ICC T20 World Cup 2026: India vs Pakistan | Match 27 | Group A | Colombo | February 15 | Pre-Match Discussion

Match ho jaye ga

It’s pretty hot and humid in Colombo

It’s not like the rain has much of an effect on grounds in this season apparently
Pakistan must play Nafay instead of Usman. Rain will make the game shortened. They can even consider having Fakhar in place of Babar

Usually new debutant Pakistanis are dangerous against India. Most Pakistanis in recent times have raw skill and talent but it doesn’t evolve with time. A process oriented team like India that’s why catches them eventually. Long story short is- Nafay could be X factor against us. Nothing to lose and full badmaashi and daleri like @Rana likes.

Lol so if it rains, then Mohsin Naqvi appears to be the victor... @Devadwal @Rajdeep BCCICC should have worked more on schedule before.🤦‍♂️

Moshin Naqvi only seems to win in imaginary terms but in real world always surrenders.

If the match gets washed out in rain, Pakistan will feel defeated. This is because India dragged Pak out to SL and Dubai for Asia cup 2023 and CT 2025 respectively and forced them to play. The only game Pakistan is getting hybrid and forcing Bharati team to travel is getting washed out. So India is clear winner and BCCI/players will prob have a good laugh behind the scenes.

The only way you guys can salvage some pride after Asia cup 3-0 maulings and Boycott u-turn is if Pak do beat India on the field. Anything else, incluing match getting washed out, will be considered Indian victory.

:kp

I wish I'd planned it too. I've never seen an India-Pakistan game live. Must be an experience especially nowadays.
I saw a Test match live (Karachi test where Asif ripped through a legendary Indian batting lineup). One of my greatest cricketing memories. A whole generation has grown up now without experiencing the thrill of a nerve wracking India-Pakistan test match.

Welcome back. Where have you been?

Alas, we don't produce players of that ilk anymore. Would be a mismatch nowadays.

I've seen a fair bit of Indian cricket live including a classic test against Australia (not the Laxman one) at Eden Gardens where I screamed myself so hoarse, I couldn't talk for days.

I've never seen India-Pakistan though. It's on my bucket list.

Hopefully Nawaz doesn’t play. Pakistan could do with a batter at No.5.

Despite his limited experience at No.5, his overwhelming experience for Pakistan could include Fakhar Zaman or you could go with the x-factor of Khawaja Nafay.

If Fakhar plays then Agha cannot come one down it has to be Fakhar.

Don't you guys think its odd at how many wickets India has lost in the last two games, even if they made a big total. If they are losing wickets to associates im sure we can take there wickets too???

Of course India are favourites but I would love to see Pakistan win.

Rankings and silverware dont lie. This is India's strongest limited overs line up with around 7-8 match winners in the team. They have won 4-5 ICC tournaments in the last 2 years. They were Semi finalists in 2015, 2019 and 2022 as well. They have two test series wins in Australia.

All this indicates that their cricket structure and pipeline of talent, level of competition for places in the playing eleven and squad of 20 is massive which forces players to upskill and be on their toes all the time.

This Indian team will need a very bad day overall at the office and other factors i.e. losing the toss and batting first when dew becomes a disadvantage bowling second to lose to Pakistan.

Pakistan in order to even consistently compete with India will need to massively strengthen its domestic cricket, U19 and A team and introduce a modern fitness culture with a more scientific, professional approach to the game. If we do this now and stick to it, we will perhaps be able to compete with India in 5-10 years.

….This Indian team will need a very bad day overall at the office ….

Don’t need a very bad day; India is in trouble if 4/5 of our batsmen think they can effortlessly smash all Pakistani spinners on the slow and sticky wickets that are being served.

One scenario this is that India bats first and is 3 or 4 down before reaching 40, and plays catch up for the rest of the match.

I mean that’s exactly how a pretty bad day at the office would look like.

India would/should win 99/100 times against this Pakistan team in all conditions

Ajantha Mendis backs Abrar Ahmed and Saim Ayub at Premadasa:

“The carrom ball, particularly when bowled with back-spin, where the revs go back, will ensure the ball skids on here, and both Abrar and Saim are similar in this aspect. They rely on back spin. So naturally they will get good help at Premadasa.”

“When the pitch is dry, the full effect comes into play. You can get the ball to skid on, which opens up two options to take wickets—bowled and LBW. Even a slight variation is enough because in T20s, batsmen commit quickly to their shots. You can’t make late adjustments to a carrom ball unless you pick it.”

“From whatever I’ve seen, they have good control over their variations. In T20s, it’s vital to have variations because you keep the batsman guessing. If you bowl six carrom balls an over, batsmen get used to it. It’s the delivery you should use to surprise batsmen—very few can read the pace off it.”

Have a good feeling about this game. Super excited, let's go get it, boys!

I hope Pakistan don’t mess up this selection. India have plethora of lefties and given the nature of premadasa Faheem can give you better 2 overs than Nawaz

Nafay should be there specially for a short game
I would play Fakhar instead of Naffy thou.

A very bad day for India would mean as corollary that it would be a dramatic, totally unexpected upset by Pakistan.

I don’t think that’s the case. Conditions and this Pakistani team are enough that an India loss while not anticipated certainly would not be a huge surprise to me.

So many marquee games have been washed out in SL… all love to Lankan bros but Lanka is one of the worst places to have a tournament around certain seasons. It’s the kind of rain that washes our entire games

If it does get rained out PCB should be upset that they didn’t stick to the boycott lol

No excitement at all for this game. Will watch it anyway though as it's the weekend. Prime reason being it's almost a dead rubber. If this was a super 8 clash or SF - would have been much more thrilling!

I think rain can be good: :inti

1) It can give BCCICC a financial loss.
2) SL cannot blame PCB as rain would be at fault.
3) PCB got concessions from BCCICC already.

It’s gonna be massive rain on Saturday. 40mm expected . 3mm shown on Sunday . Hopefully it doesn’t change

Former captain Sunil Gavaskar speaking during an interview:

“All our bowlers picked up wickets. Arshdeep did not complete his four overs, while Hardik Pandya finished his quota. This hints that Kuldeep Yadav could replace Arshdeep against Pakistan.”

“Varun gets wickets whenever he is asked to bowl, and Axar Patel picking up two wickets is a very good sign.”

“He goes too deep and plays that flick shot. He needs to spend more time at the crease, especially if he opens against the new ball.”

Harbhajan Singh speaking during an interview:

“India will win the match. Pakistan has a spinner, he is a good spinner, we have to play him safe.”

“The Indian team is capable; it’s a very good team. We hope they play the way they have always played, play without any pressure and wave the flag of victory,”

Indian team has moved to the ITC opposite from us due to security reasons apparently or because they won't have to awkwardly shake hands with the Pak players if they run into each other
Nah it was already booked . You gave the misinformation here. :klopp :kp

Really? There were a lot of Indians waiting outside waiting yesterday. Maybe misdirection by Indian management:yk
Just because there are Indians everywhere doesn't mean the team is staying at the same hotel. Indian journalists are already there and know exactly where Team India is staying.

:kp

Pakistani batsmen need to stand up for once, give your bowlers a chance to play properly, for some reason most of our batters struggle against Kuldeep Yadav

Babar Azam on the highly anticipated match against India:

"The India vs Pakistan match is always high intensity. The whole world, the fans, both the countries are involved, the whole world is involved. It goes to a different level. Expectations also go to a different level. I have been a part of a lot of matches. I have also learnt that the more you keep yourself cool, relaxed, and don't listen to the outside, the more you keep yourself straight forward, the better. From my experience, I talk to the youngsters, yes, there is excitement, but the more you keep yourself easy, tension-free, it is better for you."(Alternative close paraphrase from the same interview:”

Michael Clarke speaking on the Beyond 23 Cricket podcast:

"I’ve said it all along, I’m going to go to India to win. I feel like Pakistan hasn’t been able to handle the pressure that comes with playing against India over a long period of time now. I think Pakistan at the moment has got some issues off the field and have done for a little while. Even the conversation around whether they would play the game or not doesn't help anyone in the team."

"But I think India is going to dominate; they are at their best. Pakistan is not at its best, and they need to be. They need to play their absolute best game, and India needs to miss some opportunities for them to win. So India to beat Pakistan."

"Playing in Sri Lanka is very different from playing in India. The pitches turn a bit more and definitely a lot slower. So I don’t think you are going to see as many high scores. I reckon 190 is going to be about par."

"India versus Pakistan, there has been a lot of talk in the past couple of weeks. Pakistan got a win as well. India looks to be in absolute cracking form. So it is always a big game. The most recent publicity will probably only build that game up even more. From a World Cup perspective, all the talk is about that game now."

Salman Ali Agha said "I hope Abhishek plays tomorrow, I hope he's recovering well. We want to play against the best".

Our biggest handicap will be captain Tulla Agha. This mediocrity leading us is a matter of shame. 120 SR and 25 Avg and even that is inflated against crap attacks. Will brick it against India as always Mr. captain. I haven't seen a more unlikeable captain in the green shirt in our entire history.

Babar and Shaheen will have to put their hands up. Whatever their current form, Ind has been burnt at the hands of both before and they know what they are capable of. Given that we have to accept this clown Agha playing for us vs India, he has to bat no higher than 6 or 7.

The boys can definitely beat Ind, they have a point to prove with all the shenanigans as well. Bhumrah will choke again like AC and tulla Sharma will chicken out. Only batsman I fear is Talak Verma. All the others are grade A tullas. Bat first, get 160 and put the spin choke. Ind won't know what hit them.
How many games Babar has vs India and apart from a win 5 years ago, what are his stats vs India?

Damn bro.
All this rona dhona for a game that might get washed out.

Today there was a forecast of 78% for many hours in the afternoon of thunderstorms and rain but nothing so far.. Tomorrow there is a 30% chance of "light rain". Can't really rely on the weather predictions in tropical countries, the forecast was similar for 2 weeks in the Philippines last November but it rained for 4 hours in total the whole time I was there. Match is happening, 100 percent.

Thanks for the update, Aunty ji.
I hope the match happens.

Sri Lankan government has made it VISA free for Indians to travel to Sri Lanka from any part of the world.

A great gesture

On the contrary, Pakistani citizens still require a pre approved visa to travel to Sri Lanka for obvious security reasons, dear.
Sl was always visa free for indians right, or they waived that pre arrival form filling ?

This situation in Colombo very similar to Women WC final in Navi Mumbai between India and south africa..... on Final day it was raining till afternoon, thereafter weather got cleared and India won 🏆
