Honestly, that's the key and with how Fakhar plays it's a bit of a gamble. He wasn't timing it all the well in the last game but was still hitting it hard so he plays very risky. If he does get to a quick 50-60 then we have a good base for the likes of Azhar/Azam to settle in.

Apart from Fakhar's quickfire runs, Babar Azam is the other key wicket for India. He always has a big innings i him.

My dark horse for this match however is going to be Shoaib Malik. Against India, I always fancy him to do well.

Yeah. Damaadji has given the obligatory gift to sasuraal in the 1st match. If he comes to the crease in balanced situation, like pakistan needing 150 from 20-25 over, i'd expect him to take you over the line ..

Chasing 300 is beyond us

For setting 300 Fakhar has to come of and Babar has to score

Sorry but you had lost me when you said Hafeez is a "big match player who will flourish under pressure"....

The way Bumrah and Bhuvvy are bowling, Malik wont last long. He has severe issues against Good fast bowling

He was looking very good in the last game against India. Malik is Malik but against India he does quite well.

Looking and good for few balls so what? He can't even play Malinga's short ball at 130 kph

Malik is a nobody against decent pace

That's not true. He struggles against short balls and good pace bowling but India's pace bowling is nothing special.

Fakhar Zaman - He is the type of Modern Day bat we need at the top of the order makes great use of the power play. If he can play for 20/25 overs he will most probably end up with a hundred.

Babar Azam - He has been our best ODI batsman and hold our middle order together he will need to bat till the end.

Sarfraz Ahmed - Has done well in England and will need to play and aggressive knock if we are to post or chase a big total.

LOL what's not true? You yourself agree he is very bad against good pace and Bhuvvi and Specially Bumrah are definitely very fine pace bowlers as of now

was. Now its pretty good. Malik used to do well against India in the old days of 05-09. Done nothing since.

Reading the comments and all the negativity!

We scored 215/2 in 37 Overs against England on a slowish wicket. Then there are people sayin scoring 300 is beyond us. The world will see what Pakistan is capable of on Sunday!

Play all the fast bowlers available in the final

Pak team can not beat India with spinners.. Indian players are great players of spin.. the fast accurate bowling and bouncing them out will be the only way to win this match.

Pak should play

Fahim
Aamir
Raeese
Junid
Hasan Ali

If spin is needed hafeez/Malik can bowl but going with shadab/imad and leaving one of the fast bowlers out will be a huge mistake!!

No it would make attack a bit one dimmensional.

I would be happy with either of these changes.

Scenario I:-
Amir in for Imad. Pros of this change is an immensely strong pace attack

Scenario II:-
Amir in for Raees, Fahim in for Imad/Shadab

Malik is not a dark horse against India but a known proven threat. He always shows up to the party when the in laws are in town.

I would not make any change that would weaken the batting.

1. Fahim for Shadab

If Amir Is fit, he can come in for Raees

Only chance we have is if it starts to seriously reverse and we remove their openers + kholi cheaply

If we were playing in Cardiff then we may have had a slight chance but India batting on what is going to be one of the hottest days of the year is going to be too much for us

there is thing called overrate in cricket

FROM SPINNERS

there is breather for the fast bowlers and also captain are less worried about overrate due to spinners

finishing over quickly

Sarfraz was struggling with the overrate when he plays fahim so bad idea sarfraz will struggle to

Complete overs in time

We will need at least 3-4 batsmen to fire, if we are to post something big.

I except these players to score big:

Fakhar Zaman
Sarfraz Ahmed
Babar Azam
Shoaib Malik

Fakhar, Malik and Babar. Hafeez and Azhar may also chip in with their contribution.

India can load their side with Umesh Shami Burma Buvi and run riot if your batting is fragile. Indians love pace bowlers more than spin

I think if we do chase 300+ in my eyes it can only come from a partnership from Malik and Sarfraz. They're the one's that chased a 300+ total against England for the first time in Pak history. :sarf

We HAVE to find a way to play Rumman Raees against India!

Seeing the way he performed on his debut in a high pressure game against England, hes a must against India. I am not too sure who we should drop to let Amir back in the side. I guess we could drop either Hafeez or Imad. Their bowling wont be effective against this Indian line up anyway.
I would go with this side

Azhar
Fakhar
Babar
Malik
Sarfraz
Hafeez/Imad
Shadab
Amir
Hasan
Rumman
Junaid

Why not get in Fahim. I like Rumman, But I feel he should take Junaid's place sooner or later.

Just saw a clip of ganguly and harbhajan talking about the final. Such arrogance. Saying it WILL be a one sided indian win. Ganguly said, "Dum hi nahi hai in mai".

he said that about the bangladeshi batsman

People who are advising the omission of Junaid Khan should stop watching cricket for the better future of Pakistan.

I highly doubt Harris will get a game now, which is sad.

So given the probables, this team can challenge India:

1. Azhar Ali
2. Fakhar Zaman
3. Babar Azam
4. Mohammad Hafeez
5. Shoaib Malik
6. Sarfraz Ahmed*
7. Imad Wasim
8. Mohammad Amir
9. Hassan Ali
10. Rumman Raees
11. Junaid Khan

4 fast bowlers can trouble India, all in form.

Only drawback is the brittle batting line up, tail enders up to Hasan Ali can play, don't know about the rest.

It is a sort of line up which can go from 150/0 to 170/8 lol

Just curious, what win would you guys choose if given the choice?

Champions trophy win or another world t20 win?

Yep, but if Pakistan play a spinner we will murder them on the flat oval pitch, Shadab will be taken to the cleaners.

A sensible approach would be to replace Imad for Haris to strengthen the batting but I doubt that will happen.

Batting will remain brittle, no matter if you play Haris, Shehzad and Faheem in place of Junaid, Hasan and Amir. Forget about batting and don't compromise bowling at Pretext of strengthening the batting.

I think you have got the Playing XI right.

At this moment, Amir's batting is probably more valuable to Pakistan than his mediocre bowling. If it was me, I'd keep Rumman in the side at Amir's expense and bring in Fahim for Imad. Imad will do okay against other sides but won't bring anything to the table against a batting powerhouse like India.

What have some posters here got against Malik for crying out loud? The guy got run out against India when he was batting decently, put us ahead of DL against SA with his batting and a big reason why we wont that match, failed against SL and didn't bat against Eng. He's had one failure so far. He's a transformed player been our best batsman along with Sarfraz after 2015 WC. Give it a rest already.

These same people would give an automatic entry to Amir in the team, not realizing he's not the bowler he once was.

This is the first face off between India and Pakistan in a finals , multi nation 50 overs ODI format ..since 1985 in Melbourne ...after 32 long years

Same boasting by former Indian players. No excuses this time you have to win this.
#No mercy

Wrong strategy to play so many bowlers on a batting pitch.

1. Fakhar Zaman
2. Azhar Ali
3. Babar Azam
4. Mohammad Hafeez
5. Shoaib Malik
6. Sarfraz Ahmed
7. Faheem Ashraf
8. Imad Wasim

9. Mohammad Amir
10. Hasan Ali
11. Junaid Khan

8 batsmen. Now that's what you call a team. Full bowlers in Amir, Junaid, Hasan, Imad. Split between Faheem and Hafeez.

We need Fahim, Amir and Shadab on Sunday.

Fahim: His batting power hitting can be very important in death, if needed. Plus you don't play extra spinner, but extra seamer against India.

Shahab: He is wicket taker, deceived Indians on 4th as well. If we had held catches of Yvi, Kohli, things would have been different. Where as Immad is no threat what so ever to Indian. I am afraid, some how Immad is considered automatic selection, when he is weakest player among Shahab/Fahim/Immad, others have one skill which is special, he is purely bits and pieces.

Amir: Amir is our main bowler for year and half, even if he is not picking wickets, he creates pressure for others to take wickets. He also bowled very good death bowling in last two, with significant reverse swing, remember that Yorker to Miller? - Plus his batting means, if we bat first, Amir, Hasan, Fahim will help us go 300+, lower order cannot be complete dud.

Nothing else can be really changed at this point.

Jadhav and Ashwin :))

Ashwin's bullet would go at a snail's pace, the enemy could reach Kanyakumari by the time it hits him. Rightfully left out. Hope we get in fast and furious Umesh to fire on Pakistan. Jadhav uncle went all cylinders against Bangladesh. He must be busy chalking out plans for his men to go at Pakistan.

If someone hasn't bowled now, they won't bowl in the final. That goes for Malik, Fakhar. I'd not play Imad after he was tonked for 9.1-0-66-0 in his first game vs India. I know his last over went for 23, but he didn't look threatening at all. I'd definitely play Faheem for him, and Amir for Rumman.

I am telling you guys who think we should have 6 bowlers, our batting is major cause of concern. If lose we would lose because of batting not bowling. I would go with Imad out and Haaris in.

My team:

1. Fakhar Zaman
2. Azhar Ali
3. Babar Azam
4. Haaris Sohail
5. Mohammad Hafeez
6. Shoaib Malik
7. Sarfraz Ahmed
8. Shadab Khan

perfect man only shadab replace by fheem if bowling pitch

If Haris hasn't played throughout the whole tournament, I'll doubt he'll play in the final.

Why is everyone so keen on playing Shadab? A legspinner against India on a batting pitch?

Unless Imad can bat but he is well out of form with bat therefore I would replace him with a proper batsman.

Had a dream we were knocked over for 96 and India chased it with 4 wickets down, Yuvraj hitting the winning runs. :(

MMHS your pak line up for the Oval game and should they bat or bowl first ?

Playing a legspinner against India on any type of track of a recipe for disaster. Indian batsmen struggle more against off-spin and you have Hafeez in the team. No brainer really. Amir and Fahim should come in for Imad and Shadab.
