India [250] beat Australia [242] by 8 runs in 2nd ODI, take 2-0 series lead

I guess Jadeja experiment is done. They tried to give him as many chances as possible. Chahal will be back again.
 
I know Chahal will be back. But Jadeja will be recipe for disaster on flatties of Eng in WC. And hence it's beyond any cricketing sense to let him play so many ODIs.
 
If not for his pedestrian batting, India would have been firm favourites to win this game by now.
 
Even with the nature of the pitch Australia should win it from here. No need to panic. India were 20 runs short.
 
Good bowling by Kuldeep despite that one bad over where they connected a few. Can happen. Did his best to keep India in the game.
 
Regardless of what happens What a champion bowler Bumrah is. India looked down and out at the start of the over.

Tbh, the moment we scored 240, it was game on. I wasn’t sure whether we will win or lose, but i was confident our bowlers will make a game out of this.

But we should have scored 270 on this pitch. When our batting doesn’t click, we always end up scoring about 10-20% less. If it’s around 10% less, our bowlers are generally good enough. When it’s greater than 10% we end up losing.
 
Match is on a knife edge. Stoinis is trying to block out Bumrah in 48th over with 21 to get. Bold move!!

I would actually pick him in the first 11, but inplace of hackidu not pandya because he ain't no finisher.

Vijay Shankar is going to be even more handy in England conditions during this world cup. Dhoni can ball eat while Vijay and Hardik can go at a higher strike rate.

Yeah both Shankar & Pandya should be in XI along with Bumrah + Shami/Bhuvi and two spinners should be Kuldeep & K.Jadhav.... This should be perfect bowling unit and we can compete with England nicely! Perfect for English conditions!

Pandya is a useless bowler. Kindly stop fooling yourself. Performing once in 6 matches won't make him an allrounder. Pandya is just like Anwar Ali.
 
Technique wise Shankar seems to be in the top 4 of the Indian Odi team. Hitting ability wise pandya is way superior. That said, a match clinching over does magic to someone's confidence. Pandya was not the same and improved way better after the wt20 vs. bangla 1 run win match

As a bowler no, but that's more down to the fact that india would trust with the ball much more if he went for 13 in the first over thus the bowling unit not needing to cover for his so much.

depends on what you want as bowler, if he gives india 6 overs a game for 30 he has done his job even if he picks no wickets. He isn't bumrah or a kuldeep if you want something like that you have expectations that are not realistic and you have to consider the fact that he plays at 7 a position where we either have guys who can't bowl as well as him or can't bat as well as him. Do you have a replacement at 7 you would prefer who can help india play the 2 leggies.

I think you expect a lot from Pandya and are cruel about him! Even the team expected a lot from him (playing him in Tests!) I think he will be fine if treated like Shankar... Don't forget Pandya won the single Test match in England and there are many impressive performances by him but you are looking at the several matches where he had to take the burden of failures by batting lineup and failures of bowling lineup! (regular batsmen & bowlers) That is too much to ask from him! And remember that it is not easy to find fast bowling alrounders in India (or SC for that matter)

People with goldfish brains have forgot that Pandya was Man of the series last time Australia were here for ODI's.
 
Gavaskar now explaining Shankars last over and his thought process like his soul mate. Funny thing is he wanted Kedar to bowl.

Why not? The idea of Rayudu is to find a batsman at no. 4.

If Vijay Shankar can do a better job than Rayudu, then surely he deserves a spot.

As much as I hoped Rahul would make it, he has not. He is not there in ODIs to make it as the solid no.4. It has to be Rayudu vs Shankar as of now.

What Shankar can do with the ball is added benefit.

Pandya is playing for the 3rd pacers and the hitters slot. Vijay Shankar and Pandya are not competing for the same slot.

I am a mumbaikar myself, he isn't much of a bowler but he has shown in his limited chances that he looks a better batsman than hackidu against any decent bowling attack.

Exactly. Bumrah + Kuldeep + Chahal + Shami (or Bhuvi) are good enough to give us match winning 40 overs. We need 10 support overs where we dont throw the match away. Pandya does that with some help from Jhadhav (in the matches there is something for spin)
 
A perfect revenge match/repayment from jadeja 8/9 years ago for losimg despite sachin's score of 175 when jadeja lost the match by throwing his wicket away. I enjoyed stionis look and hanscombe look today. Both were shell shocked just like most Indians were on that night at Uppal.
 
I think in all this shankar discussion we are forgetting effort from bumrah, first 4 overs 19 for no wickets next 6 10 for 2. What a find he has been for india.

Reason is Bumrah is expected to do by default lol. Shankar's is a fairytale story.

I think he should be rested for MI's first 10 league games and should only play in a few games leading up to the play-offs. He is way too valuable for India to be risking an injury in that circus league.
 
Shikhar Dhawan is a concern. He can be blasted out by fast bowlers and also off spinners. People like to romanticise him by saying he is an ICC trophy bully, but that is just crap. This is absolute loss of eye.

I will not worry about Dhawan. He was under similar form before CT 2017. Once the tournament started, he became a monster. He is the best opener along with Rohit we have.

Both Rohit and Dhawan were scoring big runs for fun until the Aisa cup. He will come good.

Major concern is still the middle order and lower order hitting ability.
