What's new

India [250, 307] defeat Australia [235, 291] by 31 runs to win the 1st Test

Some contribution from top order would have done it for Australia. Lower order is playing well.

Thats why it was idiotic batting by Rahane and rest of Indian lower order.

If Aus had a decent top order, they would have chased this.

Aussies need to kick out 5 of the top 7 batsmen from their team also I don’t know why Tim Paine is the captain. Aaron Finch opening and Tim Paine captaining shows how Aussies have regressed over the years.

Aussies playing well here but one more good ball or a poor shot and this game is over. Will get nerve wracking for the Indians soon. Too much to do for Aussie tailenders. Too little too late.

These two need to score 70-80 runs, can't trust Lyon or Hazelwood to win them the match.

Loving the new Channel 7 commentary, 9 had gotten awful and repetitive.

If India lose to this Aus team, it would be a new low for them.
Its not as if Indian batting is overflowing with batting talent. Except for Kohli, rest haven't done much away. Remember, this is Pujara's first ton in Aus despite touring it thrice.

As for Aus missing their 2 first choice bats, well its their own fault really.

This Aus team has lost the majority of matches they've played in all formats...

Similar case for India and WI (if you go back a bit more).

This Indian team is mentally stronger than all the Indian team put together. Sachin, Laxman, sewage etc all failed in their last tour and was embarrassed. Indian team was overrated in the past, this India’s team led by by a fighter like Kohli is the real difference

Apart from Kohli and Pujara, they're all mental midgets. Who cares about the last tour out of a 20 year career?

Cummins have played 100 balls here. Top order should take notice.

Good to see Mohammed Shami among the wickets :amla only bowler in the Indian Team with a large heart

From Cricinfo,

Most catches in a Test:

11 Jack Russell v SA, J'burg, 1995
11 AB de Villiers v Pak, J'burg, 2013
11* Rishabh Pant v Aus, Adelaide, 2018

How many at home? 0 tests I think.
Yeah and this team hasn't won a single Test since they suspended their two best batsmen.

It's like beating NZ without Kane and Taylor in the team or India without Kohli and Pujara.

Which is just the last test in SA (where Smith was useless anyway), and two in the UAE (one of which was drawn). So they've lost two tests since suspending Smith/Warner.

Ashwin has been really disappointing on this pitch. Perhaps Kuldeep would've been a better bet?

If they win, they say oh, its just an Aus 'C' team. If they don't, people say, they can't beat worst ever Aus team.

Should have really smashed this team. Just have a look through the batting line up. You'd struggle to name a weaker Aus batting line up from the last 20 years. Not a single world class batsmen in the team. No where near being world class or Test class.

Honestly, Australia have played better cricket. Just goes to show how important toss is these days. Sarfraz should thank his lucky stars that an even weaker Australian side could not even win 1 toss in UAE. Otherwise... :(

lol, and have you looked how bad Indian batting has been away, except for Kohli?

Lyon needs to make 40 runs and Aus can win.

All said and done, Aus are playing at home and against a team, most of whom are on their first Aus trip and are pedestrian anyway.

Runs in 70s... Keep going, you never know.

The usual 8th and 9th wicket partnerships taking the game away. Another 20 runs, and Aussies are back in it.

Ashwin has been crap, he should be dropped. Lyon took 6 wickets in 4th day against India.
And here Ashwin is leaking runs.

6 runs in this over. 10 overs like this will do.

Lyon got wickets because the batsmen were slogging after him. He was smart so he bowled wide and slow.

Ashwin needs to focus on less variation and get the ball to loop in from below the tailenders’ eyes.
