There have been very few bowlers who have troubled Virat Kohli on a consistent basis. He has fallen to James Anderson five times in Tests, four of those in English conditions on a forgettable 2014 tour for the world’s No.2 ranked Test batsman.

Last year, Nathan Coulter-Nile caused Kohli plenty of trouble with his wicket three times in the ODI series in September-October 2017.

The Indian captain has even said Mohammad Amir worries him most when he’s at the crease.

And now, Rumman Raees, the 26-year-old left-arm pacer from Pakistan, hopes to outfox Kohli whenever an opportunity arises.

“I still haven’t bowled to Steve Smith, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. But I have bowled to Kane Williamson. It’s very difficult to get him out. He has a very compact technique. But I managed to get him out four times. And then you have Hashim Amla, one of the greatest of all-time. It was a good learning curve bowling to him.

“I’m not here to issue a challenge but I hope to get the better of Kohli, Smith and AB de Villiers whenever I get a chance to bowl to them. It would be a great feeling,” Raees, who has played nine ODIs and eight T20 internationals, said in an interview.

All about Test cricket

Recently, Adil Rashid (30) and Alex Hales (29) became the first England players to turn their back on first-class cricket after signing a white-ball only deal with their respective clubs. This also gives them a chance to participate in various T20 competitions.

It’s understandable that big money is involved in such leagues and Rashid and Hales’ decision could well become a trend in years to come.

Asked if he would travel the same path in future, Raees -- who is relatively new to international cricket -- said he prefers the limited-overs format but is adamant to play Test cricket for a long time.

“There’s a lot of cricket played now. The demand of ODI and T20 cricket has increased,” he said.

“But for me, Test cricket is the ultimate format. I personally want to play all three formats. I am a part of the ODI and T20 setup. For Tests, I’ll have to work my fitness a lot more, work on my pace and then only I’ll stand a chance to get selected.”

Asked how big a role the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has played in shaping up his career, Raees said:

“It has been a magnificent experience. I got selected in the Pakistan team because of PSL. Viewers get to see some quality cricket. It is a well-disciplined league.

“Playing in PSL has helped me deal with pressure. I feel a lot more composed at the international stage now. Plus the experience of senior pros helps a lot,” Raees, who took 2/44 in his ODI debut for Pakistan against England in the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy, added.

Asked how he sees the competition in Pakistan’s pace attack, Raees said, “We have six left-armers including myself (Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz and Usman Khan Shinwari). And then we have Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf. You need to respect the competition. It’s all about performing to the best of your ability.”

I personally don't think he should worry about Wahab and Irfan. Hopefully these two are finished from the team. With that being said I wouldn't be surprised to see them back in the T20I team very soon.

Take a few wickets and you suddenly start talking about getting the better of world-class batsmen.

Come on man, don't get ahead of yourself.

I can appreciate some confidence from an overall smart thinking cricketer. Glad to hear his thoughts on tests despite his success in limited overs cricket.

On one side few PP fans do not consider Kohli even a good batsman as he could not do well in CT final and in ENG in tests, and on other side he is a precious wicket for Pak bowlers according to pak cricketers. Whom should we believe???

The bold part is false therefore the rest of your question is redundant.

Its called ambition and desire, otherwise you would be stuck in the domestic circuit averaging 16 - 25 taking wickets of every lalloo and panjoo on green surfaces.

Also what was he supposed to say? I will bend over backwards whenever world class batsmen are at the crease? Btw he did say "“I’m not here to issue a challenge but I hope to get the better of Kohli, Smith and AB de Villiers whenever I get a chance to bowl to them. It would be a great feeling,”

It's good to see that he has confidence . But he should concentrate on cementing his place in the team before issuing challenges to Kohli,AB,and Smith.

He is overweight and not losing it but still talking about test cricket.

He was much more overweight 2 years ago when they used to call him "Rumman Rice" but after getting advice from Wasim, he buckled down, shed the pounds and did some really hard work. The results are there for all to see. However I don't think he is Test material as he depends a lot upon variations which won't be as effective in the longer format.

Did you even read the article.

He should just concentrate on cementing his place in the team rather than worry about this stuff especially when he isn't due to face these players for a while.

This thread will probably be bumped if he gets hammered by any of 3.

Don't forget to get the better of Root, Warner, Williamson, Taylor, Rohit, Dhawan, and others..

Which he is doing really well. Depends on what question he was asked to evoke such an answer. The media is really sly at asking such leading questions and then putting words into players mouths.

One man has done it before him. Sohail Khan.
He got Kholi and AB out in the WC,
Kane, Root, Smith, in Test series.

No trundler they will eat you alive. He is just having a good time while bowling to poor batsmen. Even in nz series be was taken to the cleaners his economy was around 7 I think in odi series. He should not play for national team. Not good enough

Sohail Khan said the same thing a few years ago and now he's a World Class player.....'Hoga Apnay Ghar ka......:sk'

Waiting for Ruman to take World Cricket by Storm now :rumman

He said he hopes...thats his wish... his wish is to get these prized wickets in his kitty...it's ok to wish for things.. it means you have some ambition :D.

Work hard chap! You might achieve it in future

one serious question for all pakistan players...

Why they always do prior talk's, rather then make it happen and leave it for people to decide wether they are superior or not.

Tipical culture of premature talking as always..
Guys take it easy, if you have ability, it will do the talking for you.

Totally sounds like, you want to defend his statement.

Mate you dont want to promote this kind of culture in you dressing room. It will eventually affect young player as well. Not Good for your Cricket

Media asks questions in a way that replies like this come out. PCB should give training on how to handle media.

Once he faces media more, he'll know what to talk and what NOT to talk.

To be fair, I don't see anything wrong with his statement.

Shame if anyone feels nothing wrong with such premature talks,

THIS type of things should be avoided by Professional Players even if media try to put word in your mouth by asking such questions. And i am Sure in pakistan also Most of the people wont prompt these things..

Our players should be banned for delivering any statement. This is the problem of Bangladesh and Pakistan players. Few decent performances and they became Kohli, Tendulkar, Steyn, Wasim.... by our formers. How often players from other countries give so many statements? Completely agree with Saj

We don't See Smith, Williamson, Root, Kohli, Warner or any other making this types of statement,
I don't remember any such statements from any of them that they will score easy run of particular bowlers.

Instead if media try to trick them with such question they just pass it with positive comment on bowlers saying they good, and its competitive to play againts them.

PCB should introduce hefty fine and ban couple of matches

People are overreacting as usual here. There is nothing wrong in what he said.He didn’t say ‘I will get them out’ or ‘I will doninate them’.He simply said ‘I hope to get them out’.He is showing ambition and aspiring to be a good bowler and there is nothing wrong in that.

Mate you are taking it lightly😂😂😂, and not people overreacting over it

Some fans are too soft. Nothing wrong in what he said. He is actually giving them respect. His statement is much better than Sohail Khan's 'hoga apne ghar ka kohli'. :inti

Let's hope his injury isn't bad cos it looked quite serious

Ha ha, and that too in the mediocre phase of his career. He could have been a world class bowler, but not sure what went wrong, had the tools, and even domestic statistics backed him up.

He was unlucky to play early on against SL on an absolute flat track. He got denied an LBW against Mahela and was pounced on. Than he was discarded... until 2015. He focuses too much on muscle and lost his ability to bowl long Ironman spells. Still, every time he has gotten a chance, be it ODI or Test, he has outperformed all others. His 65 against Australia showed what a beast he could have been. Perfect new ball bowler, 6 ft 5, well-built, good with reverse swing, hard hitting lower order batsman, and a hardworking guy overall. Another victim of the dreadful Afridi-Misbah era. Good looking chap too, could have been a real superstar had he been brought back in 2011-2012 and not 2015 and than in and out before being dropped.
