What's new

India [305/9] beat Pakistan [245] by 60 runs in the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup 2019

Only Haris Khan and Rohail look decent class others don't have much future.

I'm not sure about Haider Ali

Where’s that 14 year old kid from Swabi who got selected in the past couple of months ago?

Pakistan collapsing now. Abbas Afridi gone for 6 runs. 185/6

Rohail Nazir is still there and is on 92 (92)

If Rohail and Naseem can be the real deal then results won't matter. You normally need to 1-3 talented players in every U19 team that can represent national team.

Let’s see what Sarfraz does in the Sri Lanka ODI series.

He has lost pretty much weight and I see hunger to succeed in his eyes again.

We should give him one last chance.
Sarfraz was never special and is no longer the player he was 3-4 years back. Back then he could rotate strike in middle overs and accelerate a bit too at the end.
Now he is struggling with fitness and form both.
This was illustrated in england odi series before WC where in one of the games he just coudnt run or hit balls with any power and we lost that match with him standing not out.

This guy Rohail has shown hunger and consistency.
I hope he works harder now

Sarfraz was and is a medicore player. He just had a purple patch where he score a few tons in the UAE. He is bang average now.

Rohail Nazir 103*

213/6 in 39 overs

Can they do it?

This guy Rohail looks like the best player in the match.. a hundred while chasing! Wow Pakistan does have some good batsmen upcoming.

220/6 after 40 overs, 86 runs required to win in 10 overs
Rohail Nazir 117 (107)
Naseem Shah 10 (20)

Looks like its curtains for us!

Rohail Nazir out for 117 - excellent innings but needed more people to stay with him

No!!!

Rohail Nazir gone for 117 ( 108b 12X4 3X6)

Brilliant innings, now pretty much Pakistan are out of the tournament

Pakistan has failed to reach the semifinal for the 2nd consecutive year

Last year they were defeated by Bangladesh & Sri Lanka

They are the 5th best u19 side in Asia now

Captain Rohail Nazir scores fighting hundred as India beat Pakistan in ACC U19 Asia Cup 2019 match

Karachi, 7 September 2019:

Rohail Nazir led from the front but Pakistan lost their ACC U19 Asia Cup 2019 Group A match against India by 60 runs at the Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa on Saturday. Before the start of the match the two teams observed a minute’s silence in the memory of legendary Test leg-spinner Abdul Qadir who passed away yesterday in Lahore.

Set a 306-run victory target, Pakistan were dismissed in the 47th over for 245 runs to lose their second successive match in the tournament following the 85-run loss to Afghanistan on Thursday.

Batting at number three, the right-handed Rohail, scored 117 runs off 108 balls with the help of 12 fours and three sixes to keep Pakistan in the run despite the fall of wickets from the other end.

Rohail added 120 runs for the fourth wicket with Mohammad Haris in the most productive partnership of the innings. Haris scored 43 off 53 balls, his innings included two fours and one six. Rohail fell in the 41st over with the score at 220.

Pakistan were eventually dismissed in 46.4 overs, for India, Atharva Ankolekar took three wickets for 53 runs in his 10 overs while Vidyadhar Patel took two for 28 in nine overs.

Earlier, centuries by opener Arjun Azad (121 off 111 balls, 11 fours and four sixes) and number three batsman Tilak Varma (110 off 119 balls, 10 fours and one six) propelled India to their eventual 305 for nine total.

The two added 183 runs for the second wicket after the other opener Suved Parkar was dismissed for three runs by Abbas Afridi after a 38-run opening stand.

Pakistan bowlers led by Naseem Shah (3 for 52) brought the team back in the hunt as India lost eight wickets for 73 runs to slide to 294 for nine from 221 for 1 in the 38th over. Afridi took three wickets for 72 runs.

Scores in brief (According to information received from Asian Cricket Council):

India U19 beat Pakistan U19 by 60 runs

India U19 305- 9 in 50 overs (Arjun Azad 121, Tilak Varma 110; Naseem Shah 3-52, Abbas Afridi 3-72)

Pakistan U19 245 in 46.4 overs (Rohail Nazir 117, Mohammad Haris 43; Atharva Ankolekar 3-53, Vidyadhar Patel 2-28)

Pakistan’s next fixture – 9 September: Pakistan U19 vs Kuwait U19

They're better than BD and Sri Lanka as shown by their last series

U19 cricket is all about about individual performances. Yes winning is good, but it's hard to win even if you only have 2-3 mediocre players in the team, especially bowlers. 10 overs combined from 2 bowlers went for 80.

We just need to keep an eye out for players with potential, such as Haider, Rohail, Naseem and Haris.

Haider disappointed big time

2 failures is disappointing to you? Thank god you're not the selector.

Yes, because an athlete can never have a bad game or two. They're a bust if that happens. Of course.

The guy perfomed against a minnow team (Sa) and people were hyping him to the moon.
In terms of THAT hype he's failed to deliver and hence is a disappointment so far
I didn't say anything wrong
I want him to regain his form it's beneficial for Pakistan

Minnow team :))

His previous performances show he has ability. That's no guarantee for success, a lot of players have looked good and made runs at Under-19 level and faded off the scene, vice versa also happens a lot.

They are minnows
They were thrashed 7-0 by a second tier team

Second tier team? Wasnt Pak in the semis of the last U19 WC, was runner up in 2014 and have won 2 WCs and has played knockouts stages regularly as well (barring few exceptions). While team you are calling minnow won the U 19 WC in 2014.

Its just Asia cup, WC is next year. Dont get too rilled up about Asia cup loss and let that make you overlook the facts.

As its not the first time I am witnessing teams being call minnows, second tiers or powerhouses on the basis of couple of matches or series.

How's 2014 related to now?
U19 teams change completely in 2-3 years

Pak u19 is second tier
First tier is Aus, eng and Ind you can't argue with this

Second tier doesn't mean minnow fyi.
Second tier includes the above average teams
Minnows are third tier and possibly even lower that

In just 5 years SA wont start producing minnow level players. Yes some crop of youngsters can be better or worse than the previous U19 squad but that doesnt make any team a minnow in my opinion. Just because Pak beat them 7-0 doesnt mean suddenly SA structure has finished and they have become minnow.

Eng, Aus and India is first tier convincingly in international cricket but at U19 levels other than India its arguable even if we see historical performances and consistency. Though there systems are good enough to even make a decent cricketer into an exceptional one and I hope our new systems can also be such like.

Afg match was a poor one but these players are still young and I believe talented enough to do decently in the WC.

I personally don't take U-19 results seriously.

U-19 is pretty much a training facility. Whoever does well gets to join national team.

Based on what? Your imagination? Bangladesh won the last match between the two teams and this Naseem Shah kid was destroyed by BD batters.

Bangladesh beat India a few months ago in a tri-series in England and also beat England 3 times (with 1 game being tied) in that series in English conditions.

Too bad Pakistan have been kicked out by India and the Afghans so Bangladesh won't get the chance to beat them again.

😂
Now now, don't get triggered over an u19 match
Your team is losing a test match to afg. Shameful

You lot got thrashed by us at Lord's. Shameful

trust me s.africa will always be a strong test side. odi I don't know anymore. But for tests they are always good. pakistan beat a good s.african team. They are just going through a transition phase.

They still have good bowlers like bosch, simpala waiting in the lines.

That’s bitter..pain of regularly losing to afghans reflects in this post.

Arjun azad to look out for! Another one from punjab. Haryana, punjab are becoming good breeding for young talent

Oh please!

We've seen the likes of Vijay Zol, Unmukt Chand, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw and the other 'to be looked out fors' come and go. The U-19 is by no means a yardstick to judge any player.

These bumpkins seem content with having their share of the limelight, and picking up an IPL contract. Most don't seem to have the commitment and mindset to play for the country at the highest level. It's the one thing they should learn from Rahul Dravid but aren't.

Agreed! IPL is a major distraction for young talents. I hope BCCI really promote longer format to younger audiences

U19s isn't the yardstick but it reflects what sort of talent the system is producing. Pleasing to see Gill and Shaw performing in first class and knocking on doors. Zol and Chand weren't tough enough mentally.

Rahul was a gun young talent with good mental toughness. He also had to perform in first class and fought his way to a first drop in test team.

If every player from U19 made it we will have new team every two years.

Dravid played five full domestic seasons before playing for India. Doesn't mean mean he was a 'has been' before he was ready for national team. Zol and Chand aren't good enough players to even make their state teams. Gill and Shaw have played a season of domestics and have succeeded by any parameter. They are doing what Dravid was doing 20 years back.

Exactly! It's not about winning the tournament... you can win a tournament with less talented players who have gelled well together but they wont make it to the national team.

The most important part is that players from U19 step up to the national team like Babar Azam did... if we get a couple of players from this age group to play for the national team, this era was successful...

Sad to see the only thing bd fans can gloat upon is "asia cup" be it is senior team or junior team and if one can review overall performances in asia cup there is nothing spectacular .

As far u19 talent is concerned Pakistan u19 product Shaheen shah destroy your overrated bunch in worldcup recently while one the other hand your u19 product mehdi mehraz is struggling to create a impact against the mighty Afghanistan that too on a rank turner of mirpur ahhahahahahahahahah

I wish you guys have little understanding about fast bowling but cannot blame the fans like you because your team is full of trundle and yet to produce anything significant in that department

Not the right time to be cocky for a Bangladeshi fan. Things are going downhill for us.

India U-19 will probably win the U-19 Asia Cup. They are clear favorites.

England should not be anywhere near first tier. when did they last win u19 wc?

Aus india and Pakistan are the real big 3.

are you dense? gill and Shaw average over 60 in first class lmao. They are literally screaming out loud to play for India. Indian politics is ruining these talents by letting them rot on bench and instead picking fodders like Rahul, vijay, etc

Selection is based on your association with top marketing brand. They sign a contract for an year or two. if you don't find your place in the squad it is all waste. So these brands influence the selection in a big way. Once GIll finds his top sponsor he won't be dropped even when scores a series of ducks.

so how do less popular players get a chance to play? I mean those talented ones without sponsors?

Clueless post lmao
Whining about IPL doesn't make one an Indian cricket expert
Pretty sure u don't follow domestic matches

Shaw
FC avg 60
List A avg 40
Played 2 tests innings, got a century and a half century

Gill
FC avg 83
List A avg 46
Played just 2 Odis,he will get his chances

Both are just 20
Have succeeded at every level they have played but they are failure for you because they are getting good pay in IPL at such young age which Hyderabad cricketers can only dream off

How?

Maybe better than SL
But not Bangladesh
Bangladesh had a very good tour of England

They won games against India & England

For me they are favourite to win this Asia Cup with some of our top players missing

Don't take these results seriously, under 19 is the stage where players devolp their skills.I am confident our under 19 team will do well in this world cup in south africa.Ejaz ahmed is an good coach to guide these boys and polish their skills.

An average of 60 based on 12-15 FC games doesn't cut it, no matter what the chest thumping, clueless fan club thinks.

Aren't I happy that the likes of you aren't selecting the team!

Shaw showed promise but has bottled it with the doping scandal. I really hoped the best for him. What a massive scre**up!

Gill failed in the two chances he got in New Zealand. Maybe he should have been given more chances, but I reckon the selectors thought he needs more FC experience before he can be exposed to an international quality bowling attack. And maybe they were right.

The less said about Chand and Zol the better.

I'm not a big fan of Indians selectors but selecting a player in the national team based on performances in the U19 and a couple of odd FC games is idiotic. I'm happy they aren't going down that route. They should be looking more at players like Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari and Manish Pandey who have been performing consistently over 50+ FC games.

The others can play pajama parties like IPL and be happy with that.

Shaw got injured before the Aussie tour and also should have played vs england. I am sure he would have scored more than what vijay, Rahul and dhawan did combined in a single test itself. He is exceptionally talented. bumrah too only had a few first class games and look how that turned out?

a world class talent is exactly that. world class. Shaw and gill are both world class talents. They will perform in tests. They are far better test players than odi. I agree more guys like vihari should be given a chance.

There are still guys like dube (future superstar) and amolpreet singh waiting in the lines too. Too many good prospects but ofcourse the selection board is wack.

Anyway had Shaw and Mayank started every game vs s.africa and England, india would have probably won the series there despite losing tosses.
