What's new

India [189, 274] defeat Australia [276, 112] in the 2nd Test by 75 runs to level the series 1-1

Warner and smith deserve that wicket more than yadav, this is why you dont review marginal decisions especially when batsman isn't sure.

That missed by a long way..

Absolute rubbish from Marsh and Smith..What were they thinking?

Marsh looks so assured vs spin. All on Smith now.

No way!! Come on man . . have faith in your team . . This if overhauled will be the 5th highest chase ever in India . . and then you put into context the pitch and the pedigree of Ashwin and Jadeja on these sufaces . . there is no chance for Australia

Ghanta pedigree.

Are you watching Ash bowl?

If this was a fully fit peak Ashwin, I would have confidence. This version needs luck to bowl good spells.

Umesh is doing well....Jaddu is tight....Ashwin somehow managed a wicket....so right now, India maybe a touch ahead.

We need to take smith's wicket before 100 if we want to win here. Hopefully no one will drop his catch this time.

That's why teams shouldn't lose reviews for umpire's call. That fraction of an inch in Warner's review have affected two dismissals.

Well...well...well....

Umesh is winning a game for us. Atleast put us on the front.

This is Umesh and Kohli show.

Wahab Starc's bowling has won this for India. How many balls did he bowl too short and too legside?

I know Starc is an ODI ATG. But at Test level, he really is very similar to Wahab Riaz.

India getting the same suspicious reverse they got in the final Test v South Africa...........

Having spent hundreds of hours watching Wasim Akram at Old Trafford and Waqar Younis at The Oval, I know where that comes from........

Said it yesterday, this is just like Abu Dhabi 2012.

Jadeja hasn't even got started yet.

Using DRS properly so so important in these situations and in these conditions. Could potentially decide the fate of the game.

Now we know how Australia seem to get so many reviews correct. Secret codes from the dressing room? Pathetic.

That's the way to go. They should keep playing their shots. Can't block their way to the target on this pitch.

This Umpire Call is a joke and it is not funny anymore. It seems umpires don't want to learn and correct their mistakes.

India could have tightened it up in the initial overs. It would have been 20+ runs less at this stage! Anyhow this is 50-50 situation now.

Kohli not attacking enough here. No point in placing fielders on the boundary at this point. Should have one or two close fielders for the spinners.

For me, Australia are ahead at this stage. Once they pass the 100 mark, Indian heads will start to drop.

For India to believe they can win this, need Australia another 2 wickets down before they get there.

Also, what happened to Ashwin. Kohli does not seem to trust him to keep down runs/take wickets on a pitch with so many cracks?

Haha bro you just gotta have confidence . . Like i have been saying . . no chance for australia . . india to win by over 40 runs . .

Should try spinners from both ends for some time. Aussies will still prefer scoring runs of pacers!

Still see this as Australia's game to lose. If a wicket falls, they could even send Starc up the order and wrap it up quickly.

The mixed comments in this thread itself shows its 50:50 at this point. I think spinners should have bowled at both ends now for India to take advantage!

This over has killed India a bit and the balance has shifted! Pretty poor

People are stressing for no reason whatsoever, India would have to bowl horrendously if they are to lose from here....It's all but over for Australia I am afraid......

As a wager to my prediction I'll go on a no shave strike (for my face i.e.) for the next six months if the Aussies manage to chase this down :moyo

It's baffling to me how Ishant Sharma keeps making comebacks. Why is Shami not playing?

Any other team we would not have worried. But Australians are natural stroke-makers. I don't think any other team would have scored at a rate near to 4 on this pitch in 4th innings. That gives them the chance!

This game has totally drifted to India's favour! I was bit furious for Rahane/Pujara in the morning for the way they couldn't stretch the partnership further. But I think 100 runs partnership on this pitch is like 300 on other pitches. Well played by them!

Saw Saha fellas?

With the bat and the wk?

Ashwin has realized that overspin is the way to go on this pitch. The cracks will do the rest.

There was never any doubt

I don't mind it, defensive fields to prevent easy runs but keep bowling attacking lines to keep pressure on and create opportunities. It's a good tactic, especially when the wicket will do most of the work for you.

Too many people think you can't be attacking if you haven't a couple of slips and a short leg and that's complete rubbish.

Game. Well played, India. They've showed good character to bounce back in the second half of this match, after being humiliated by this average bunch of Aussies.

I hope India has some plans for Starc now. He could be dangerous.

Hopefully he gets out to Ashwin's tossed up one 4th time in a row.

But yeah, he is a scary scary batsman.

The only guy who can put even Jaddu out of his rhythm.

yapp we are n.o 1 test side in the world for a reason but lets see this match is not over yet....the gap between india and other teams will keep increasing though as we are keep playing like champion....but mitchel starc can change the game with couple of hits lets see.

For all those prematurely celebrating, it isn't over yet. Starc is far more dangerous than any of their batsmen barring smith and renshaw. A quick 30 could really hurt us especially if handscomb stays there.

Great position but still not over yet.

It's over bro, it had been since that Pujara/Rahane partnership.

See enough test matches in Asia on pitches like this to realise. It's always easier looking from outside in, as opposed to when you're a fan watching your team.

lol let's not go overboard bhai.

Our team is still out of form.

We are in this position due to sheer will power.

Ya..that was the phase wasn't it..amazing how much % of the win actually happens mentally..something imran always says

I agree but we have to look at the form of bowlers too.

Umesh twin strikes, DRS fiasco, Marsh review and FINALLY Ashwin bowling a good 2 overs changed it.

Its not easy to assume all of this will happen simultaneously when for the last 3 bowling innings, things have been very different.

Regardless of whether we win this match (and series), I think this series has helped to bring the best out of our top order batsmen who were riding on flat pitches, weaker opponents and late-order batting cushions! This will help India to build their team (mainly batsmen) especially for overseas. Thanks to Australian team for this treatment!

Aus lose 2 wickets 87 away from win. Coincidence?

We still need 2 wickets to win esp Starc, either ways match will be done by EOD.

They still have starc. Both handscomb and starc are capable to win it for australia, even on this pitch.

IMO that partnership changed the mental aspect from both sides, it created doubt in the mind of the Aussies, who've had it plain sailing so far and gave India the boost and bite they needed.

If Ashwin is struggling with injuries & form (he has done his role in this innings so far anyhow, which is good!) there is no harm in resting him for next 2 matches and get Kuldeep Yadav in the team to trouble the Aussie left handers!

More than matching skill to skill, I think Australia played good tactical cricket in this series for the success so far! Still I think India are better equipped and they can carry on this for rest of the series...
