That would be atrocious. Umpires would mostly not take the review.

Cricket rule says - a bats man is out, if he is adjudicated out by umpires, bowlers will plead & umpires will give their verdict based on the judgement with in law. For Bowled & Catches Umpire's intervention isn't required because it's obvious. But still, umpires can check the foot-fault & can call the batsman back.

In that regard, ideally, DRS shouldn't even be there - whatever Umpires give in "good faith & without negligence" should be accepted. But, DRS was introduced to eradicate umpiring mistakes, not to save/give a player out.

It's about bringing efficiency & fairness in the judgement. Do you think, in current system it's happening? Hales himself wasn't sure, but he had the option so he took a chance. Jhonny survived on 2nd ball of the match by half a cm & for 49'4 balls, PAK don't have any review. Had umpires given that LBW, I am 100% sure JB would have reviewed - Poms would have lost their only review & Hales would have been walking on what was a ball pitched out side leg and PAK would have been at commanding 37/2 situation.

At present state, DRS is worse to have - it brings more frustration than a howler. If you give it to Umpires - still he'll take most decision on field, but he'll check few with his 3rd umpire on particular issues. Now, they are going full cycle for every review - ideally, if it was with umpire, they probably would have asked just 2 question for those 2 cases -
1. pls check, if it's hitting in line or not - I am sure about the other 2
2. pls check, if it's on line or out side, I am sure about other 2

It would have been still 1 down, but the correct batsman would have been walking .......... because I am sure every umpire would have given Johny out on review, on what was a perfect LBW - you don't need 51% of a ball to dislodge one bail.
