What's new

ICC World Cup 2023: South Africa (311/7) inflict a massive 134-run defeat over Australia (177 all out)

They have to drag it to 20th to 25th over without any more damage at acceptable rate. Then dew will come. They have break it down into 30 overs + 20 overs. Stoinis on a good day can be lethal in the back end. He can manage 10-12 asknig rate easily.
Well Smithy is gone, he was looking very good though. Only Maxi can drag this one out, but I don't expect much, he is an updated version of Afridi, always has been.

Teams like India and South Africa may be strong now but will inevitably choke towards the end of the tournament. Pakistan and New Zealand will love it if England and Australia are eliminated here. Once we go to knockouts India and SA won't be serious contenders and door will open for champion mentality teams.

Who are they?

I'd have bowled Ngidi through to be honest. He's bowling well and Australia are in survival mode. This is a big ground so scoreboard pressure will be a thing

But this is a seasoned by bowling line up. Srilankan average age of bowling unit is 21 or something. Very inexperienced. They will easily wilt under pressure.
No hasaranga
No lahiru and no chameera. They would have been a force with those 3.

BCCI may have had bad intentions while opposing DRS but they were 100% correct about the nonsense that is ball tracking.

Game over for Australia it's damage control now. Pakistan can definitely win against Australia the way they are playing at the moment

Playing IPl so often has given SA huge confidence. I still am 100% confident they will fail in semis.

Aus will bounce back hard after this. I feel sorry for whoever will face them next. Write them off at your own peril.

What a bowling by South Africa .now it's likely that Australia is not going to make in semi

Fishy indeed

- The ball was angling in
- He was struck on leg stump, Steve Smith was hit on the crease (so there was some distance for the call to hit the sumps)
- Yet DRS showed the ball was hitting the center of leg stump

Yes it is a good idea to knock out Australia at league stage as they tend to raise up their game in knockouts!

South africa playing with real fire and intensity. However that Smith wicket really looks dodgy to me.

If you look from behind 60% outside 40% stumps. So it was more umpire's call than out. Not sure how the algorithm is calculated there.

Thanks god india is not playing otherwise people's start saying ICC= BCCI and BCCI change the Hawky just like 2011 WC match

But that is Smith's strength and weakness. Even in Tests he got out similarly recently. Completely blocking the path of the delivery and trying to take it from stumps. When he had reflexes he was able to pull it off consistenly.

Rabada 133-140 pace
Ngidi today 134-144
Jansen 133-144

Interesting.

Very good bowling. Absolutely outstanding.

Without head aus don't seem to be struggling with batting. He was tearing SA down before he got injured in the series prior to the WC.

saffies were my dark house pick for the tournament. They should get to semis minimum now at least after this

Sure but pitch is offering way more than other roads we have seen till now
Well credit to SA trios to take full advantage unlike the Aussies where only Starc prevailed & captain clueless completely crashed under pressure. Since 15 wc quarter final against Sri, this is the first time in a big wc game I am seeing these quick guns really turning up & bending their back. Lovely to watch specially for me who grew up watching ruthless SA fast bowling.

Lesson i have learnt from watching cricket since 31 years "never ever rule out aus of the game till last ball". Too many heartbreaking moments for me as a fan in past associated with aus.

Australian team we have seen so far covered all the bases. This line up has too many holes to plug.

Only Pak team could still lose from Australia from here, after having Australia 58-4, and them chasing over 300 … I would still fancy Australia beating Pak, after being 58-4…. Happened too many times already.…

I honestly don't want INdia to bat second !!! Even if a total is only 250 i rather want India to defend it.

AUS 60/4 (14/50 ov,)

Australia need 252 runs from 36 overs.Australia need 252 runs from 36 overs.

Current RR: 4.28

Worrying sign for Australia is not just the wickets. 84 balls bowled plus a noball. I can say 4 or 5 balls were timed well. Vast majority of the shots were mistime or missed completely. That trend continues.

I can see South Africa playing the world cup final but who will be the apposition Team that is question?

Poor shot tbh, decent delivery but not unplayable.

No feet movement at all
Veterans like Smith & Maxwell also being unable to properly move their feet. Can't blame the rookie. It was again a tactical error from Cummins to send the rookie before Maxi or Stonis. Rabada & Lungi have been truly ripping it off. Even Ind,Nz or Eng would have struggled against such high class fast bowling.
