Runs
218,136
Given what happened in the first innings, anything above 150 looks unlikely but then there have been miracles.

Apart from Babar and to an extent rizwan no one looks like scoring runs. 170+ would be to much to chase last.

200 max if there's is a partnership between Babar and any of the Pakistani top order batsmen.

No matter what the target would be, Babar will have to do bulk of the scoring to take the team closer to the target

Nothing more than 200 in the 4th innings.

Around 180 max. Thing is the runs that were scored today required a hell lot of effort. Lanka gave nothing. Babar had to tire out Jayasurya 1st for any chance of scoring.

Both our openers are very poor vs spin. Azhar is beyond hope. Agha is on a vaccation here.
Rizwan will have to standup along with babar (again).

It depends on Babar, and the one who decides to get a big partnership with him.

The others are not good enough.

Maybe the title should be How many runs can Babar Azam chase to win the 1st Test against Sri Lanka? :)

Seriously though anything over 220 could be tricky.

Lead heading into dangerous territory now... 83 runs so far

Anything between 200-250, Pakistan should be able to chase.

If it was vs India I'd back Pakistan to chase even 500 in the 4th innings.

Assuming they will learn from their mistakes of the first innings and not playing for the spin and rather the line of the ball, I would say 220-260 (Will have to be a record chase though I guess in that case). If its the same planting the foot, poor execution of sweep etc. then Srl has already won.

With the ease SL have batted today so far just losing 1 of their main players and the lead near 150, 7 wickets in hand still and 2 full days left.

They're looking like giving 300+ as a target at least unless somehow the bowlers blow them away for anything under 300 as our bowlers have not really posed a threat so far.

Depends entirely on the opening partnership. Imam needs to raise his hand in a tough situation for once, just disappears when the going gets tough.

With Babar Azam in the side, Pakistan should be comfortable chasing anything upto 350.

what about Azhar Ali , always get failed whenever situation demands , he should be out of team , despite of having so much experience , he is good for nothing.

350.
Do not judge a pitch until both teams bat.

Lolwut? Why are you then making a prediction?

Both teams have already battted. There was a vast gulf in the 2 teams spin bowling even in the 1st innings. Pakistan are already out of it.

Yasir Shah has ensured pakistan are well and truly burried here.

Any half decent support spinner to Nawaz and the target might have been a 100 less.

Pakistan will skittle here.

100+ fourth innings targets at Galle:

Won: 15
Lost: 2
Draw: 2

In Sri Lanka, only two teams in the history of test cricket have chased 200+ to win a test match.

1. Pakistan 382-5 (2015)
2. India 264-3 (2001) and 258-5 (2010)

Barring a little bit of resistance from Babar and leg side Rizwan, I dont see Pakistan doing much at all.

I thought 300 was chasable but the way Pakistani players now look on the field, they look totally out of it, time to start preparing for the next test match...

1-0 Sri Lanka

I miswrote. Its:

Won: 2

When you least expect PCT to chase thats when they come close, I would expect them to mess up 220 but have more faith with 320-50ish

Pak can win this. Unless they play some nonsense cricket, they will come very close and possibly win this.

Pakistan have messed this up big time

From not picking fawad to not picking an extra spinner and overbowling yasir shah who went at 4 an over

Amateur mistakes and this has cost them

So let's get to 268/4 and then theres only about 70 odd hopefully to chase with 6 wickets in hands. Simples.

Expecting the typical early collapse, then some sort of fightback in middle order to give hope, only to be taken away with another collapse and lose by 50-70 odd runs. Let's see. Either that or 150 odd all out.

333 already.

Win percentage has to be very low.

Over to Babar and Rizwan.

my mistake. I thought the ground where Pak chased 380 odd was here. But 268/4 in a recent chase will give some hopes although, i doubt NZ had any good spinners. This should be an interesting contest, don't lose hope

The usual selfish batsmen will score soft losing 50 in final inns. Then will go back to failing again in 2nd test. Pakistan facing heavy defeat here.

Safe to say this is a lost game unless Babar and Rizwan make substantial contributions.

Blame our selectors and Babar for picking our 2 strokeless wonders in Azhar Ali and Imam. I guess the tuk-tuk era needs to be prolonged as possible.

Lead past 340 now. The scoreboard pressure will be too much

They already got enough with 8 wickets in hand.

IMO, this game is done and dusted.

Humble pie hasn't tasted this good in a while.

A totally amazing and very pleasant victory for Pakistan. Almost no one expected it.

Congrats!

This was a great test match and reveals the beauty of test cricket.

Good one ... I felt same... + It plays into Pak hands courtesy to srilanka last wicket dragging to 4th day instead of letting their bowlers have a go at pak openers for nervy 5 to 10 overs .
