technique against new ball which is the reason for the the style of play. Any other era, he wouldn't have played so many Tests. England in this Bazzball era are happy with his pretty 30-40 runs as long as it is scored fast. He averages 50+ against only 3 countries, Pakistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe. Has decent average of 43 against Australia.
