What's new

India defeat England by an innings and 25 runs in the 4th Test to qualify for the final of WTC

Chances are bleak for England now.
Need to get 350 plus runs (so difficult in a 2nd innings) just to set a challenge.
All eyes on Stokes and Root. Unlikely heroes could be Bairstow or Lawrence.

:jk

Send lawrence up the order now.

Dear oh dear, England seem cursed. Poor Sibbers.

Whilst I do agree that the selection of only 3 bowlers was a poor one, one has to remember that England's no.7 did score quite a bit. Without that, England would have collapsed a lot earlier and only scored around 130-140 and the extra bowler would have made little difference considering that Indua would not have been under any pressure. There is no English XI that could have given them an advantage in these conditions

If they can't play on this pitch then they are terrible .this is perfect pitch for batting

IND 365
ENG 205 & 29/3 (12.2) CRR: 2.35
Day 3: 2nd Session - England trail by 131 runs

Bar Root the top/middle order is very weak, England have had these issues for far to long

Would have been so nice to have 5th test instead of those 5 pathetic T20s!

What
Is
The
Point
Of
Bairstow?

Should have been dropped years ago and never recalled. Lost count how many times hes been out bowled or LBW which pretty much shows how bad he is as a player.

Spin web from both end. Difficult to survive. Its difficult to win series in india for any team. Imagine team with axar jadeja ravi ashwin sundar.

With this sort of meek surrender by opposition u want another test. I think india will be satisfied for now because they are close to that wtc final. England will be happy too because it’s getting over quickly this game lol

Want them to be defeated by same margin by which we were defeated by them last time we were in England.

It’s a bit much to ask Stokes to bat well after his Herculean bowling effort with the top order capitulating.

He should be playing ODIs only.

He is a very, very good batsman who has wasted his career in tests.

Calm your nerves, England cricket fans!

The saviour Root is still alive and kicking.

Last match ke 3 din aur iss match ke 2 din, poora ek test match khaa gaye.

Thats what I was alluding to. 5th test in this series would have been so nice.

5th test would be of no benefit to either India or England or to anyone. Already schedules are packed too tight.

England are the 2nd best side in Asian conditions though, make no mistake about that. They whitewashed SL and actually won a test in India. Better than other Asuan sides even in Asian conditions

England has been brutally exposed this tour. Kohli hates losing, after the first test, he made sure he gets the pitches he wants to torture the English players

Ashwin is getting a lot of turn and bounce.

England scoring all their runs through the keeper and leg slip at present.

Interesting how the fielders come in on the leg side for Pope and off side for Root.

Pope didn't inspire confidence, looked to be a walking wicket. Axar had him under a spell .

The young England batters don’t see much spin at home.

But England messed up by picking the wrong bowling attack twice. India would not, in my belief, have got a first innings lead here had Broad and Stone played.

Oh crap looks like Root is gone, I think ENG will be all out today, so much for my prediction of 6 down at end of play

Engkand would not have scored more than 130 had they played the extra seamer.

he is kicking hisself now. Was the only person who could have broke even with the lead. Lawrence of London to the rescue now

Root ends the series with 368 runs at 46, mostly in one innings. Averages 50 in India.

Everytime Broad has bowled this series, he looked no better than a Ranji journeyman trundler. A nothing bowler.

Agreed on stone, he'd have been useful.

And maybe India would have too. It’s impossible to say what would have happened, though it’s clear that England picked the wrong attack for this surface if Stokes bowled 26 overs.

This pitch is not where score looks 73-6. Pathetic batting by England

Agree about Stone but Broad has been pretty ineffective in India and he was bowling around 125-130ish in the 2 Tests he played and so rightly went wicketless in both.

Not bad comparing with Indian Batting performers.

Sundar is at 181 runs with @55.
Pant is at 270 @54.
Rohit is at 345@57.5 (unless he changes this in 4Test-2nd innings which is still possible.)

Which team canbat on this against these 2 spinners ? If England cant do it, I cant see any other team surviving .

General collapse of batting standards internationally due to T20. Ashwin is very good but this is an ok wicket.

Yet you confidently suggested that India would not have taken a lead? What has Broad even done this winter to suggest he would have been effective here. He doesnt have the pace currently to do anything. And another seamer would beam Lawremce would have had to sit out. Theres no evidence that any tlEnglish CI could have done any better.

Hmm possibly. I think this wicket would have helped him more though. Maybe he’s at the end of his career? See how he goes at home against Kiwis and Indians.

More generalizations. What T20's do Root, Pope, Lawrence, Sibley, Crawley etc. play? These are tough conditions for any team and the bowling is of quite a high quality.

Well of course there’s no evidence for a hypothetical situation, that’s what hypothetical means. There is evidence only for things that have happened.

All I am saying is that England handicapped themselves by not picking the right bowling for this surface. At his worst, Broad would have kept it tight instead of spraying dozens of full tosses like Best, and that would have helped Anderson and Stokes. The latter could have come in harder in short spells.

Tons of it in the domestic game, at the expense of four day cricket against good spinners like the Three Gs, Botham, Atherton, Hick etc. played.

True generalisations. Batters used to be able to bat in all conditions, but now England can’t bat in India and India can’t bat in England.

England shot themselves on the foot with that absurd rotation policy.
Should have been 2-2 at least.
Still most predicted 4-0. England steamers, should comfortably win them the series at home against India later this year I feel. If they pick the right team.

Broad is very slow in his 2nd spell . He was barely above the 80 mph mark even when he played. He wont get anything out of this pitch bowling the way he did.

That hasnt stopped them from playing plenty of FC cricket in tough conditions. Ollie has played 46 fc matches and only 36 domestic t20's, Larence has played 78 FC and 64 T20s, Sibley 85 FC and 35 T20's, Crawley has played 49 FC and 24 T20's. Tons of T20's? I don't see it
In fact at their respective ages , English batsmen have played more first class than their counterparts from other countries .

England aren't good enough in these conditions even after winning 3 tosses.

Let's see what happens in England. Pretty sure India will win the series if they win atleast a couple of tosses.

If india win toss like England then India will win series in England no matter how they prepare pitch
