Crucial Pakistan v India encounter today as we kick off proceedings in Group 2

Pakistan need to beat the Netherlands and Zimbabwe by a margin to have a chance the momentum has gone with Babar and Rizwan consistently failing in big games nine times out of ten the fast bowlers especially are the main hope now.

So Ind vs SA match becomes irrelevant for Pakistan. Am I correct?

[T20 World Cup 2022] Group 2 qualification scenarios

As of now on 24th Oct

Pakistan : Win all 4 remaining games.

India : Beat Zimbabwe, Netherlands and Bangladesh (can afford to lose against South Africa)

South Africa : Beat Netherlands, Bangladesh and Pakistan (can afford a loss against India)

Unless some upsets occur, these are the major equations for now.

No disrespect to Bangladesh but unless they beat one of Pak/SA/IND it is a bit difficult for them.

:)) this is why i loved world t20 2021 and 2007. No scenarios, we did well and got in.

But the scenario threads is what we all grew up with so we are used to it. So thank you OP for clearing things up for us :))

Oh man an upset with South Africa or India would make the things more fun.

Too early to make this thread - especially with the threat of rain looming over many games.

So Ind vs SA match becomes irrelevant for Pakistan. Am I correct?

Depends on other results. Assuming the top 3 sides beat all the minnows , then yes. PAK vs SA is a virtual knockout. India vs SA won't matter

How so?

We can still be in a right spot if we narrowly beat SAF and SAF hammer India in the other game

The Pakistan vs Sri Lanka game in the 2019 ODI WC was washed out where both teams ended up sharing a point. Pakistan would have fancied their chances against Sri Lanka considering the form they were in. Not getting 2 points from that game ultimately cost Pakistan a spot in the Semi's.

Too early to discuss scenarios considering how much rain has been interfering.

A lot can happen.

Doesn't matter. SA will still have 1 point less than Pakistan because of today. SA have to beat Pakistan no matter what

Can anyone make weather watch thread for rest of the Pakistan matches please?

How does the South Africa tie with Zimbabwe affects team Pakistan's qualification to the semis?

South Africa who were clearly going to win the match against Zimbabwe have been dealt a bad hand by fate. With Pakistan losing a very well fought out game against India does it make Pakistan's chances of qualifying to the semis easier?

What other upsets do you foresee in group b?

Yup simply put regardless of whatever else happens if pakistan wins all of their 4 matches we qualify.

Its simple, Pakistan needs to win the remaining 4 matches.

Just don't see them winning 4 on the trot in Australia. we did it in UAE cos of familiar conditions. Babar's obsession with batting second will haunt us in one of these matches

Many people are taking it for granted. Pakistan's chances are slim. South Africa in these conditions will be a tough test.

SA are chokers also. Will be a chokefest in our match.

Whoever goes through with India is a sacrificial lamb in the Semis anyway. Pakistan and SA cannot win pressure games.

Seriously ?

When was the last time india won icc tournament ?
2013

When proteas last won icc tournament ?
1998

And Pakistan
2017.

T20 matches are always exaggerated closed encounters due to it’s nature.

Pakistan has also won some close matches as well or held out atleast

V

Nzl 2019
Afghanistan 2019/21/22
Nzl 2021
V Aus Karachi Test
V sri lanka 1st test
V ind (2nd match in asia cup)

Yes they have lost some big ones too but to brand them completely choke is bit tad unfair.

Bad luck for SA today. Rain seems to be their enemy in ICC tournaments in Australia

1) If India beats South Africa then
South Africa beats Pakistan & Bangla + Holland

They end up on 7 points

Pakistan will be out as we end up on 6 points.

Pakistan’s games at Perth will not have any rain so that is 4 points in bag. Neither our game v Babgladesh in Adelaide. It does not rain too much in Adelaide.

If Pakistan-South Africa match is washed out in sydney
Then
We have 7
South Africa 6

Pakistan is through.

However i will still
Prefer South Africa beating india to dent their confidence & give cherry to bangladesh as they will face india on dry surface of Adelaide. You never know it is T20 after all.

Pakistan can even win a group if Proteas dent india heavily at Perth.

It still looks at this early stage that Pakistan v South Africa will be the decisive game in the group.

Winner to more than likely qualify with India.

Rain Thread - 2022 WorldT20 Group 2

Hey!

Just wanted to make this thread since the possibility of rain may spice up things in Group 2 (especially since SAF vs Zim was rained off today)

Can someone confirm the rain forecast for all PAK games in the Super 12 please?

Just checked it. All days are clear and we are good to go.

It never rains in perth so pakistans next 2 are in perth,
Sydney v proteas
Even if it is rained off its ok.

Adelaide mostly has pleasent weather.
No chance of rain off.

I believe there is also rain forecast for Bangladesh vs south Africa. If they lose another point there it would really boost our options as that may allow an option of qualifying without beating south Africa.
Another prospect is a rained off game for India and south Africa beating India in which case we could see India possibly going out if we best south africa,, depending on NRR.

Rain forcest on 27 at Sydney where india will play NED.

It's a fickle season in Aus. That's why it's critical to win every possible game in AUS and Eng. Even if this rains out, Ind will only lose 1 point. As long as they don't lose more than 1 point, they are going to the semis.

As rain abandoned the match between Zimbabwe and South Africa, Group 2 has become quite intriguing, and it appears like the battle for the semi-finals will come down to the wire.

Bangladesh and India each have two points. However, Bangladesh tops the group, while India is in second. Bangladesh is in first place due to its higher net run rate. South Africa and Zimbabwe are in third and fourth place, respectively, with one point, while Pakistan and the Netherlands occupy the bottom two.

If India wins all of its remaining matches, it will have 10 points and an assured spot in the semifinals. Pakistan can earn a maximum of eight points, while South Africa can accumulate a maximum of nine. This essentially makes Pakistan vs. South Africa one of the most significant matches in this group.

Bangladesh can also reach 10 points but given their performance in the shortest format over the past year, it seems doubtful that they will overcome India, Pakistan, or South Africa.

India will face South Africa on October 30, while Pakistan will face South Africa on November 3. If India defeats the Proteas, they will likely top Group B and advance to the semifinals.

Pakistan and South Africa are the two sides in the Super 12 that cannot afford any errors. However, Bangladesh cannot be discounted in Group 2.

After SA's 104-run thrashing of Bangladesh

Whether South Africa win by 1 or 100 runs is completely irrelevant from Pakistan’s perspective at the current stage. It would only mean something if Pak have a washout against Zim, Ned or Ban. Zim game will go ahead and you’d have to assume the other two do so as well.

If SA have another washout and Pak don’t and these two finish level on points, Pak will automatically finish ahead because the first tiebreaker is number of wins. Only after that is NRR applied.

India’s NRR is slightly more interesting. But if India and Pakistan end up on same amount of points, that number is most likely 8 points (barring washouts). In that case SA would only be able to reach 7 points. So the NRR between Pak and Ind would only determine who wins the group and who finishes second.

For Pakistan the aim is clear. 4 wins guarantees qualification. The good news is the next two games are against minnows so a nice chance to find some form and build momentum for South Africa game. That match is virtually a QF. It won’t be easy because SA are on a roll at the moment but these are the games you have to win if you want to reach the semis.

We have to win all 4 games now.. SA have boosted their NRR by beating Bangladesh with big margins, and even if one of their next games gets washed out they would be sitting pretty on NRR side..

SA vs. Pak is a Quarterfinal.

We have 4 matches left. With this lool team we will loose 2 of these. S Africa and Zim/BD.

Group 2 scenarios now : (assuming no matches get called off.

Pak need to win the rest of its games and sa needs to lose against India/ned/bang asw as Zimbabwe to lose 2/3 matches for Pak to qualify.
Pak=6 Sa=5 Zimbabwe=5

Sa need to beat 2/3 remaining teams and they will probably qualify ahead of zimbabwe on nrr even if Zimbabwe manages to win 2/3 games
Sa=7 zim=7

Zimbabwe need to win 2/3 and hope sa lose 2/3 to qualify
Zim= 7 pak = 6 sa = 5

I am not sure if we can win against Netherland/Bangladesh.. forget about SA

Basically, we obviously need to win everything, and we need India to beat South Africa.

This World cup is over!!!! Bring back useless coaches and save money

t20 is a wild format and the best one, anything can happen.

We're not out of the World Cup just yet.

Honestly at this point I’m just hoping for chaos.

Hopefully Zimbabwe go through the group undefeated.

Pakistan had played 20-25 T-20 games on the Trott before this T-20 WC, they could not ask for any better preperation. This team management needs to go.

After such a great fight in the first game against India, this was an embarrassing loss against Zimbabwe. World Cup is over so time to look forward, Pakistan is forever to remain inconsistent so such losses shouldn't be a surprise at times. It's all good.

We really need a reliable middle order and we need to get rid of the head coach and batting coach, they both are slow and useless.

Team management, Babar Azam(leave captaincy), chief selector all should go it's absolutely disgusting performance and most of us knew it that our middle order is the issue but didn't even replace the players

Pakistan needs bit of luck their way. Following needs to happen.

1) India needs to beat South Africa
2) Pakistan needs to win all remaining 3 matches.

3) bangladesh needs to beat Zimbabwe. Or Netherlands need to beat zimbabwe.

If it doesn't come down to the last match for Pakistan then I hope Pakistan loose so they can change the management and captain.

Simple as:

> Pakistan win all remaining matches
> India beat SA and India win all remaining matches
> Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe

We are through with India

If Zimbabwe beats Bangladesh which is very likely, its pretty much game over for Pak. Zimbabwe might be threatening a semifinal entry with that washout against RSA.

Today's loss of Pakistan against Zimbabwe has made thier road towards the SFs difficult. Now they have to hope India win against both SA and Zim, then SA lose to both India and then defeat SA. Finally Zim lose to India and also one of BANG oe NED.

Of Pak, SA and ZIM it looks like Zimbabwe have it easier as they need to win 2 out of 3 against India, Ned and Bang. SA also need to win 2 out of 3 against India, Pakistan and Ned. Pakistan will hope both these teams win only 1 each.

I believe Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe is at the Gabba, who do you guys think is favorite for that match
