India beat New Zealand by 190 runs in the 5th ODI, win series 3-2

5 wickets at hand, 7 balls to go & IND is not on a safe total - I can sense someone did an Azhar Ali job today.

Poor series for both Rohit and Guptill..

Scored a half century in one game and went missing in all other games.

Clearly,both have seen struggles when conditions are bowler friendly.

Those strike rates are unacceptable in ODI's.

Feel for Manish Pandey. He is very talented and failed badly this series. Hope he gets more opportunities.

The pitch wasn't any easy by any means to bat on. 270 is a good score.
 
Kohli and Rohit knocks look very valuable now on this pitch. We have a test match at this venue against England which should feature 3 spinners definitely.

In last game as well, the pitch slowed down and run making was difficult.
 
There is a huge gulf of difference between Ish Sodhi and Mishra. I am happy with the way India have handled NZ spinners in tests and in ODIs. Especially Santner. He is a quality but India haven't given away many wickets to him which augurs well for the series against England who doesn't have any spinners better than Santner.

Still doesn't justify 74/8.
And the ball was turning during the indian innings as well, not our problem your spinners cannot take advantage of the conditions.

Slowing down is one thing..

Breaking down and giving the team bowling second an advantage is entirely another.

Can't exactly look to survive either as you have to score at a good clip too.

Ball is not turning square. There is decent turn, but it is slow. Ball is not zipping past the outside edge. This is no rank turner you are making it out to be.

Kiwis are just hopeless against slightest amount of turn. The same thing happened during Tests.

Mishra wasn't causing too many issues early on, it was only latter in his spell that he started to get it to turn sharply.

Rank turners turns from the first ball.

This pitch only became more and more difficult to bat with wear and tear, making the toss crucial and chasing scores of 220+ against a turning ball impossible.

I had an issue with average players like Ashwin having ATG records as a result of the pitches.

He's average IMO till he actually performs outside the SC against good sides.

Kiwis generally seems like nice guys and as the old saying goes nice guys finish last. That's why I guess Brendon had a huge impact on kiwis and why they did well

Need someone to be captain who had a lot of energy and aggression

No matter how much it turns there's no excuse for an international side to lose 8/16. Nobody made excuses when Sri Lanka were getting bummed on greentops in England earlier this year or when Australia were making 60 all out last year; everyone conceded that they were simply incompetent in those conditions and England were just too good in them.

Yeah we were horrible tonight.

But the main reason why that happened was the players quitting after realizing they had zero chance of chasing 270 on that wicket.

This. Asian fans have a huge inferiority complex.

Everyone was praising Anderson's skills when he was swinging it miles in cold damp conditions against Sri Lanka at Durham. But when Asian spinners pick wickets on turners, the wickets suddenly become atrocious. It's almost as if people don't want the ball to move an inch from its trajectory and then it's a "wonderful track".

Perhaps Asian sides should start whining about green pitches and helpful conditions when they get caught against the moving ball outside Asia.

Watch the clip of the last wicket, the pitch was definitely crumbling.

Sure we were horrible with the bat, but you can't ignore that collapse occurred the moment the pitch started to play tricks.

Pitches where the toss gives a team such a big advantage (especially in LOI's) are terrible.

Even a team of competent batsmen would have struggled to chase 220+ on it.

That separates man from the boys. Man fight against all odds, May loose but never give up. If your boys gave up then they should better play backyard cricket, International cricket is not for them. Wake up, smell a coffee, no international side will babysit your team!!

If Ashwin is a mediocre and turning out ATG because of pitches, Your team and every visiting is full of mediocre spinner and yet to perform enough to clean his shoes.
 
The Indians have softened up NZ for us !!! I am sure Yasir Shah can't wait to have a go at these guys
 
NZ are same as SL..

Fair to say both are below average these days.

Aus, SA, Eng,Ind and Pak are the five best teams out there.

The Indians, in their own den .. not easy to mess with Surprised that they tried some new players in the decider !! I guess, it is OK to carry one passenger in the team ... but he did well too. So they will be a force to reckon with in the next WC event. Kohli is absolute gem for them, seems to enjoy batting under pressure .... mark of a true batsman.

A respectable average of around low 30's, a few 5fers and match winning performances is all he needs. Isn't too difficult, now is it? Yasir already has 2 in England.
 
Well deserved victory by the second string team that's the way to prepare your bench strength. Very impressed by kedar jadav off spin :murali. Dhoni as always shepherding the team like a boss, team has a few weak links like Rohit sharma and Ajinkya rahane at the top and lack of a finisher, rest is fairly alright.

Think the batsmen have it easy nowadays. The bowlers are scrutinised in all filters possible but the batsmen are not held to the same demands.

AB, Amla looked clueless on rank turners while Williamson looked well below par even on normal turners. Hard to rate them equal to someone like KP who played a legendary counterattacking innings to win the match for his side batting second.

AB,Amla did well on normal turners like Bangalore and Delhi.AB even managed a 60 odd at Mohali.

Amla has done well in past.

Yeah but Bangalore and Delhi weren't unconducive to run making like rank turners. Hard to rate them as the best in the business if they can't deliver in unfavourable conditions and win matches for their team like KP did.

Of course, KP at his peak was in different league. Smashed McG-Warne, Steyn, murali and played one of the best knocks in Mumbai. But wasn't consistent at all.

It can be said that Ashwin 4 years back was nowhere as good as he is now. But still nevertheless , KP at his peak was one of the best batsmen of all time.
 
Terrible batting by N :facepalm

After doing well on their tour to the UAE in 2014 - I thought NZ would be a lot more competitive in the Tests and would win the ODI series but I was proven wrong - very poor team against spin.
