How good or bad really is the Pakistan Test team?

They are the definition of a mid-tier team.

SA? They are currently weak away from home but a very good test side at home. Only Eng and Aus have had any serious success there. I think it was just 3 years ago when they beat us 2-1...

As for Pakistan, they are indeed an average side but there are players who can become great if treated well:

Babar
Rizwan
Shaheen
Hasan Ali

beyond that a crop of youth batsmen and bowlers who should make a return to the side and an experienced pro in Abbas who should be selected too.

I can't see them losing to a non Asian side at home (Pakistan).

I also can't see them winning away against any side other than Bang or Zimb.
