India [156/2] defeat New Zealand [157] by 8 wickets [DLS Method] in the 1st ODI

Don't think speed 148 kph bothers batsmen these days. Umesh Yadav blocked almost all the 150k thunderbolts from Starc successfully.

Missed the chance of making this close with Rohit and Dhawan struggling early on, India should cruise this.

Credit to the bowlers for a fine spell, just not enough runs to defend.

Horrible performance by the batsmen. Credit to Kuldeep, Chahal, and especially Shami who were superb.

I remember McCullum once hit Tait's 150 kph balls behind the keeper for six. Release speed is good. But not sure how much pace it loses after pitching. He has to pitch it up.

Unless he swings the ball, pitching up will result in a six over his head

To stay match fit and give ranji players a chance to prove themselves against international standard players. By your logic no international player should play domestic cricket.

No. What I meant was, he should play List A because he only plays ODI games for India. WHy should he play Ranji unless he's also in the test team

Deep down they know this is not a 158 run pitch. No real demons on the pitch. No overcast conditions. No stiff wind. Just a true wicket offering a slight turn. But traditionally i have noticed this thing. NZ batsmen have faltered against full balls. Even the old Mohammad sami of Pakistan had some success here. Akhtar, Lee, Akram all tasted success with full balls.

India and England are clearly the two strongest sides in ODI’s at the moment, by far. I mean have you seen England’s record at home since 2016 they’ve only lost like 4 games and have a w/l ratio of over 6. Two teams that are confirmed top 4’s. Pak, NZ, Aus, and maybe SA to fight it out for the other two positions in my opinion.

Another great performance here from Kuldeep.

This is what I meant when I asked people to wait before Kiwis faced a decent side. Bashing Pakistan and Sri Lanka doesn't really mean much.

Won't be too smug on the basis of this Kiwi innings. They're a quality side especially in home environs and hence should be respected.

NZ is more familiar with Indian bowlers than the other subcontinent sides given that they extensively participate in the iPL. But they have some traditional weaknesses you can exploit. But guys like Taylor, Williamson, Guptill are match winners on a given day against any side in the world. I won't write them off yet. Not like India has no weaknesses at all. They have a gigantic hole in the middle.

Need to get India down to 5 or 6 for some respectability.

On the other hand it would be good for the other batsmen to get some time in the middle for the rest of the series.. hmm...

Not hard. But Dhoni is in "boring" form.

Hyping somebody for International LOIs based on Ranji? Ohh Boy, that is some wonderful fact-based argument.:salute
And love the 'girl' references. Typical Desi way of thinking. :wahab2

Oh look, our 'videshi' lota doesn't like desi way of thinking. LOL!

Yes, fangirls of Dhoni, who's lost India at least 20 matches single handedly since 2015, would obviously struggle to comprehend how a batsman who conquers both the long format and T20s is *most* ideal for ODIs. Elementary to us desi fans. :)

This is poor. Why should anyone suffer due to architectural defect in a stadium? What if it comes down to this solitary run in the end?

Express pace was a novelty back in late 70s to early 90s. However by 2000s most cricketer regularly faced 150km/hr even in domestic cricket. Now even tailenders can play fast bowlers who rely only on speed. Unless you can bowl 155km/hr every other over like Akhtar or Lee, it's better to focus on line, length and variations.

Pitch has decent bounce to exploit. But apart from two balls that kicked off from good length for Bracewell, you have to pitch it really short to get the bounce. This bowling is not a threatening bowling unit on flat wickets with an exception of Boult and Southee to some extent. Ferguson is not a finished product. Bowling on both sides. Bit erratic. Bracewell is okayish.

Why are they bowling short o a length here. Apart from the mistimed pull from Dhawan they are not getting anything here by bowling short.

If you want to get Kohli's wickets just keep the ball around 4th stump channel even throw a bit wider. These short balls on the stumps are stupid bowling to Kohli.

NZ commies are the most optimistic fans of their country. They are chest thumping NZ will never play like this in this series anymore :) Very patriotic and super confident.

Do you expect them to say NZ will roll over and give up the rest of series?

NZs performance at home in recent years suggests they will be competitive.

No. You don't say anything. You just say "They have to step up" not "they will never make this mistake again".

I wouldnt read to much into what commentators say these days. Some of them are glorified cheer leaders. Its the same everywhere basicly.

Because this team is professional, they've had these defeats before and fought back.

India bowled well today and we didn't bat well, there's not much to take from it other than to apply themselves better in the series.

The best thing to do is not to give India's middle order any time in the middle.

Let them take that middle order to the WC :))

Hopefully the middle order won't get much time in the middle even in the WC. The top 3 needs to score the bulk of the runs most of the time, and then Jadhav, DK and Pandya can finish things off.

Do you want to pay for the upgrades?

This is a multipurpose rugby stadium, it's not India where there's a cricket ground every 10ks.

What? :)))

He didn't hit that and the noise came after the bat passed the bat.

Who cares whether the ground hosts rugby or other nonsense sport.

If the ground wants to hosts India they better pull up their socks. I've heard the mayor of whatever city this is already **** himself and promised to rectify. LMAO!

Dude he immediately said he hit it and spike came from back of the bat. You osund like Styris the patriot lol Bat was far and away from every thing and there was a spike .

Yea, snicko was manipulated.
It wasn't manipulated, it was used wrong in this instance IMO. The noise came after it passed the bat and hot spot showed nothing. It was probably high anyway, still think it was wrong to call that not out based on that evidence.

Lmao, and this is when Bumrah is rested. All this recent overrating NZ by Pakistani fans seems more like a coping mechanism.

I am convinced NZ ommies are way too patriotic compared to Asian fans (excluding Bngladesh) . They almost don't sound objective.

He did hit it. The ball went past the bat in just one frame and the snicko showed a spike there.

True, this must be alien to you.

That is illusion. It came from the back of the bat that is why Kohli even referred immediately. You really think Kohli would refer if he had not hit it?

Yeah, best not to bring in irrelevant minor sports on a forum dedicated to the greatest sport on this planet. Maybe there's some subforum where you can amuse yourself?

Personally heard no noise and from the evidence they showed, I don't think it was enough to overturn it.

Are you for real?

Is it India's fault that this stadium is a multi purpose stadium? Today it is 1-run. Tomorrow it could be something substantial and may even pinch NZ. Would it still be Ok with this stadium being a multi purpose stadium?

What? :)))

Styris and you are.clutching at straws. Snicko indicated a spike at contact and you could clearly hear two noises real time

Hate to break it to you, but cricket is a minor sport.

If you don't think snicko is not enough evidence then they better remove that as evidence. Hotspot and snicko are THE evidence

If this stadium isn't appropriate to hold ICC sanctioned games, then it should be taken out of roster.

Cricket is a game of beautiful sights and sounds.

One of the most underrated sound is that of Ian Smith crying inconsolably with a mic in hand. LMAO!

Snicko picked up a noise after it passed the bat.

Hot spot showed nothing.

That's my issue with the decision.

It was probably high, but still think they should have gone on from that and they should in all instances which this occurs.

Like I said, if you stick to some obscure subforum over your minor, irrelevant sport, your cluelessness won't be mocked and ridiculed.

LMAO!

The way India dismantled 'favorites' NZ today is beautiful.

Did you hear his oath on behalf of entire NZ? " I guarantee they will never repeat this performance". Lol. I bet he had his hand on his heart

I hope India give Shubhman Gill and other youngsters a chance next match. Hopefully we will a get a closer match that way.

The lady commentator unravelled the mystery. There was no visible mark on hotspot because it hit the back of the bat. It seemed that snicko showed spike after it passed the bat because it hit the back of the bat

Man I'm going to lmao when you get rolled out of the WC.

Will be even better if it's Pakistan who destroys you, again.

This match is a useless match for India in view of world cup preparation. Apart from Shami's return to ODI bowling everything else is pretty much the norm. Wristies clicking, Top order clicking. Jadhav dropping, Rayudu Fumbling. Hope India gets to set a total next match instead of chasing every goddamn time.
