Record for longest time without sleeping

It has been almost 24 hours that I have been awake and from the look of things, it is highly unlikely that I will sleep for another 12 hours atleast.

My all-time longest time without going to sleep is around 48 hours. It was during my years as design engineer (in my last company) that a machine that we designed and assembled was not working and the buyer was due to visit in a couple of days. So we worked round the clock and somehow made it run properly.

I was wondering how long our fellow PPers have stayed awake at a stretch.

mine has been 24 hours, that was like 4 years or more when i was in college, completing my final project, and in the end it was worth while :)

Mine was probably 21-22 hrs..... It was like 1 month ago...... I couldnt get to sleep on that day. I was freakin soooooooo sad.....:(

The world record is 264 hours by Randy Gardner of San Diego in 1964.

that's 26 days.

longest of mine is 34-35 hours twice i done this, first time was on the day before my bruv's nikah day where we stayed up all night putting on the decorations and final touches and then 8 in the morning off we went to manchester for the nikah, second time was just cause no one was at home i coyldny be bothered sleeping.

i have also gone 24 hourse without sleep quite some times in regards to when pak played aus in aus in 03/04, i had to go school the following day, i was knock out

first time that i went 35 hrs without sleep i was lost during the day but the second time i was ok but i wouldnt adivse anyone to do it, it makes u have memory loss in a weird way but u get the memory back

I once stayed awake for 40 hours thanks to wedding preparations.Whilst on the subject i must say that i love sleeping and once crashed out for 38 hours non-stop!.Not even a visit to the men's!!!! :))

once i worked 11pm-7am-3pm....when i went homei had some things to do then ,back again
to work11-7 shift then was my day off, probably the longest for me.

however i regularly work 11-7 and back for another 11-7 with very little rest in between

Only 1 major incidence of 'sleep deprivation'

Got up at 7am & started work at Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm. Went home. Changed, ate and went to Job No.2 at 6pm and continued working through the night and morning until Saturday until 2pm

Awake for 32 hours - all work, no rest.

Slept all weekend though

Ha, I barely sleep these days.

Which is kind of strange because maybe I should be catching up on my sleep, what with it being summer vacation and all. The longest I was up would have to have been a couple of days ago, where I stayed up for around 36 hours. The reason being... well, actually, there was no real reason. Just fooling around with my friends.

Hmm Polite correction brother, isn't that 11 days?

Says so in the wiki article too :)

salman did you do your math right?????

Anyway, the longest i went without sleeping is for 19 hours. That was when my uncle was getting married in Pakistan.

Once I traveled on Gulf Airlines from the US to Lahore, one of my biggest mistakes in life. The route was so messed up I cannot imagine a more twisted one. After the trip I cursed my friend who had come up with itinerary (we had travelled together). Also since we were both students at the time and therefore cut corners wherever possible.

It started:
Austin, TX to Houston, TX. (2 hr stay)
Houston, TX to London. (7 hr stay - this almost killed us)
London to Muscat (4hr stay)
Muscat to Doha (pointless)
Doha to Karachi (originally 6 hr stay but thank God my friend had a 'contact' so we got an early flight)
Karachi to Lahore (3 hr just to get out of the frickin airport)

All told the trip was a good 40+ hrs and I hardly slept like 2 hrs total. Absolute calamity it was .

Let me just highlight the above part here, Easa ;-) . I was confused before I read this one. I thought you are in...... L......O......V......E....... etc etc :p ....

around 22-23 hours.....had 2 exams and a research essay due the same day.... red bull helped alot.... but being awake that long made me a bit cranky

40+ hours has not been uncommon, especially working in the IT field. Spent many a weekend, fuelled by coca-cola, getting systems back on track before the end-users show up on Monday morning.

Don't you mean 24 x 4 = 96 hours?

am pretty confident I can beat this 264 hour WR easily .....thats ten days ? cos I have already done 3-4 days without sleep more than a dozen times in last 7-8 years !

72 hours.

Mostly spent with a cousin playing Commandos: Beyond the call of duty, when I was 17 back in Pak. That game was totally worth it.

May I point out that there is a slight difference between 10 days and 3-4 days? :)

It was during a sleepover at my cousin's house.

I went from 10 AM [Friday] all the way to 10 PM [Saturday].

So basically, 36 hours. I can tell you, I slept that day like I had never slept before. By the end, you tend to get all woozy and it becomes a fight to keep your eyelids open. A certain level of torture.

That's 36 hours bud. The most I've gone through is a day.

28 Hours , 10 Am woke up, flight from Tor to DxB didnt sleep and then got home and slept later that day

I think it was around 40 hours but by the end I was so utterly clueless about everything I have no idea what the time was or what happened or anything so I could be wrong.

I remember I went through a half hour spell after about 24 hours when I was laughing my absolute guts off at everything, no matter what it was. A man served me chai....i started laughing, someone opened a door....i started laughing etc etc couldn't help it. Was very strange.

i don' sleep for 62 overs, when i was in injured

Sure you weren't smoking some of the good stuff Hash? :asif

A bit over 3 days, around 81 hours. Slept for about 20 hours after that.

45 hours, then slept for 2 hours, woke up and stayed awake for 15 hours, then finally slept for 6 hours.
That happened in July last year when my grandmother was in ICU.

About 38 hours,From 5pm in afternoon on wed to 7am friday

Was working nights from 10pm to 7am, after finished work thurs morn went to oxford, spent majority of day there and just came back in time on thurs night for work

Finished work on friday morn looking and feeling like a zombie

48 hours funny thing is my dad had to yell @ me to go to sleep because i wasn't sleepy @ all

It was during my spring break in March, earlier this year. I think I must have gone 50 hours without getting any sleep. By the end of it, I was so exhausted.

Also, I can't fall asleep on planes/airports. Therefore, a long flight to/from Pakistan means no sleep for 24 hours.

38 hours after the Pakistan ireland match at the world cup 2007. :(

Friday Woke Up at 1pm
Then Slept Saturday 11pm.

Good thread, The longest I have done is around 4 days+ but less than a full 5. (not sure about the exact timings). I do 24-36 quiet regularly (It's not even that hard anymore)

Although I have promised my family to not do it anymore.

not more than 30-35 hours

i have trouble staying up all night !!

"How long was your longest period" I literally read this line 3 times, then finally read the whole sentence. My mind was not allowing me to go forward w/out letting me reassure what was written. lmao

^ lol i was thinking the same thing.

49 hours, btw. I find it absolutely impossible to sleep on international flights...

30 hours, pulled an all nighter on a Sunday to get an assignment in to Uni on the Monday. did it with 2 friends. we were walking in to submit our journals without the use of our legs, a strange force was propelling us up the hill from my friend's flat. it's weird, like all your energy is expended so your body carries you through on sheer willpower. needless to say I went to bed as soon as this vile task was over and done with, and was not heard of from the rest of the world until the next morning.

I remember a very close friend of mine, we were on some school trip (last year!) and he did not sleep for 50 hours as he said he wanted to get that fifty :inzi

He was so proud, anyway. After he completed the fifty he lay down on the bed and something serious happened. He had immense pain in his head and screamed and cried and wen't crazy. We had to hold him and comfort him a lot because it was something absolutley intense as we had never witnessed before. We SERIOUSLY thought we were going to loose him that day :(

But now we just laugh about it, lol. And we promised never to tell his parents haha :inti
