India (176/7) crowned champions of ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after a 7 runs victory against South Africa (169/8)

Some interesting tweets by 3rd umpire Kettleborough. He has some dig against Pakistani fans for questioning his decision of SKY catch LOL.

That’s a parody account. Ever since Musk took control of twitter, it is pretty easy to buy a tick mark with fake names (unless the real person contests it with the twitter team). If you feel aggrieved by his tweets, you can always raise a complaint to twitter moderation team for action.

You guys (conspiracy loving India haters from BD) need to try a bit harder than this to tarnish India’s victory.

Keep up the good work✌🏻

It’s ok he is a having a hard time he literally wished for every team to beat India but we just had a perfect WC..

Not at all.

I expect Aussies to comfortably defeat India in the upcoming home series and then in CT 2025 (along with WTC final).

Who care about Mickey Mouse World T20? It is a fun event like WWE.

It is quite an Irony when a poster remains too busy for almost a month creating multiple match threads (incl. those of associates like PNG & Oman) of a WT20 and then later when the results don't go his way, he claims that it's a Mickey Mouse Tournament and no one really cares about the result.

I haven't made any thread in cricket section in months.

You are confusing me with someone else maybe.

World T20 is like WWE as great Younis Khan has said. Even great Michael Holding said, "T20 is not cricket and Pollard is not a cricketer."

After England in 1890s and WI in 1980s/90s No team has beaten Australia 4 test series in a row. If you are bent on creating a narrative based on results that went against India you can't do much as he is not a cricket fan. True cricket fans appreciate good cricket. Wholesome praise from all the Pak cricketers and lot of Pak fans who are our arch rivals.

So all said and done, India's ended it's trophy drought and have bagged 1, even if we listen to doubters and jealous and trolls it is a "lightweight micky mouse one", but it is a trophy.

Question that now begs answering is when will Pakistan end it's famine, it's been 7 years since 2017 and there's only so many times PCT fans can watch CT'17 over and over again, at some point surely they will be asking in the depths of their heart and wondering?

"Mammoo aapni baari kaab aayegi"

At point does it become embarrasing for Pakistan, the land of Phast bowlers, wizard spinners and axe wielding batters, that they havent conquered an ICC title?

How long a rope does PCT get and more importantly when can PCT and Pakistani fans be trolled for not bagging an ICC trophy?

Should there be a countdown to PCT winning an ICC title??

Graeme Smith lauds Proteas Men’s performance at ICC T20 World Cup

League Commissioner, Graeme Smith has praised the performance of the Proteas Men’s team after the recently-concluded ICC T20 World Cup and noted the increased positivity around South African cricket, both locally and internationally.

The Proteas lost narrowly to India in a worthy Final. And Smith wished to congratulate the team.

“We at Betway SA20 are proud of the Proteas' achievements at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup,” Smith said.

“From the outset, the League, alongside Cricket South Africa, has wanted to provide South African cricketers with the opportunity to be exposed to a higher level of domestic cricket where the players are able to rub shoulders and learn from some of the best the game has to offer.

“Coupled with a unique fan experience that has brought the cricket-loving public back to our stadiums to support our heroes on the field, there is now a bridge that joins provincial and international cricket.

“Players are exposed to high-pressure and competitive cricket and this experience stood them in good stead in the US and Caribbean.”

He was particularly pleased to see the leading wicket-taker in the history of Betway SA20 Ottniel Baartman having made his debut at a global showpiece and excelling.

“Ottniel is the epitome of a Betway SA20 success story. A relatively unknown player before Betway SA20 that has transformed and grown in confidence due to experiences with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape is phenomenal,” Smith said.

“Despite playing in his very first T20 World Cup, he backed his skills under immense pressure. The four wickets against the Netherlands and the last over against Nepal definitely stands out.”

Smith feels the Proteas’ results in the US and Caribbean plays directly into the hands of Betway SA20’s overall objectives.

“People can be positive about cricket in the country again. These are things that are important to us. Smith said.

“Together with Cricket South Africa, we are committed to continuing to provide opportunities and platforms for our players to excel and inspire the next generation of cricketing talent in South Africa.

“Hopefully we have played a role in benefiting South African cricket through the SA20. It has been encouraging to hear players’ positive comments about the League throughout the T20 World Cup, with players crediting the opportunity it has created to contribute to South Africa’s cricketing talent.”

Smith also wished to congratulate Proteas' Men's T20 captain Aiden Markram on his superb leadership skills for the tournament.

“Aiden was particularly good during the tournament. He was tactically astute, had good plans and was brave enough to make the big calls and then get all his players to commit to it,” said Smith.

“We have of course seen Aiden captain in this manner before over the course of the past two Betway SA20 seasons, leading the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to back-to-back championship titles, but now he has transferred this experience to the international arena.

The entire Proteas T20 Cup squad are due to participate in South Africa’s premier T20 competition Season 3, which will commence on 9th January though until 8th February 2025.

Delhi Police Makes Strong Security Arrangements For Team India's Arrival

Anticipating a gathering of cricket fans to welcome the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team reaching Delhi on Thursday, the police have made adequate security arrangements at the airport and the hotel where the team will stay before leaving for Mumbai, officials said. The security arrangements have been made from the IGI Airport to the ITC Maurya Hotel where they will have a halt on Thursday, they said. The police have planned to provide them escort vehicles with armed policemen from the airport, where they are expected to land around 6 am after departing from Barbados' Grantley Adams International Airport in a chartered flight, a senior police officer said.

Adequate police force will remain deployed at the routes from the airport to the hotel. At least two companies of paramilitary personnel have been deployed around the hotel and routes in central Delhi, the officer said.

The police suspect that cricket fans may gather at routes or outside the hotel to welcome and cheer the team India for their victory in the T20 World Cup.

The squad will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 11 am at his residence and later go back to the hotel. The squad is expected to leave for Mumbai at 4 pm, he said.

The team will later take part in an open bus road show followed by a felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

T20 World champions arrive in Delhi to rousing reception

India’s T20 World Cup-winning team arrived in New Delhi early Thursday morning to a rousing welcome at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Fans, holding placards congratulating their favourite players, waving the Tricolour and shouting 'India, India', braved a steady drizzle and lined up outside the airport to welcome the victorious players.

The chartered Air India flight, with a special call sign -- AIC24WC - Air India Champions 24 World Cup -- left Barbados's Grantley Adams International Airport on Wednesday after being stranded there for three days due to the category 4 Hurricane Beryl.

Aboard the aircraft were the team, its support staff, the players' families, officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and travelling Indian media.

The team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi later at 11 am at his residence before flying to Mumbai, where a road show and felicitation function is scheduled at the Wankhede stadium.

The team will arrive in Mumbai at 4:00pm. The players are expected to reach the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), from where a two-hour open bus parade will begin at 5pm.

The open bus parade on Marine Drive will culminate at the Wankhede stadium.

Cricket is certainly a South Asian game.

Australia is different.. for football in European countries they get same rousing reception..

Australia is more mad about AFL and NRL.. the AFL Winning team has a large victory parade which is even crazier and sometimes violent due to drunk fans.. Imagine English win football world cup.. they will burn London down .

You are right.

If I am not wrong, it is losing popularity among English whites too even though they invented the sport.
It would be since they were really bad at it for the longest time.

Kinda proud of taking the sport away from England, feels like remuneration for colonial times.

The parade - what an great example of marketing. The parade itself is nothing new. But using the opportunity is great. One of the reasons BCCI is successful. They leave no opportunity unturned to keep the sport front and center in people's minds.

They could have just gone home and let the things be and move on. But no. They put together a full on show and tell. Thus garnering more support for the team and the sport in India. People's interest is likely increased and more vociferous. Keeps Indian cricket in the forefront of people's minds. Which translates into eyeballs on tv in the future. This in turn translates to $$$$$.

This is also a two birds with one stone situation. This PR event will also translate into bigger support and backing of fans for the IPL. I have no doubt about it. This will help IPL bigger.

A very good learning moment for ICC and the rest. Do not sit on your rear ends. Get up and work. No stone left unturned. No opportunity missed. Always promoting. Wonderful job by the people running BCCI.

The reality is the buzz was missing from this WC. Hardly saw people being excited to watch the game. Dunno if it had to do with previous failures or not. Also, for the first time, I didn't hear crackers go off. So yeah, BCCI must've known this and decided to make a spectacle from the win.

Also, looking at the crowd at the stadium makes two things clear:
1. Retire that useless Modi stadium. Wankhede is the only two stadium worthy of a final.
2. Hold LOI cricket events only in the subcontinent. The pitches can be adjusted in white ball cricket to bring the others into the game too.

India has every right to celebrate because they are the champions who remained undefeated throughout the whole tournament. They might as well win more trophies in the coming years.

Also, nothing against the Motera stadium. However, it should not be unduly preferred over other historic stadia like Eden Gardens, Chinnaswamy, Chepauk, Wankhede etc.

Yep, too much focus to make NM stadium the home of Indian cricket overnight didn't work for them. It should have happened organically.

Mumbai has always been the cricketing home. And it's far more well connected with the rest of India than Ahmedabad. And has the facilities to host people traveling into the city.

And yes this WC happened almost immediately after the much hyped up home WC in Nov that had a disastrous ending. Also honestly fans didn't expect India to win the t20 world cup with such an aging group and with a last minute parachuted captain. Luckily everything clicked.

Sunil Gavaskar shared his thoughts with a local media outlet:

"There were several. If you have a look at what this team did, they were champions in every different field. So while there was 'Player of the Tournament'. Jasprit Bumrah, who absolutely totally deserved to be the 'Player of the Tournament', the main man running the show was Rohit Sharma. So Rohit's captaincy is something that has to be admired because never once during tense situations did his body language go down."

"Yes, we have all got used to some of his grimaces and stuff like that, but that's okay...The way he handled the situation when it was not looking good for India, that is deserving of the highest praise. That is why his captaincy was the standout Indian performance of the tournament for me."
