What's new

India [493/6d] beat Bangladesh [150 & 213] by an inns and 130 runs in the 1st Test, lead series 1-0

Bangladesh bowling lineup of today's game will take atleast 6 sessions to bowl out India..fast bowlers who didn't even played 10 test matches and 2 spinners likely ineffective against this Indian lineup..centuries up for grab for both Indian batsmen and Bangladesh bowlers...

True, ebadat hossain has an average of 196... dont know how these guys were even selected for the national team.

I really like the Bangladesh team and wanted them to outperform the whining Saffers, very disappointed with their approach today when we were so charitable with the drops. Now it is going to get ugly I guess.

Where is Rubel, Tashkin, Fizz etc and why they not playing? BD fans? Surely they are better bowlers than what we are seeing now.

What is the reason for India to play full strength team against such a weak opponent? Kohli should have stayed back home. This was the perfect oppurtunity to try Shubhman Gill.

Next year we are playing only 5 tests, maybe that is why Kohli didn't want to miss out on the action. Also a historic D/N test coming up in Eden Gardens, it is being hyped up a lot and I am sure BCCI wants to see all Indian stars take the field.

Rohit gone for 6 :). Shows how bowling friendly these conditions are and what a blunder bangladesh made by batting first!!

lol..

As I said earlier, you might have spoken too soon...

That abu jayed looks similar to abbas from pakistan. Has a similar speed and wicket to wicket going style too.

The only team that can give fight to India in a home test is Australia and to a certain extent Pakistan. Rest all are pure formality.

Pakistan around 2015 yea, not.the one now. There isn't one department where they aren't severely inferior to india to do so.

They would still do better than most because of the conditions - Opposition is stronger yes but atleast conditions will be in their favor.

I agree with this. pakistan will always be the toughest match up for india and vice versa in tests at home.
australia would get annihilated.

Home like conditions, plays spin better, got decent seamers, pressure game etc.

Not saying Pak will beat us but surely they will give a much better fight than what SA gave or BD doing currently.
Agree with Ind-Pak pressure thing and them giving better fight than BD or SA.

However Pakistan have been very poor themselves even in UAE which was once their impregnable fortress. So as someone said, may be Pakistan of '15 but not the current one.

Smith with current form vs Indian bowlers with SG ball in India will be a dream battle.
Agree with this. And Australia's return test series should've been in India next year. However its us who'll be travelling to Australia for the return series, don't know why?

Stumps.

We are just 64 runs adrift of BD's first innings total, with 9 wickets in hand...

Greentop, eh?

Its only Bangladesh who couldnt win against Afghanistan even with Shakib and Tamim in the side. Series like this are only their for players ti improve stats.

Stumps - Day 1
India 86/1 (26ov)
Bangladesh 150

Disappointing performance from BD yet again.

To be fair, I was expecting India to manhandle BD in Test.

India were troubled only rarely on the first day of the first Test in Indore as they ended at 86/1, a deficit of 64, after their excellent bowlers had bundled out Bangladesh for 150 on Thursday, 14 November.

Bangladesh won the toss, but on a pitch with a subtle tinge of green down the middle, Mominul Haque, their new Test captain, decided to bat. That suited the Indian pace attack just fine. They broke through within six overs, and apart from a 68-run for the fourth wicket between Mushfiqur Rahim and Haque, the bowlers bossed the innings.

Bangladesh did well initially with the ball. Ebadat Hossain and Abu Jayed kept things tight, and when Rohit Sharma was dismissed, the visitors enjoyed their first real phase of control in the match. But Cheteshwar Pujara and Mayank Agarwal quickly ensured that was a brief moment, and their unbroken 72-run partnership helped India through to stumps without anything more eventful.

The day began with the Indian pacemen showing yet again why they are so feared these days. Ishant Sharma tempted Shadman Islam into a drive, and the batsman was promptly caught behind for six. Imrul Kayes followed suit in the next over off Umesh Yadav, and when Mohammad Mithun was deceived by Mohammed Shami’s swing and was trapped in front, Bangladesh were 31/3, and all the Indian paceman were among the wickets.

It was then that Rahim and Haque got together. It wasn’t the most comfortable partnership – both batsmen were dropped, with Mushfiqur particularly fortunate to survive twice after edging Umesh Yadav and R Ashwin, with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane dropping the catches when he was on 3 and 14 respectively.

Slowly, they recovered, and nudged and prodded their way to add 68 runs. It helped boost the total to 99, but Ashwin got the breakthrough with a sliding delivery from around the wicket to Haque, and that triggered an almighty slide.

Mahmudullah went across his stumps but was bowled by Ashwin, and Shami then took consecutive wickets with a brilliant display of swing bowling at the stroke of tea. He accounted for Mushfiqur and Mehidy Hasan, and Bangladesh were 140/7. It didn’t take long for India to bundle them out in the final session.

India were tied up for a bit early in their first innings, with Rohit falling for six to Abu Jayed, flashing at one outside off. However, when Pujara walked out, he was in a rare mood. Having settled down, he launched into an attack on the bowlers – executing the cut to delightful effect repeatedly – and with Agarwal doing his bit to find the fence every other over, Bangladesh were under the pump.

Agarwal could have been dismissed had Kayes held on to a straightforward chance off Jayed late in the day, but the reprieve meant India ended the day in firm control.

You mean the guy who bullied spinners on a dewy night but was like cow on ice against them in the previous matches?

You are a bit harsh about him IMO, dewy night or not he seems to have quite a few shots in his arsenal and has a pretty solid game awareness for a player this new, he chose the timing of the counterattack with almost perfection, it was really brave of him going after Chahal from ball one trying to neutralize the major threat to his team. End of the day you are entitled to your opinion but I think he will go on to replace Tamim, has the intelligence that Liton or Soumya lacks.

I watched the previous matches and it seems he is not yet ready. Not writing him off.

We have to make a game of it, boys must show heart. Losing Test in India was beyond doubt, but they must have to make an effort today with ball and with bat later in the Test. Hopefully, I’ll watch some game in this weekend, for a Thursday start .....

Bro why is going Naim not part of the test team

Very impressed by what I saw from Abu Jayed. A real beauty to dismiss Rohit Sharma.

This guy will be a bowling superstar by 2021. You heard it here first.
Mamoon - Rohit flopping against lateral movement once again. I think you overhype him too much.

Pujara gone! World's 4th ranked test batsmen who even Aussies were struggling to dismiss in their own home has been dismissed by another beauty by Abu Jayed! Tbh only Abu Jayed has been looking threatening so far, hopefully others will pull up their game!

Picking up wickets of Rohit and Pujara in their home is no small feat! Abu Jayed keep your head high and keep bowling hard, hopefully can inspire the rest of bangladeshi team to put up some fight against the mighty indians and show some bengali tiger spirit!

Kohli is out for a duck!

Jayed got his third wicket.

Can Bangladesh make a game out of this?

India - 128/3.

omg, just missed Kohli's dismissal but wow! hands down to Abu Jayed for showing heart in his bowling and and dismissing not only the fourth ranked test batsman but then dismissing the second ranked test batsmen in the world for a DUCK! Not to mention that he was coming after a break so that he could concentrate just on test cricket!

A bit surprised to see no Mehidy yet. It has been 35 overs.

India - 130/3 after 35 overs.

They are still trailing by 20 runs.

And kohli that is why you don’t keep taking vacations after every other series
Agree with this. He goes on too many vacations. Well, he can go on as many vacations he wants, but not at the cost of international cricket.

However fit he may be, he can't come anywhere near Tendulkar's match fitness who played a decade of continuous international cricket without taking a single break.

Jayed has been quite expensive (despite his three wickets). Ebadot was more economical.

Indians trying to counterattack Abu Jayed but he should not lose his composure and keep bowling his line and length, attacking shots involve higher risks! also need ebadat hossain to keep bowling tight. This is the most important period of play for bangladesh in this match! Another couple of wickets will turn this match upside down!

India - 138/3 after 37 overs.

BD need to get some quick wickets to make things interesting.

Erasmus had to revert his stupid decision hahaha He was trying to glance outside the leg stump. He gave him out.

And then people say we should rest Rohit, Kohli, Dhawan for series like this. Imagine them coming back and losing their form. Then we neither have a top order nor a middle order.

or maybe we can just say it was some exceptional bowling from Abu Jayed that cost Kohli his wicket? Little bit of credits towards Bangldesh team wouldn't hurt.

Lol, now that the shoe is on the other foot, it is hurting you....

What? got no idea what you are trying to say but how does anything about my comment make you post such a comment? I was literally just saying that instead of just saying Kohli is out of form from lack of cricket etc, it wouldn't hurt to give the bowler some credits on his bowling too.

Agarwal shows the importance of first class slogging. Those who come up through ranks value their wicket more than these falshy players.
