If Misbah plays, didn't Mickey say he wants Younis to be dropped?

Mickey Arthur was absolutely categorical about this in Australia in December.

He does not want Misbah and Younis to retire at the same time and leave newcomers filling the Numbers 4 and 5 slots in Tests.

(Although these are the least consistently productive two middle-order batsmen in world cricket, as I will shortly show......)

But now we find that Misbah has refused to retire, even though these are his scores in reverse order in the away Tests in England, New Zealand and Australia:

18 + 38
11 + 0
4 + 5
31 + 13
15
56 + 10
52 + 35
114 + 0

Younis Khan's record is arguably even worse with 2 massive innings failing to hide multiple dismal failures:

175* + 13
21 + 24
0 + 65
2 + 11
2 + 1
218
31 + 4
1 + 28
33 + 25

Younis failed to reach a score of 40 in 6 away Tests out of 9. While Misbah has failed to reach 40 in any of his last 5 away Tests.

So surely, if Misbah plays on, Inzamam is required to drop - or at least "rest" Younis Khan.

Him not wanting both of them to retire at the same time doesn't equate to dropping one of them, surely?

Let's colour code the pathetic output of Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq to highlight what a burden on their team they have both become.

Misbah-ul-Haq: Eight away Tests since July 2016
18 + 38
11 + 0
4 + 5
31 + 13

15
56 + 10
52 + 35
114 + 0

Younis Khan: Nine away Tests since July 2016
175* + 13
21 + 24
0
+ 65
2 + 11
2 + 1

218
31 + 4
1 + 28
33 + 25

You can't survive in Test cricket with your Numbers 4 and 5 delivering so few runs so often.

It is insanity to keep picking this pair.

So many failures. God... I did not expect to see that. Surely their replacements could do better than that.

That's what happens when you select has-beens in their forties.

I'm sure Misbah will retire after the WI series. As for Younis, he will continue for another 5 years. Performing once in a blue moon with a HUGE hundred and cementing his place for an entire season.

You never know, seeing as Younis is close to 10k runs he will probably rage quit after that as Sarfraz will most likely be the next test captain. If that happens the ball is in the PCB's court to not give into emotional blackmail

They are 42 and 43. Either one of them is omitted, or you will never be rid of them.

Yes, but your thread title is different to what you're saying here. That's not what Mickey Arthur said according to your OP.
