What's new

India (267/6) defeat Australia (264) by 4 wickets to qualify for the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2025

This is India's CT to lose. NZ and SA have always chocked in the ICC finals therefore both team's pose no threat to India. India has all bases covered.
Yep. India has essentially won the championship by defeating Aussies. At present, the only team capable of beating then is a full strength Australian side.

Its sometimes a bit unfair how the media works in subcontinent/England.

Babar got rightfully pilloried for his match killing 64(90) but even Kane Williamson and Steve Smith got stuck very badly in their respective inns and aren't being called out much by media.

The role of the anchor batter is under scrutiny now in ODIs. You cannot gum up the inns anymore

The only silver lining about this Aus defeat is Head once again got exposed. If CWC final had India winning toss and Aus batting first on a sluggish pitch he would have scored less than 40 there as well. Head needs at least 3 of flat pitch/toss/home conditions/missing best bowlers to do his thing. More and more he will be exposed now. One time I supported this guy and he could not even play Chakravartha

Why so much hate for head lol

Ravichandran Ashwin, while speaking on his YouTube channel:

"You start looking for someone to put the blame. Someone tagged me in a tweet that Kuldeep didn't perform well today. I genuinely don't understand how people come up with such conclusions."

"Rohit's game plan was to attack Steve Smith, Marcus Labuschagne, and Josh Inglis with left-arm spinners. That's why, for the first time ever, Rohit brought in Kuldeep during the powerplay. Rohit knew they had two left-handers in the team and Inida could use left-arm chinaman bowler against them. Yes, Kuldeep was used in the powerplay, and was smashed for a six by Head over mid-on. But, he did bowl well to Head within the powerplay."

"You shouldn't decide on the bowling prowess of a player by looking at the wickets column after the match. This is not how limited overs cricket functions. There are lot of factors like when you are bowling, when you are asked to come back for your second spell and so on."

"Yes, Varun Chakravarthy came and took out 5 wickets. Guys, I am saying, please understand, Varun Chakravarthy's novelty factor is going on. His identity, I mean, how is his bowling coming, because it is an X factor. That's why people are watching and playing, and they are not ready to take such a risk."

"He is a new player. Of course, for us, Varun Chakravarthy is gold. But do not lose out on the diamond that Kuldeep Yadav is. Please estimate how his bowling is going. Please do not estimate by wickets. And people say that he has experience and he should do more. What can we do? Should we take out all 10 wickets? It doesn't happen in one-day game or T20 game. And someone has also said that he didn't put so well in the final of T20 World Cup. Please, please watch how he bowls and not go by the end figures."

Ashton Agar, while speaking on a sports media outlet:

"That's the frustrating part about bowling to him. He has this fantastic ability to hit your best ball, the top of middle stump, slightly spinning away, he holds the bat's face slightly longer than other batters do, opens it in the last second, and hits it in the cover point gap. He's probably the best in the world at doing that and he's very difficult to build pressure on."

"India batted around Virat beautifully. The guys who came in kept pushing the rate and allowed Virat to do his thing, hit the odd boundary and just keep ticking over. I saw a stat that Virat has scored the most singles since the year 2000, which is phenomenal. It was a bit of a masterclass from him and all the batters contributed nicely."
