Wikipedia? Blasphemy, NEVER go to wikipedia

Cricinfo says that is is leader of group A will face Group D. Which means probably NZ or Nepal and by the looks of it, it seems like we are going to face Nepal should Nepal win vs Ireland and India beat NZ bothw which are quite likely. Either way we should be able to beat Nepal or NZ easily.

However, what will happen in the semis, I have no Idea what-so-ever

Yeah I suspected it even before you said it and checked Cricinfo but thanks nevertheless.

Looks like Hasan Mohsin is a gun pace bowling allrounder which we desperately need in our National team.

Or may be not , he just started bowling recently and has met with great success before that he was playing primarily as a batsmen through out U19 domestic leagues.

Sarfaraz Khan is the Man of the Match. "happy, but not satisfied because I have to do more. Initially there was lot of pressure, but I just wanted to stay on the wicket as much as possible. Trying my best with legspin. Ireland have been good, they bowled very well. I hope to go well. [Short ball tactic] Dravid is a really good coach and our fast bowlers are doing really good with the new ball and the slog overs too"

Lols the bowler is grunting as if he is going to bowl 145 kph and all what comes towards the batsmen is 128 kph

The speedgun doesn't really give the true picture for balls banged halfway down the pitch. He balls a heavy ball.

These competitions arent as vital for the western nations as it is for the asian ones, because the majority of western players havent fully developed yet which is why not many make it senior level.

Not to mention at this age level the talent gap between nations isnt as large. Can guarantee you any money every member of the NZ side today will be better than Nepal in 10 years as they develop through domestic matches.

+1 exactly what people dont realise.

Cricketers improve and evolve in the last teens to early 20s. Most of Aus/Eng/Ind cricketers who have gone on to do really well weren't in the national team until their early 20s. Tendulkar, Ponting are just anomalies.

The real learning curve for these cricketers starts now. Up until the U19s, a cricketer's talent is the only thing on display. For here onwards, their technique, coaching and temperament will come into play, and those who can't make it fall behind.

That is where sides like Nepal will fall behind as they will not get any of the coaching. In fact, more than 60% of the cricketers from the top 10 nations plain in this U19WC wont make it to international teams, and only a handful will become regulars for their national teams in the long run.

Where is Dios lol ? Predicted we will lose to Afghanistan. Was a canter in the end tbh.

I guess Pakistan got lucky. Normally when a stronger team wins the toss against a much weaker team they choose to bat first. Guess Pakistan got scared of the Afghan boys and wanted to play it safe given how Afghanistan have beaten them badly quite a few times. Afghanistan still have a chance to qualify but now they have to beat Sri Lanka.

If Pakistan finish second in their group then it will be Bangladesh v Pakistan in the quarter-finals and Pakistan's tournament is almost guaranteed to be over so Pakistan have to look to win the group.

Congratulations to Nepal. What a fantastic result for them. The passion for cricket in Nepal is immense. Reminds me of Bangladesh in the ICC Trophy days when thousands of people would flock to the streets to celebrate a win against Kenya lol.

Hugeee result for Nepal they defeated Nz u19..

Qualifier Nepal caused the first major upset of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2016 when it stunned New Zealand by 32 runs in a Group D match in Fatullah on Thursday.

Nepal, which won the qualifying event in Malaysia last year to return to the World Cup after missing the previous tournament in 2014, bowled out the Kiwis for 206 after it was set a 239-run target.

While captain Raju Rijal top-scored for Nepal with 48, seamer Dipender Airee’s three wickets and off-spinner Prem Tamang’s two helped clinch the dramatic win.

Dale Phillips scored 41 to make a late victory bid for New Zealand before he was last out to spark joyous celebrations in the Nepalese camp.

“This was a great win for us,” said Rijal. “We fielded brilliantly to effect three run-outs and that turned the match for us.”

New Zealand skipper Josh Finnie said his side messed up what should have been a comfortable run-chase.

“We made the target more difficult for ourselves,” he said. “We must now win the next two games against India and Ireland if we are to progress.”

Three-time champion India overcame a shaky start against Ireland to open its campaign with a 79-run victory in Mirpur in another Group D match, which was produced by ICC TV and aired around the world by 15 broadcasters.

India was reduced to 55 for four after being sent in to bat, before Sarfaraz Khan and Washington Sundar pulled their side out of trouble with a 110-run stand for the fifth wicket.

Sarfaraz smashed 74 off 70 balls which included seven boundaries, while left-handed Sundar hit a polished 62.

Irish seamers Rory Anders and Joshua Little picked up three wickets each, but tail-ender Zeeshan Ansari boosted India’s total with a run-a-ball 36 at the end.

Ireland was bowled out for 189 in reply as Rahul Batham took three for 15 and Avesh Khan finished with two for 24.

Sarfaraz said he was not satisfied despite winning the man of the match award.

“I should have scored more because I had settled in well,” he said. “Hopefully, I will do better in the remaining matches. But it is good to start the tournament with a win.”

India captain Ishan Kishan was relieved that his side collected maximum points. “We lost early wickets but runs were done by Sarfaraz and Washington who had an excellent partnership. The fielding effort was great as we inflicted two run-outs at the start and then, the bowlers hit the right areas,” the opener said.

Kishan continued: “I am not that much happy with the batting as we lost early wickets but this was the first match and I am sure we’ll learn from this match and do better in upcoming matches.

“India has won the event thrice, so the expectation level is pretty high. We have to play professionally and try to live up to the expectations.”

Ireland captain Jack Tector chose to look at the defeat positively. “We started the game very well with the ball and then also had a few partnerships which bodes well for the future.”

In Group B games played in Sylhet, Pakistan crushed Afghanistan by six wickets and Sri Lanka overpowered Canada by 196 runs.

Pakistan’s leg-spinner Shadab Khan grabbed four for nine in five overs and seamer Hasan Mohsin took three for 24 as Afghanistan was bundled out for 126 after being sent in to bat.

Tariq Stanikzai scored a fine 53, but eight batsmen failed to reach double-figures against the sustained pressure applied by the Pakistanis.

Pakistan surpassed the modest target in the 32nd over with Zeeshan Malik making 29, Hasan Mohsin an unbeaten 28 and Mohammad Umar 25.

Shadab, playing his first U19 World Cup, admitted he was nervous at the start but settled down to return with excellent figures.

“I tried to bowl as straight as possible without trying too many things,” he said. “I am happy with my performance but more importantly we achieved a convincing win. It has given us tremendous confidence and lifted the entire side.”

Sri Lanka showed why it is one of the tournament favourites when it rattled up 315 for six after electing to bat against Canada.

Skipper Charith Asalanka led the way with 76 off 69 balls, the in-form Shammu Ashan hit 74 off 61 balls, Kaveen Bandara made 61 and wicketkeeper Vishad de Silva scored 51.

Canada was shot out for 119 in reply with Arslan Khan playing a lone hand with an unbeaten 42. Lahiru Kumara, Thilan Nimesh and Damitha Silva claimed two wickets each.

The 11th edition of the biennial 16-nation tournament features nine Test-playing nations and seven Associate and Affiliate Members – Afghanistan, Canada, Fiji, Namibia, Nepal, Ireland and Scotland.

asalanka is from a middle class family. ashan's a son of a fisherman.

Wow, why aren't they malnourished like other cricketers from poor family ? Damn imagine how fat they would get if they get an SLc contract ?

:))) New Zealand Aman.

Congrats to Donal Cozzie and the Irish team for showing some back bone.

LOL at Canada.

And many will never get anywhere from this level, due to lack of match practices, financial support, motivation and etc. Remember Canada being 205-3 wickets while chasing SA's target of 293. Stayed up and stalked cricinfo's scorecard before saw the team crumble to 250ish :'(

Kohli and Sangwan were in the U-19 which won the WC ,sad Sangwan could never make it big ,always hanging around with his high society buddies.

He has a pretty impressive bowling record to be honest/

It's U19's lol, it's as painful as the Jnr Warriors losing to the Knights in the Holden Cup.
