India (150 & 487/6d) beat Australia (104 & 238) by 295 runs in the 1st Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25

Seriously guys, what can Pant do from this situation. Max he can take India to 150.

Why do they win toss and bat first if they dont know how to bat?
Even more strange when you have a premier fast bowler as your captain. Maybe he thought they were playing on a rank turner in India, and didn't want to bat last.

You are not seeing and rating his defence in between! He cannot afford to do that in LOIs... (where good balls also have to be scored off by at least maneuvering around) Since he can defend the ball with ease (any number of balls till he feels comfortable) he can launch into his instinctive strokeplay even on marginally lose balls... That's his style of playing... Yes suits very much in tests... Bit like VVS Laxman (even he didn't excel well in LOIs). Even Rahane was a bit like this... These players like to dominate & take the attack to opposition... There are other set of players like Dravid, Pujara, etc, who are different, their intension is to tire the bowlers over a period of time...
I m not an expert but by the looks of the way he bats his technique is not that compact. He doesn't move his feet much. He has many shortcomings but still he scores well in tests.

KL always score 1 hundred overseas and then score nothing in entire series. Today was looking like that one hundred wala innings. However umpire cheated him out.
He was on 26, not 76. Lol. So, this was the century inning from him in this series? And you won’t mind if he gets another call like this in the test series? :inti

Technique isn't the issue, it's confidence. His favourite format is clearly tests and he's just not interested in odi and t20 that much.

This mental block is very common for many players. Everyone has a favourite format lol

Lol rishabh pant looks so ugly playing these shots but he is effective very effective.

Lol no he has technical issues as well. Sometimes he even falls on the ground playing pull hook shot

See theirs a difference between technical issues and play styles.

People think orthodox stances equal good technique and unorthodox stances and shots equals bad technique which isn't true.

Steve smith in his prime has an award wars stance and unorthodox style and tbf he still does, However his drives, front foot and backfoot, Pull shots etc, they were all solid even if their not the traditional cover drives or Pull shots we are use to, Since steve smith literally twists his body 360 degrees for a Pull or shuffles 4 steps across and twists his entire body just to drive lol, but it works.

Pant doesn't play traditional cricketing strokes but in terms of footwork, and strokeplay he's clearly mastered it

Technical issues are for people like rizwan who has zero offside shots or for people like babar who dont have any backfoot play against spin.

Pant is unorthodox but he doesn't have Technical weaknesses.

He was looking good today with compact defence and could have scored lot more.

But that is beyond the point. That was not out and 3rd umpire had no conclusive evidence to overturn on field decision. We need to talk about that rather than his avg etc

he got beaten a million times

Pitch is now looking good for batting with early moisture and green tinge gone. Not good news for our bowler

Why bat first here?

:dw

It is always the case. India lost all of its batsmen to the new ball.

Next time, India should open with siraj and Bumrah. Then gradually go up the order.

Imagine India were 98/6 with top 4 still to bat 😂

What if Australia piled 400+ batting first? That would demoralize the hell out of this team... I think the decision to bat first is fair enough... India has a chance to bat well in 2nd innings and apply pressure on 4th innings... Only Rohit Sharma can made dumb decisions at toss...

Pant once again bailing team out of bad situation , what a matchwinner , he is better batsman than Dhoni.

Pitch will be bad in fourth innings , trust me.

Very poor captaincy by Cummins here. He should be brining back Hazelwood rather than giving easy runs off Lyon.

And posters here like, only bcoz Paine was captain last time India won

could have finished india off already but i think cummins feels sorry for fans. so for entertainment reasons he has kept bowling crap bowlers.
whom btw our maharatis still cant handle

You dont play with 'what if'.

We should have taken lesson from Bangalore test and bowled first here

Pat Cummins drops Rishabh Pant on 26.

lucky

35 runs partnership so far , Aussies looking for breakthrough , but pitch playing better now

As we have seen many many times before, India's lower order helping the team out of crisis. This is why you need allrounders or bowlers who can hold the bat.

And Kholi too... Add Rohit sharma as well
You need to look at overall career , Dhoni does not have a hundred in SENA countries , Sharma and Kohli have. Kohli scored 5 centuries in one series alone, there are many batters who are rated big names on this forum did not have a single in whole career

Will be great if Nitish Reddy experiments works well for us in test cricket!
