DWL does help the NRR situation for a revised target, but not for such cases when match is stopped for good.

If I take PAK's revised target for 40 overs, it'll be around 200 - so the NRR impact in +0.80 (219 in 50 vs 200 in 40 or less). But, if the match is stopped now, PAK wins but NRR impact is minimum (219/50 vs 119/27) And the volume of run is half, so, it won't pull that 129 runs deficit much.

Any way, PAK won't ever make the cut on NRR after losing 1st match by 129, because SAF also knows the the equation & SRL won't make it 170 runs or 25 overs comfortable win for PAK.

If India lose both games they will be out if we beat Sri Lanka as along with us, South Africa will be on four points.

Fine, but in that case is the tie-breaker on wins or NRR?

What is the forecast for Ind-SL ?
The way it has been for last week, every match has an outside chance of getting rained out.

and for that matter, what's the forecast for Ind-SA ?

If match is stopped here .. I calculated that our net run rate will be -1.72.

Am disappointed with the rain, it takes away our chance to improve the RR and top the group

They may take too many overs especially if a wicket falls. Honestly, I'll take a D/L win at this stage and worry about the RR later.

Very bad - high chance that the match will be washed out, unless it improves over night.

Pak are going to win this match.

We are going to beat SL by a healthy margin.

SA and SL will beat India.

Pak and SA advance to the semis.

Why would Pakistan's target be only reduced by 20 runs (from 220 to 200 according to you) if the number of overs is reduced by 10, and that too after 27 have already been bowled?
I was under the impression that if the overs are reduced during the course of the 2nd innings, it favours the batting team as long as they haven't lost too many wickets when the break in play occurred?

That's for an example .........

Guys they are not going back on the field.

It's sill raining and they need to dry up the outfield before any play begins when the umpires give the green light.

Pakistan have won this one, on to the next one.

I also thought up this possibility lol. Just imagine the public fall-out in India if against all expectation that happens.

shaz619 & Red Devil - can I please bring your attention to this prediction which was made before the game even started

Pakistan did restrict SA to round about 200-210 alhumdullilah

We are on track to chase down the target with 3-4 wickets down alhumdullilah

At the rate we were going (RR of over 6 in the last 5 overs) we would have gotten there by around the 41st over In-Shaa-Allah

The rain arrived at 8pm, however, alhumdullilah it's looking like it wa sunable to save SA

Now that's what you call a prediction :)) a complete fluke :afridi

9.00pm Word from George Dobell at Edgbaston: "Umpires talking to groundstaff now. Rain did stop for a while, but looks as if it has restarted. Only takes 20 minutes to remove covers but how fit it will be.... more play isn't impossible, but is unlikely."

Talha the psychic! :))

If there is no more play then Fakhar has won it for us. Is quick fire start was the difference in the match. Junaid replacing the terrible Wahab was also crucial. I dread to think what would had happened had Wahab been fit.

near the victroy. pak deserve that after a good bowling ,feilding, captency...

HOW WOULD Pakistan's ranking be impacted by the win against NO 1 ranked side

I'm sure we will gain some points.

I remember checking after the India game and it suggested that as results went as you would expect them to go, but somehow Pakistan managed to beat SA and SL we would go up to Number 6 Inshallah :)

Pakistan to be declared winner of the match anytime Now, it has been confirmed that no more play possible.

Just few minutes.

Umpires out in the middle! Looks like rain has stopped. Update coming soon

Imad Wasim Quote at the end of SA innings ""We're a great fielding side, I don't know what happened in the last game. Today we showed we're a good fielding unit."

I like his belief.

if pakistan win this game, their is 100 percent chance that they will go for the same sqaud agaisnt sri lanka, but id like to see Haris Sohail come in

Let's celibrate the win with this gem

uh-oh...rain is stopping
knowing the pakistani team's mindset (just like melbourne last day) they were probably hoping not to come back to bat.....an that complacency cost them

Done a bit of maths

If we are out there by 9:40 we have 46 minutes left
That equates to 12 overs meaning if 4.40 current pak rate is timesed by 11 that equals 48 this means 101-48 equals 53

Pakistan would need to chase 53 in 12 overs

If tomorrow's match is washed out or sl beat India, all park will have to do is beat sl to qualify for semi. That would be a great achievement after being down and out after India game. That why I like ICC tournaments. Other matches are also important and affect your team's chance to qualify for next round.

9.20pm Firdose says it "looks almost almost almost as though it has stopped", and that what remains are only "little drops". "Tiny," she clarifies. Still, even if those tiny drops do cease entirely, there's the question of all the sopping that remains to be done. Cut-off time is just over an hour away.
Is it just the square and run-ups that are covered or is the whole of the playing area covered? Either way, considering the amount of rain that has fallen, even if they move like lightning, it will take more that 30+ minutes to get the covers off and be ready to play.

Even at the very best, they won't have more that half an hour or so before cut-off time, meaning 6 or 7 overs at most.

Can't see Pakistan losing.

^^^ to add

More news, from the statistician Mazher Arshad. "To restart match we need at least 3 ovs (in which Pak will need 7 runs)," he tweets. "Pak won't bat if its less than 3 ovs cos target is already achieved."
9.30pm We have under an hour to go for cut-off time, and it's still drizzling at Edgbaston.

Pretty sure we would have been 6-7 out had it not been for Babar and Hafeez parterniship they did well and Babar was getting in his grove just before the rain

Come on you can't be serious... It was good??...??.....?.....?...............?

Under Anne hour to go until the cut off time and it's still drizzling according to cricinfo

I'm guessing they need at least 30-40 mins to mop things up so if rain doesn't stop by 9:50-9:55ish I'm guessing that will be the end of the game

But the gulf of class between < 5 and top 5 is huge. We could beat SA 1/5 games, and this was that game.

Not complaining though! :))

I'll take all the points we can get at this stage man and get into the World Cup without any hiccups In-Shaa-Allah :)

not really.

"9.40pm It's still drizzling, but the Super Soppers continue to prowl the covers and the outfield, to minimise the damage. Firdose, however, says the rain might be "perhaps harder now".

Congrats shaz619, Red Devil, all those fans who believed & even all the wrist skitters who didn't believe!!
