What's new

I declare my retirement as a Cricket fan

That’s a non sequitur. I mean that cricket didn’t die for me as soon as Gatting took the Rand. There will always be new players to like.

You looked for nationalism in cricket, otherwise there were superior players than your robin smiths and frasers. Whey were the aussie cricketers not your heroes?

You’ve lost me. I support England, not Australia.

Err why are you leaving being a cricket fan just for this? Sachin has his opinion and being as famous as he is, he understands the need to ensure a BJP mob doesnt burn his house down. I dont think people realise what fascism can do to a society. he has made his choice, move on and enjoy the game not just the individual players. The game matters and players come and go. I hope you stay on this forum.

Kohli's tweet was most disappointing. It looked like he tweeted just for the sake of it. All these fake aggression on field but in real life just a softy. Hope Anderson has his number this series. :jimmy

Given his history its quite clear that Tendulkar isn't scared of the mob, in fact I bet he would jump at the chance to join this hypothetical mob and burn down the house of others.

Kangana Ranaut quoted Rohit Sharma's tweet and called the cricketers dhobi ke kutte something. The tweet was taken down by twitter.

This is what you get for becoming a puppet.

The cricketers reduced themselves to BJP's lapdogs and are being insulted and humiliated by not just the public but even fellow lapdogs of BJP like Kangana.

You know what shocks me the most is how many well educated Indians support the BJP government.

I mean it was understandablein 2014/2015 as they may have wanted change from the corruption issues of the congress government but has corruption being tackled in any meaningful way for the past 6 years ? I don’t know the answer for sure but doesn’t appear to be.

Right wing governments always play on people’s fears and emotions to get easy votes - this one has figured out a formula and might be a long time before they are voted out.

Hey btw freelance don’t worry about what your fav cricketer tweets - he probably just wants to stay popular with the public.

When is twitter taking down tweets of trolls attacking Ajay Devgan, Sunil Shetty, SRT etc for supporting govt? Twitter's selective bias and supporting leftists is known to all. Anyway, twitter will be banned in India very soon...already work in progress. India is already making its own version of twitter.

I am moved by the support and encouragement from fellow posters. Thank you all.

A rap on the knuckles from the self annointed thekedar of patriotism, Ms Ranaut.
Cant be half committed. The jingoistic ones will leave them far behind otherwise. A crude lesson for Sharma ji ka ladka

I do not know whether I am in the middle of a fascist regime, or in just the beginning of it or probably the end of a short affair but I know for sure that I stand in opposition of it and I am proud of this fact.

If so many educated Indian celebrities are supporting Modi, a man who has won 2 general election in record votes....he must be doing something right. Have you ever thought from that angle? I mean so many of them cant be wrong isn't it?

What's wrong?
Modi is our leader and BJP government is 100 times better than fake Gandhi's regime, that's why people elected Modi 2 times and he will win again and again..

So called Indian siculars need stress balls, they cant do anything other than barking.

Well if he’s that popular then he might as well declare himself prime minister for life and become a dictator.

In any case hes not much of a leader in any case - he’s quite timid and just follows and does what his party propagandists what him to do.

He’s nothing compared to say Vajpayee who speaked out and made bold decisions when he had to.

Educated people can be duped too, especially on cultural issues. A lot of educated people voted for Donald Trump, for a variety of reasons - the richer ones because just didn’t want to pay more taxes to help Government controlled programmes to help the less fortunate and the same happens that in the UK for the Tory party but they seem a bit sane compared to the rest of the loony right wing governments across the globe.

Educated in India doesn't mean that much. Many of them will be religious bigots and they support the BJP call to hindutva. Maybe that's what he's doing right.

Yeah that doesn’t surprise me, this is a form of fascism where the government can control narratives and push pro propaganda that suited them and ban or censor anything that doesn’t tow their lines.

Trust me, even if you support your current government you don’t want them to ban twitter, it will be costly to your democratic institutions in the long run.

‘Internal affairs?’: Punjab pacer Sandeep Sharma slams ‘logic’ behind Rihanna flak
Reacting to MEA's statement on the farmers' protest, Punjab pacer Sandeep Sharma wrote, "By this logic no one should care about each other because every situation is someone's internal affair."

https://indianexpress.com/article/s...ma-rihanna-mea-farmers-protest-tweet-7174318/

Sandeep Sharma, who plies his trade as a pacer for Sunrisers Hyderabad, voiced his support for Rihanna on Thursday after the international pop icon received flak on social media for tweeting about the ongoing farmers’ protest in India.

His comments came after the Ministry of External Affairs reacted sharply to tweets by Rihanna, teen climate activist Greta Thunberg and others on the protests.

Rihanna, who has 100 million followers on Twitter, on Tuesday posted, “Why aren’t we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest,” linking a CNN report.
The 27-year-old bowler, who has 109 IPL wickets in 92 matches, posted an image on Twitter but later deleted it. “By this logic no one should care about each other because every situation is someone’s internal affair,” read the caption.

“Many people, including the Indian External Affairs Ministry, have criticized the famous singer Rihanna for having supported the Indian farmers, saying it is the internal affair of India,” read the image.
“But by that logic, no one outside Germany should have criticized the persecution of the Jews in Germany during the Nazi era. By that logic, no one outside Pakistan should criticism the persecution of Ahmadis, Hindus, Sikhs, and Christians in Pakistan. By that logic no one outside India should criticize the lynching and other atrocities on Muslims in India, or the massacre of Sikhs in 1984.”

“By that logic nobody outside America should criticize racialism in several parts of America and bad treatment of blacks. By that logic no one outside China should criticize the persecution of the Uighur Muslim minority in China. By that logic no one outside South Africa should have condemned apartheid and denial of the right to vote to blacks in South Africa when apartheid was prevailing. By that logic no one outside Burma should have criticized the persecution of Rohingyas in Burma.”

“After all, these were internal affairs of those countries,” he concluded.

Irfan Pathan and Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary also tweeted regarding the issue.
Meanwhile, former India cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Anil Kumble, and Ravi Shastri have joined Bollywood superstars Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, and producer-director Karan Johar to support the government’s call on standing against “propaganda” regarding the ongoing farmers’ protest.

Thousands of farmers, mainly from Punjab and Haryana, have been camping at several Delhi border points since November last year, demanding the government to repeal the three farm laws and legal guarantee of MSP for their crops.

Sites of the farmer protest at Delhi’s borders have turned into fortresses with the police beefing up security and putting up multi-layer barricades.

If only the majority Hindu community had not turned their backs on the minorities like this.

Sad to see even Yuvraj Singh who is a Punjabi becoming a puppet for the BJP govt. Has not uttered a word in support of our farmers. Shame on you Yuvraj.

Same reason why so many rich right wing Tory donors still back boris Johnson, even stevie wonder can see he’s a rubbish leader. The rich get richer with people like this in power, the poor get poorer to the point they will snap as we can see with the farmers.

Biggest take away from this whole fiasco is that Punjab and Haryana have risen above GOI's divide and rule propaganda.

We are united and our brotherhood is stronger than ever before.

Huge thanks to people and farmers of Haryana for all their support whole lacs of Punjabis marched to Delhi.

For this, we Punjabis we always be indebted to you.

Think you know very little about India. Modi's approval rating is highest among all global leaders because majority of Indians suport him and his good governance. No one has taken of poor more than present regime - Jandhan Yojna, Ujala, Atal pension, Gramin Yojna, 100% electrification....list goes on and on. You know nothing about these farm bills either apart from watching some politically motivated Khalistani protests. So you are free to believe whatever but reality is very different.

Bollywood is one of the most secular organization and often even get criticized for it. So religious bigotry is the last reason why people support Modi. Think you are mixing India with some other religious nations.

People support Modi because they have seen the rule of Congress over the years. How remote control PM used to work and how India was a laughing stock across the world. From there to here we are today, world's largest vaccine provider for a global pandemic.

Most Indians take pride on the PM and the effort he puts in daily to make India a better nation. There was a time when bollywood stars or cricketers used to be the biggest star in India. But now there is no bigger celebrity than the PM himself. You dont get that respect by doing religious bigotry but it comes due to sincere effort and dedication.

Regime turning on protestors? Lol. Its actually the opposite. On 26th Jan these goons ran tractor over police, injured 300 policemen including lady officer etc. Yet not a single firing from police (which they should have in my view). So no one is picking on minorities but then again your knowledge on this topic is poor.

I've seen this lady office thing mentioned by you a few time and by many others specifically on SM, why is it so important to single that out?

Care to explain what exactly is their Problem with the new farm laws? No one else in the country had any issues with it.

How many journalists have been arrested, what happend to Modi’s insistence on freedom of speech, policeman may have been injured but protestors died, 100s are missing. You keep saying I have no knowledge of the issue but the beauty of looking from the outside is that you can see a whole 360 of the issues at hand, and let me tell you it’s not looking good.

One of the main gripes is the fact that thresholds have been removed and big corporations can effectively offer peanuts to farmers for stock , leading to a drive down in pricing and less revenue for the men on the ground while the big Corps profit

Farmers can always refuse to sell to these big corps who offer peanuts for their crop. The idea is to sell the produce at a price that the farmers can make profit. Sell it to the highest bidder and make more profit. Why give money to middle man who never did any hard work?

Freedom of speech and doing vandalism with tractors & swords are two very different thing. I mean no country will allow it. These farmers were protesting since last november but no one had any issues until 26 Jan when they decided to take law in their hand. Only 1 protestor died and that too when his own tractor overturned. Policemen shown tremendous restrain by not attacking them back even though 300 of their own policemen got injured. As far as looking the situation from outside is concerned, today US govt supported the Indian farm bills. So you need to improve your 360 degree view from outside and look at things in an impartial manner.

Do you really think the poor Indian farmer has access to a fair market. Do you know how big corps and price fixing works it’s basic economics designed to make the rich richer and the poor suffer. Farmers are rightly speaking out about it.

What have I said that isn’t impartial, you have validated the facts I have made and then made excuses for them. Us govt supported opening fire on protesters not to long ago as well so hardly surprising they would support

Previously, it was mandatory that the first sale of agri-product will be in the 'mandis'. As per the new bills, farmers will now be free to sell their produce even to private buyers, including big companies. Farm bills passed in the Indian parliament give farmers the freedom to sell their crop anywhere in India.

Tell me (with an imparital view) is it a good or bad thing?

Doesn't matter whether you support farm laws or not.

This episode is clearly showing who are slaves and who are free men.

Mad respect for Manoj Tiwari and Irfan Pathan.

They ain't tweeting their actual views but what they tweeted was the absolute truth.

Current GoI has got to be the dumbest organisation in the world.

What a PR fiasco.

While it may not amount to much yet, there will come a time when the dam breaks and once it does, there will be no stopping it.

As I mentioned during the Feb riots, the nation is split into 2 divisions and it's an all out war.

One side is going to prevail in the end and it ain't gonna end pretty for the other folks.

As I stated above can you tell me with a straight face a poor Indian farmer will now have access to a “free” market or is it more likely the big Corps will come together and fix prices to drive their them down, the farmer does not have to accept but when he has got no choice what do you expect them to do.

What is more likely from an impartial point of view.

Actually I didnt validate anything you said...are you even reading? :))

You said...regime is turning on against minorities. Which is not the case as it was protestors who attacked the regime on 26th Jan.

Then you said, Modi is curbing freedom of speech. How is attacking policemen with swords freedom of speech?

You said protestor(s) died on the riot too. The fact is only 1 guy died and that too when his own tractor overturned. Rajdeep Sardesai even got fired from job when he tried to peddle false agenda on this infamous death.

Then you said, from outside Indian govt is looking bad. But today only US govt (Biden govt) supported farmer bills and said it will be benericial for the economy.

And then you are saying your views aren't impartial. Bruv :))

One part of me feels sorry for these cricketers.

These current cricketers may have been forced to tweet (indirect pressure) and you do it to protect your livelihood.

But then all didn't.

Can anyone list out who didn't do it?

Since the issue is a localized one restricted more towards haryana, punjab and UP..... I'll consider the views of rest of the states too. Just because there's a protest, that doesn't mean every farmer across India is indeed protesting.

If the movement can't bring these other farmers into equation, then it basically will remain what it is.... A few states demanding special amendments where as other majority of the states has no such objection.

In this scenario, it's clear what govt will do.

Please go on BBC news website and see how many reporters have been arrested, this is freedom of speech being curtailed, do you agree or not?

Turn on the news and you see protestors and police clashing regularly, smacking innocent protestors with batons etc, is this peaceful?

Don’t worry about joe Biden, you got Delhi police issuing fatwas again RIHANNA and GRETA THURNBERG do you think the Indian regime is looking good.

:))

Ofcourse farmers will have more access to free market. As per older laws and provisions, farmers have to sell their produce at APMCs. It was mandatory that the first sale of agri-produce took place in the market yard of the 'mandis'. Now farmers are free to sell their product to anyone they wish - private buyers, multinational companies etc without any middlemen. Its a fantastic bill which will benefit everyone immensly.

Do you even read the statements of some of your ministers like Yogi Adityanath? Even if we try to pretend Modi's rise to power on the back of the Gujarat riots is a thing of the past, his ministers today are still spouting RSS slogans.

Like I said, it's not a judgement, not sure why 'educated' Indians still need to pretend Modi's appeal is based on economic reforms. Why are you ashamed to back his hindutva policies openly?

Please check a channel on youtube that goes by "Cobrapost".

In a nutshell it was a sting operation where the agents met with celebrities and asked them to tweet a message directly from BJP for money in return. I would absolutely not be surprised if there is a twitter payroll in BJP for these celebs.

Eitherway to be a mouthpiece for someone else in your own personal space (i.e. personal twitter handles) is utterly shameful.

Do you think the middle men are offering the farmers fair price? They have been looting the hard work of the farmers by offering them lower prices than what it should have been. Market determines the price of the commodity and it should. Not some lame middleman who is nothing but a blood sucker and parasite on farmers.

Multi millionares like Virat Kohli, Sachin are on BJP payroll? Do you even think before you type? These guys earn millions just by doing a 30 second ad on tv. They do not need a few lakh rupees from BJP. Its peanuts for them.

Brutal :))

This is the reality of seculars and pappu media and their propaganda.

The Farmers protests eerily reminds me of protests in 90's from all urban office workers against computerization. They were scared that they will lose their jobs and computers will take over everything. Funnily Congress and Narasimha Rao Government was ruling at that time they computerized everything even after all the protests countrywide.

There was at least some sort of benchmark that middlemen worked towards, now it’s an open market free for all where farmers are going to be forced to sell to multi national Corps who are going to drive the prices down so low , even worse than blood sucking parasites. On paper the reforms may have some benefits to farmers but for the men on the ground the reality couldn’t be further from this.

They can always refuse to sell if someone offers them peanuts. This is the same system in USA or any other country. The entire India has no problem with this. Not one farmer is protesting in South India. So only Punjabi and Haryanvi farmers are scared.

I fully support anyone protesting peacefully. Its their right. But vandalizing and trampling police under tractors is not acceptable.

TBH i thought Kohlis tweet was way better than Sachins. He kept it very diplomatic.

There's always a risk when implementing something new to the system as one can not predict the future exploitations. But that doesn't mean one should go with the existing flaws in the system.

It brings to the same case of computerization. People were scared that with the help of computers, the requirement of posts will be lowered and unemployment will increase. After 30 years, what we see is, the system adapt to it which made the work faster but without the expanse of cutting employees.

Religious reforms also come with backlashes from the sections of the community. It doesn't mean we should not implement them. There will be always someone who will be at disadvantage. But if majority follows it, I don't think the other options should be considered. And here in this protest, except 2-3 states, the rest have no objection.

Should govt listen to the 2-3 states or the rest of the pack?

Far left have crept into Indian politics too. Anything that BJP does must be protested and a big hungama needs to be made.

I see that these protests have turned into anti-sikh propaganda. Government is out to get Sikhs and committing genocide and what not.

It ain't about localized or national issue.

Issue is how the govt has dealt with it.

One has to be terribly stupid to do propaganda using IT cell while appearing to engage in dialogues.

Also this tussle started months before the farmers even reached Delhi.

Cricketers using the word "amicable" and copy pasting similar messages is just sad and cringeworthy.

And funny part is that BJP thinks they are being smart lol.

Right now, due to Modi, every blunder will be hidden.

BUt there will come a time when it will be one too many blunders.

Already many are against BJP and they will all unite.

Attacking leftists, sicuklars, pappu, congress...this is giving me pre 2014 Congress vibes.

Just that there isnt a decent opposition leader, BJP looks invincible.

The moment someone emerges, the game is gonna tilt fast.

Pressure due to what? In which way is Virat Kohli's livelihood determined by BJP? Do you think big corps will shun Kohli and Sachin because they did not favor BJP's agenda?

Its soft pressure.

I am pretty sure all the cricketers using the same terminology and tweeting the same is just a coincidence. :)

Cricketers saying that the issue needs to be resolved by sitting and discussing is wrong? You know that if someone like Sachin tweets, the rest will follow to give their opinion.

These guys could have easily kept quiet. But they decided to voice their opinion and asked for an amicable solution. I don't see anything wrong with it. They never said that Farmers are wrong or BJP is great and Congress is a dirty party.

Just checked Twitter. Sachin is trending and there is a ton of abuse going his way.

How the mighty has fallen.

Never thought i would see this day. I feel so bad to see him getting all this abuse.

Why did you do it Sachin?

You were the chosen one!

Sachin didn't tweet anything wrong to get the hate, you are over reacting bhaijaan. He just said farmers protest is India's internal matter. Its the same thing even Rahul Gandhi said yesterday when he was asked about Rihana's tweet.

Yeah all of the celebs across the fields coming up with tweets with similar words doesnt seem at all strange. Right after the MEA comes up with a hashtag all of them jump on it.

I mean cmon Akshay and Saina basically had the same words stuck in their heads when they wanted to speak on the issue..and I mean verbatim. Yeah they could have easily have kept quite..lol

So if the tweet doesn’t suit our thought process he is not our hero?
A Very BJP logic..
