How to fit Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes in the same team? Who misses out?

Ben Stokes vs Chris Woakes : Who would you keep in the England side?

Leaving aside hype, domestic stats only suggest Stokes is a better batsman, Woakes is a better bowler. Correct assessment?


As an aside, Woakes' bowling seems to have improved a lot as of late, could be a handy option at 8/9, but hard to leave out Finn, Broad, Andy, Wood.

His batting didn't seem that bad.. If he could work on his batting and find a way into the top 6, England could have a versatile and deadly line-up, but I don't know if he is up for that. One to watch for English fans or not?

Woakes bowling seems to have adjusted a bit over the last 12 or so months. Originally he was closer to Anderson in his bowling style with low-mid 80mph swingers whilst he's now picked up the pace much more and seems to regularly be hitting close to 90mph.

In terms of comparison I'd say Woakes is possibly better with the new ball but Stokes is better with the old ball and seems to get some movement where others can't. Both have generally been top 6 batsman at county level.

I have massive respect for Stokes the bowler - actually, I think depending on his fitness and desire, I believe he can become a proper test class seam bowler.

His seam position, wrist release and strong action are actually spot on.

Saw this in one test in the Ashes, that when he swings, he swings it big.

His batting isn't what excites me, it is his bowling that does.

Woakes on the other hand, seems like a bowler for the short formats.

In my opinion Woakes is a better allrounder than Stokes. However Stokes is an amazing impact player. Is there a way you can fit both these allrounders considering Stokes is back. Does Sam Curran miss out ? Does Rashid miss-out ? Or broad is dropped for his inconsistency.

I think England needs to play both

Broad has been miserable as well. Maybe drop broad and play woakes

Five pacers is just too much, spinner might not even bowl but it gives the captain the comfort of having another option in the form of a spinner

Variety just for its own sake is pointless. If you have quality and variety - that is obviously best - but else I favour picking your best options. Rashid is very very average.

Drop Broad. He does not add much vale now. Only one of Anderson and Broad should be in the team and Anderson is clearly the better bowler.
