ICC World Cup 2023: Pakistan (200/1) keep their hopes of a Semi-Final berth alive with a 21 runs DLS win over New Zealand (401/6)

Match called off. I honestly think if Pakistan were in fact chasing the full score of 402, they probably would have collapsed somewhere and fell short but I will take it. They should have won the SA and didn't. They were probably going to lose in a 50 over chase but batted well and put themselves ahead in a DLS situation which is exactly how they planned after the toss win. Though, I am sure they didn't plan on giving up 400+ runs but nonetheless, its another victory vs NZ in the WC.

Everyone is going to be glued for the NZ & SL match and if SL can pull of an upset or lose in a close situation, it will make for an epic match for Pakistan vs England.
 
What the heck we haven't improved at all our net rr got worse its -0.424 2hile nz net rr improved
 
How come Pakistan won the match but their NRR has gone below AFG? I thought it will go postive but its decreased further.

Pakistan conceded 8.02 and scored at 7.84. Not by much but even with a win, NRR will fall slightly. OTOH, NZ NRR will improve even with defeat.

Scratch that. According to Cricinfo:

Net run rate would be calculated considering New Zealand scored 179 in 25.3 overs and Pakistan made 200 in 25.3
 
If only England beat NZ in the first game. Ey! NZ NRR still much greater than Pak. Basically pak needs SL to beat NZ which is on current form, possible 50-50 as NZ lost 4 in a row, SL lost last two but did beat England. Game on Hai!

No way "the boys" would have chased 400 there would have been a collapse or the run rate would have slowed down after fakhars wicket
Its a public forum everyone has an opinion if your sensitive lock your self in your bedroom and don't show your face to public

Agreed.

One wicket and we would have been in big trouble trying to wrangle a 10RPO chase.

Players would have come in hit a boundary and departed. Game wrapped up for 245.

This is the best way for us to win this.
 
Rachin and Williamson innings can be called slow considering the nature of pitch and small ground

Comeplete different team. An aggressive dasher at the top puts the opponent bowlers off many ways. Timid opening pairs makes life easier for the opponents
 
Congrats Pak fans!! This was a statement. Massive win and the world cup b came a whole lot exciting!
 
I honestly believe even had it been a 50 overs chase, PAK would have edge past it - 20 runs ahead in DWL par, at half way stage is a massive lead. It would have been hell of a chase - only second 400+ successful chase.

Could be too late though - all for losing a game against AFGs, a contest probably next 7 will again be won by PAK.
 
Guys we are behind afg on rr, and afg have a high chance of beating sa just saying if sa is chasing

Exactly we could have tried to win one of afg or sa game we were really close against sa
 
How many epic centuries does Fakhar have to his name now. This WC century, CT 17' legendary century, 193 runs vs SA which Fakhar says is his best knock (and I think he is right), 180 vs NZ.

Such an impactful player for Pakistan and more of what Pakistan needs. Not accumulators who care about their 50's but rather scoring quickly and having a destructive gear when it is your day.
 
For 4th place not only NZ but Afghanistan also have a chance as they are playing 2 more matches….. so 4 th place race is between NZ-Pak-AFG
 
Fakhar would have scored heavily against Netherlands and Afghanistan I reckon had he played. Which would have improved NNR. Something like NNR most teams dont take it seriously but it always comes to bite one in the backside!

Agree 100%. Fakhar and Babar were playing so comfortably. Just a quick 20 or 30 was needed from the rest even if these two fell. NZ also made a tactical blunder with just two pacers. Not sure if that mattered eventually but it's definitely better than a spinner unable to grip the ball. Ballsy move to chase on a flat patta and even greater ballsy with the way Fakhar played considering 400 target. Massive morale boosting win
 
Brilliant knock by Fakhar truly breath taking. Stranger things have happened SL might turn up. Who would have thought Netherlands would beat SA to give Pakistan a lifeline in the last t20 edition
 
NZ team always unlucky in final stages of WC… after scoring 400+ runs who would have thought they loose this match…
 
The best thing is nz playes 2 days before our last match we will know all the calculations by then

This partnership equals the highest in WCs for pakistan, 194 is tied with Anwar and Wasti vs the same opponents in '99.
 
This is such a typical Pakistan tournament. As Nasser Hussain always says, the most unpredictable side in the world. Also exciting. Win when odds defy them (today). Lose when they ought to win (Afghanistan game, South Africa game). On their day they can beat anyone, but also lose to anyone from a strong position (collapse).

NZ is on a 4 game losing streak I think. They should beat SL, but you never know. SL has to play for a champions trophy spot and pride as well. Staying in the top 7 is a priority for some of these teams. NZ is the better team, but they are not playing at the same level they were at the start of the tournament.

Anyone have an idea how crazy the run rate has to be? Would we have to bowl England out for under 150 and then chase it within 10 overs, or win by like 200+ runs batting first, something ridiculous like that?
 
Man this Eng team is under so much pressure they can't even play bazball now

Nz didn't do anything special at the start of the tournament..they beat eng(bottom of the table), Ned,bng and Afghanistan.. nothing special from them even in the beginning too..they were hyped up too much on PP

No your calculations are wrong bro if today if we have won around 36 overs or won by 76 odd runs we would have gone ahead of them on the table and that was when nz net rr was around 0.770 something now it's even dropped to 0.389 and ours in 0.030
 
Pakistan's best bet of qualifying is SL beating NZ or losing in a very tight match.

Afghanistan need to lose their remaining two matches vs Aus & SA which they are likely to do so.

If NZ loses their next match, all Pakistan need to do is win vs England regardless of NRR. if NZ wins in a tight match vs SL, then Pakistan will need to beat England in a blowout fashion most likely. If NZ beats SL in a blowout, then Pakistan hopes are likely finished.

If SL win then any kind of win against England would be enough. PK 10 and NZ 8 points. If SL lose, then we have to hammer England.

Its true. They are suspect on chasing. But did chase against Pakistan. Which will give them confidence going into other run chases now. Afghans only hope, like as you said, win toss bat first and hope if it’s slow wicket with their spinners, need to play that left arm wrist spinner too.
 
Against top sides (included England as well :) ) These two have one of the worst Economy rates. Just above Srilanka. Today we could witness why they are so horrible.

Will 4th team play against India? If so I rather loose to Eng than loose by 300 runs to India with Bumrah, Shami and Siraj will bowl us out under 50

Pakistan only has a chance if NZ lose to SL, Then PAK will fight with AFG on NRR if AFG wins atleast wins one of remaining match and if AFG loses both Pakistan is through (NRR of AFG is still negative and that will help PAK)

Otherwise in NZ wins against SL.
To overhaul NZ NRR which is presently +0.398 (which may improve if its not a close game win against SL)
Pakistan has to do one of following against ENG
Pakistan if batting seccond in last match has to win in 27 overs whatever ENG scores (to overhaul current NZ NRR of +0.398)
or
if pakisstan bats first the winning margin of runs should be more tha 148 runs (to overhaul current NZ NRR of +0.398)

Good thing is Pakistan Match is last among all matches that matter for PAK wualification. They will know before hand what is needed to be done against ENG

Because today was against NZ itself. 76 added to PCT nrr and 76 deducted from NZ nrr.

NZ-SL likely to be rained off.
Same venue, same forecast with rain from afternoon onwards and its a D/N match.
 
Parchi Imam himself cost us 3 matches!!!! Should be ban this idiot from playing national team again.

But by todays experience, there will be some game, curtailed game may be. Wash out is not possible in this time of year in bengaluru. besides grounds drainage system is good

Not true at all. After that rain break, ball was sliding on easily and it was ridiculous for bowling.

Even so, batting gets tough at the back end with the older balls and NZ could have clawed back with even 1 wicket.

Chasing 400 on a Bangalore pitch is near impossible.

NZ had no luck whatsoever.

Afg bowlers > Pak bowlers. And sa seem to still have the chasing choke mentality
 
When Fakhar plays like that thiers no bowler in the world that can stop him and I believe he would have got 160+ if it was a full game.
 
This reminds me of IPL play off this year on this ground. Kohli made 100 in 60 balls yet his team lost because Gill made 100 in 50 balls to pull off a win easily.
