India (231/4) defeat Bangladesh (228) by 6 wickets to make a triumphant start to their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign

Rana is not doing badly, let's consider him for the match against Pakistan.
Dude cannot swing the new ball and he bowls at 135k. Worse he cannot even execute at the death with Yorkers.

India should drop both Shami and Rana and play Varun and Arshdeep.

If Shami cannot be dropped, at least Rana must be dropped for Arshdeep.

As we saw today, Indian batting not that strong and we may have to defend a low total of India bowls first. Something that Harshit and Axar cannot. No real wicket taking options and no death bowling specialists.

Guys i just typed ********. Its a very innocent word . Yes, ******** should nit have been marked as *******

Arshdeep is a special bowler. Not that Pakistan is great at the moment but he can certainly trouble us more than Rana.

Why does Axar Patel bat so high up the order?

I really don't understand this? India need to play another batsman instead of a bowler. Against a good team like NZ or England etc it can catch them out having a short batting line up. Thought 2023 final would have clarified that.

True.

Another extra batsman in place of a bowler.

Bowling all rounders vs Batting all rounders. India has both.

Batting all rounders

Pandya
Nitish kumar Reddy
Riyan Paragh
Abhishek Sharma
Shivam Dube

Bowling all rounders

Jadeja
Sundar
Axar

Once KOhli/Rohit are out of the picture INdia will be a lot more flexible like they are in T20. You will have 7 or 8 bowlers. 8 or 9 batsmen most of them having top gear.

Arshdeep is 10 times the bowler than Rana is now.

Not hating on Rana. He is young and needs time. But his time is not now.

As it is, without Bumrah, India does not have a match winner with the ball. Arshdeep is the closest thing that India has in the absence of Bumrah. If India drops Arshdeep too, they have no real matchwinner with the ball. Only Kuldeep is.

Yeah ODI is the only format requiring great planning around team combination. The current NZ setup looks great. Bracewell, Phillips, their ace batsmen as spinning all-rounders. Santer can also whack it when needed.

228 was never going to really Test Indian batting lineup.

Any team that scores 275+ has a good chance of winning against India. Be it Pakistan or NZ.

My guess is, NZ will expose our weak bowling and shaky batting. They have the right kind of bowlers and batsmen to demolish India.

NZ's biggest advantage is they play IPL. Most of them are with CSK which is a massive plus. Playing on those tracks will keep you ready for spin attack.

Why Shami didn't get the MoM award.. a fifer is way better than a century anyday..
Batsmen for whatever reason gets preferential treatment from my observations as a cricket fan

While Shami bowled well, Gill also held the innings together and saw the team through to victory.

Both deserved it. Gill a bit more.

In any case there was no way BD was winning that match, even if Shami or Gill weren’t playing. So debating their relative merits is academic. For my books, either was ok.

Rana was swinging the new ball even more than Shami and was getting bounce and carry so no idea which match you were watching

His figures in almost every match has been very good so far.

This is just another example for Indian fans hating any new youngsters because they have a weird defensive mentality of wanting only known players and nothing else

Hating on someone who had figures of 3/31 and averages 19 in ODIs, is really weird. Your fantasy hate has no bearing on actual reality of his bowling.

Last 6 ODI games between BD and India, BD won 3 and India won 3.

Fielding depleted sides probably wouldn't have been a great idea. Just check what happened in Asia Cup 2023.

Agree on this.

Rana’s skill set wasnt enough on BGT tour but again its the 2 best Test nations competing at top level. You cannot expect a youngster to deliver on the trot. He was okayish but not enough.

But I would say, Rana was better than Prasidh and other fast bowlers coming through. He has better control. He just needs to develop better cricketing brain. Arshadeep is a better swing bowler IMO. But India can choose b/w them depending on conditions.

I am not sure how Shami will fare on slowish Dubai pitches. He is a seam bowler and slow pitches in Dubai doesnt suit his style. His pace-off deliveries lack control and I doubt how he will perform later in the tournament. But, counting him on his experience to deliver.

Of those, 2 ODIs came in dustbowl pitches of Bangladesh, part of the reason why BD is not competitive anywhere in the world.

Playing India B side would make the matchup more competitive I would say

It's the opposite. Axar is playing as a floater, not his usual position.

India's batting lineup is longer now as Jadeja is at 8 rather than at 7 during the WC final.

India have 5 bats and then three all rounders. Just that KL bats below Axar sometimes for the left handedness.

so 8 batsmen/6 bowlers

Based on his approach he is being used as a middle order pinch hitter against spin.

Yeah, since he took us to win.

Considering Rahul's wasn't particularly good behind stumps and fluffed an easy stumping chance which will haunt us against good teams, will Gambhir & Rohit give chance to Pant? Not that Pant has been any good in LoIs so far but anyone will be an upgrade over Rahul.

No they won’t. They will get destroyed.

That guy is clueless. Harshit is a special talent. He will destroy Pakistan and nz
