Huge brawl breaks out in UK street as mob throw punches after India vs Pakistan cricket match

haha..rubbish..majority of labour supporters in leicester are hindus. Yes some are moving to the tories because they are islamaphobic or opportunistic but labours vote is solid here.

It may have been solid labour but it may not remain so.

And what is Islamophobic in voting Tory?

Its only natural to vote for other alternatives when the one you voted is useless to you

Oh no.... this may not sit well with some.

Violent ethnic clashes in Leicester last year were stoked by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist party, UK security sources say.

Activists from Mr Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) used closed WhatsApp groups to incite British Hindus to confront Muslims as tensions escalated in August, they claim.

Sources warn the activists’ aims to influence British politics could become more ambitious. ‘So far, it’s mainly local politics – Modi and his BJP doing what they would do in Gujarat [Mr Modi’s home state] to get this or that local councillor elected,’ one said.

‘But it has to be stopped before it spreads to attempt to influence our national politics.’

The claims are likely to provoke a diplomatic storm between London and India at a time when Prime Minister Rishi Sunak – himself a practising Hindu – is trying to seal a lucrative post-Brexit trade deal with India.

The Indian High Commission was approached for comment.

BJP isn't fuelling Hindu positivity and aggression?.

It's catnip for revisionist historians with Alzheimer's

A UK security source said there was evidence of BJP-linked activists using closed WhatsApp groups to encourage Hindu protesters to take to the streets.

A very dumb move by Modi and the BJP. Taking to the streets in the UK will only lead to harm to RSS soldiers. This isnt India.

I wonder if neutral Brit Rishi Sunak will comment on this seeing as it's certainly Britain's "internal matter". Or maybe he'll be too busy trying to hide his non-dom wife's assets from the UK tax office.

The UK government on Friday announced an independent review into the unrest that took place in the city of Leicester last year as community groups clashed in the wake of an India-Pakistan cricket match in Dubai.

UK Communities Secretary Michael Gove has commissioned the review under the chairmanship of Lord Ian Austin, former Minister for Housing and Planning and former Minister for the West Midlands.

His Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) said that in September 2022, community tensions led to a spate of vandalism, assaults, and attacks on places of worship and other properties in Leicester, in some cases highlighting divisions between different groups across the city and beyond.

The Indian government had raised the issue diplomatically at the time after a temple in the city was among the sites vandalised in the clashes, which resulted in several arrests. The clashes occurred in the wake of the India-Pakistan Asia Cup cricket match in Dubai at the end of August last year.

“Leicester has a proud history of community cohesion, which makes last year’s disorder all the more shocking and upsetting,” said Gove.

“This review will build a thorough understanding of the specific events that took place and what can be learned from them. I have spoken to both the Home Secretary [Suella Braverman] and the Mayor of Leicester to underline the importance of protecting all parts of the community in Leicester, and we will not tolerate attempts to foster division or violence among people or between religious groups,” he said.

Austin will lead an independent panel of experts, to be appointed in due course, to work on understanding the origins of the unrest and explore how similar events can be prevented in the future, both in Leicester and elsewhere.

“Acceptance of each other's background and beliefs is at the heart of our national identity. Communities living and working together have formed some of the most vibrant societies across the country and cities such as Leicester have proud histories of tolerance and diversity,” said Austin.

“This makes the scenes we witnessed in Leicester last year all the more worrying and it is therefore so important that we listen to people in Leicester to get to the bottom of what happened and why,” he said.

The government said the review panel would establish the facts of what took place over the period of unrest and a sequence of events; present an analysis of the causes of the unrest; make practical recommendations for how similar events that may arise in future could be prevented; and set out proposals and ideas for strengthening social cohesion locally.

“I hope the review can move forward as swiftly as possible, whilst, of course, being thorough and given the attention it deserves. I would want Leicester and other cities to be able to learn from its findings and to understand what needs to be done to ensure that our community cohesion is never again threatened in this way,” said Leicester City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby.

The timeline and further details of the independent review will be set out as the panel is appointed.

Ian Austin the islamaphobe. Yup really gonna be impartial this one. Even though we have all the evidence in videos and eye witnesses. Let's see if they speak to everybody not just the rss fanatics in the city..

Yep Lord Ian Austin was anti Jeremy Corbyn, a right wing Islamaphobe.

He has been put into deliver an outcome of RSS wanabees having no alliance with Modi RSS and were exercising their right to protest when violent Pakistanis broke the law and attacked them.

he Muslim Council of Britain has expressed “deep concern” over the appointment of the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Israel as the chair of a review into civil unrest between Muslims and Hindus in Leicester last year.

Lord Ian Austin has been appointed to chair the independent review, announced on Friday, into the unrest between British Pakistani Muslim and Indian Hindu communities that descended into widespread violence and vandalism, including attacks on places of worship.

He caused controversy in 2021 when he posted a tweet showing a fake new flavour for Ben and Jerry’s ice cream for people in Gaza, named “Hamas Terror Misu” after the company announced it would stop selling its products in Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Speaking on Wednesday, the Muslim Council – an umbrella organisation representing Muslim groups across the country, said it “expresses deep concern” over Lord Austin’s appointment and urged the Levelling Up Minister, Michael Gove, to reconsider.

The appointment of Lord Austin, given his divisive record and the serious allegations of Islamophobia against him, has created deep apprehension among Muslims and other communities in Leicester.

Muslim Council of Britain

In a statement, it said: “An independent review is an important step to address and understand the causes of last year’s unrest.

“However, it is crucial to have an independent reviewer who is impartial, fair, and capable of gaining the trust and confidence of all stakeholders.

“The appointment of Lord Austin, given his divisive record and the serious allegations of Islamophobia against him, has created deep apprehension among Muslims and other communities in Leicester.

“This casts doubts on his suitability to oversee a review aimed at building trust and harmony within our communities. Any such review led by Lord Austin will face questions about its credibility and legitimacy.

“We call upon the Secretary of State for Communities, Michael Gove, to reconsider the appointment of Lord Austin and select an independent reviewer who can command the confidence and support of the diverse communities in Leicester.

“We urge the government to act swiftly to ensure that the review is conducted in a manner that reflects the principles of fairness, justice, and unity that Leicester and its residents deserve.”

He had previously been Labour MP for Dudley North from 2005 until 2019, sitting as an independent for his last nine months as MP after resigning from the party due to what he claimed was a “culture of extremism, antisemitism and intolerance”.

He was nominated for a life peerage in 2020 and still sits as an independent in the House of Lords.

Speaking on Friday, he said: “Acceptance of each other’s background and beliefs is at the heart of our national identity.

“This makes the scenes we witnessed in Leicester last year all the more worrying and it is therefore so important that we listen to people in Leicester to get to the bottom of what happened and why.”

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) said that the review will be led by a panel of experts which once appointed will aim to understand the causes of the unrest and provide recommendations on how to improve relations between Muslim and Hindu communities.

The violence, which erupted last September, was sparked by a cricket match between India and Pakistan.

Officers from across the East and West Midlands, and horses from Thames Valley, were brought in to help deal with the unrest, with officers diverted from the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

At least 47 people were arrested.

Responding to the Muslim Council’s concerns, a DLUHC spokesperson said: “We are confident that this thorough, independent review will strengthen community cohesion in Leicester – a city with a proud history of tolerance and diversity.

“The independent panel of experts will hear from a wide range of people and voices from across the city and beyond, to get to the bottom of what happened and why.

“We will announce further details about the review shortly, including the names of the panel members who will support the chair in this important task.”

^Sadly the UK is not much different from Pakistani rulers, apart from outright abuse and arrest of innocent people ...in front of cameras.

The outcome will be peaceful Hindus came to protest within the law, violent Muslims attacked them.

There is another Indo-Pak clash just around the corner as Pakistan is set to face India once again in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 9th.

Is there any likelihood of the same events happening again after the 9th June game that we saw after India's humiliating defeat at the hands of Pakistan in Champions Trophy Final?

Everything is fair in Love, War and El Classico. Even some Pyjama League lovers have finally accepted the El Classico tag I have given to the India vs Pakistan rivalry. :kp :inti

Always found it funny when desis fight abroad over a cricket match being held in another country.
Imagine being an American walking into a brawl about a sport they have no clue about.

Why does it matter what an American would think about a game they have no clue about?

Brawl not the game. An American is going home after work and see hundreds of people fighting on the streets only to find out it’s about a game he has no clue about being played between two countries in asia is kinda funny.

Don’t worry. Americans fight all the time in the crowd after being a little drunk off cheap beer in the stands. Most commonly in baseball and NFL too i think. The former being cricket’s cousin which makes this scenario funnier.

Sad thing is it’s equivalent to fighting over IPL or PSL teams since all their sports are just the states Vs each other 💀
