India is no superpower

This post is proof that Indians do consider themselves as an upcoming Superpower. If they didn't there wouldn't be any need for Chest Thumping. In the same way, Indians claimed Canada is not relevant, yet that particular thread yielded over 400 posts.

If they didn't care, why would they respond? [Rhetorical meaning no need to answer it].

Where exactly did you find Indian Chest Thumping? (with capital C and capital T)

To my post:

came the reply:

Stuff that I made up just for fun, or must be a lie because and Indian said it:

1) India's real growth rate is around 6% to 7% in recent years.

(World Bank is similarly deluded: https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.MKTP.KD.ZG?cid=GPD_30&locations=IN)

2) TCS market cap is about $100 B.

(Yahoo Finance is similarly deluded: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/TCS.BO?p=TCS.BO)

3) Sun Pharma, Lupin, Dr. Reddy's Lab, Cipla etc. don't really exist, I just made up stuff.

4) The auto industry in India doesn't really manufacture 25 million vehicles, just stuff I dreamt up.

5) There is "Not a shred of evidence" that the world exists. It is all "Mere fallacious and unverified claims". We all live in The Matrix.

Ouch! Well done :))

I really like such posts (most of cricketjoshila 's for example). They always present hard facts from reputed sources to win debates.

Let's be honest. India only looks good because we have Pakistan as one of the neighbors. Put some half decent countries besides us, and it wouldn't be hard to see the dump we are.

As they say in Alabama "Thank God for Mississippi".

No India doesn't look good at all from where I am sitting! Some 400 million in the streets together with other problems associated with extreme poverty is not because of Pak. Having seen both this is my honest analysis. When one has seen both India and Pak its the latter that appears much better and cleaner. India is better at talking itself up, it's sheer size means it is culturally much more diverse. Its also not a direct neighbour of a troublesome country like Afghanistan. All this nonsense of just wait another ten years is only the fantasy of day dreaming Indians who are devoid of reality.

I really dont understand why Indian posters are so defensive in this thread. The point was we cannot have a sensible discussion when people think India is a great power. It is still classed as a third world nation which has many issues. Lets all be sensible.

Why wait 10 years, we can compare right now.

I would say having a per cap PPP GDP of $7,200 compared to Pakistan's $5,400 makes India look pretty good. The difference keeps growing. It was $1,600 in 2016, and grew to $1,800 in 2017.

Not being added to the terrorism financing watchlist like Pakistan will be in June makes India look rather good.

You should tell that to the OP. It is he who started this debate about whether India is, or is not a superpower. It wasn't Indian posters who claimed India was a superpower.

It is still classed as a third world nation which has many issues. Lets all be sensible.

Yes, India still has many poor people, but their numbers are currently falling.

That was me, no wonder you're confused. :zoni

I'm glad to hear it.

So a 33% increase per cap PPP for an economy that is 10 times the size of Pakistan.

I'd say that's a pretty pathetic performance, and this after 10 years. Also considering items like Petrol cost 50% more in India compared to Pakistan, Indians need more than Pakistanis just to survive. https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/gasoline_prices/

All of this before CPEC has kicked in, and when it does, the difference will turn positive in Pakistan's favour.

:)

I would like to understand one thing. Are Indian posters saying that they do not wish India to be a superpower?

So a 33% increase per cap PPP for an economy that is 10 times the size of Pakistan.

What? I don't think understanding numbers, especially when they relate to economics is your strong point.

Also considering items like Petrol cost 50% more in India compared to Pakistan, Indians need more than Pakistanis just to survive.

Per cap PPP takes into account prices of consumption goods.

All of this before CPEC has kicked in, and when it does, the difference will turn positive in Pakistan's favour.

:)

We will be rescued by the Chinese. In one word, delusional!

$7,200 compared to Pakistan's $5,400. 33% difference in India's favour. What's not to understand?

Wrong PPP is purchasing power parity. Ruppee for Ruppee, it cost India more for petrol in India than Pakistan. Do your homework.

We will be rescued by the Chinese. In one word, delusional!

Delusional is Indian's economy. After all the growth, the average Indian is only 33% richer than a Pakistani. So much for the $Trillion Indian GDP which is TEN times the size of Pakistan's economy.

Remember, it's not the size that matters, it is the performance.

:)

$7,200 compared to Pakistan's $5,400. 33% difference in India's favour. What's not to understand?

You brought in the total size of the economy in a comparison of per cap numbers. An immediate fail in any economics course.

Wrong PPP is purchasing power parity. Ruppee for Ruppee, it cost India more for petrol in India than Pakistan. Do your homework.

Maybe your consumption basket consists only of petrol. I don't know about you, but most Indians drink milk rather than petrol for breakfast. PPP is based on the price of the consumption basket rather than just one good.

Next economics lesson for you. Being a smaller country is actually an advantage rather than a disadvantage. The richest per cap countries are LIECHTENSTEIN, MONACO, MACAU and LUXEMBOURG (not counting QATAR which gets its wealth from unearned petrol).

So finally you understand where the 33% figure comes in from. Don’t cry because I brought in GDP. India has an economy 10 times the size of Pakistan, but only has a 33% GDP/Capita to show for it? As I said, a pathetic performance of an economy. Remember, economic performance is all RELATIVE!

You can appeal to all your brethren, doesn’t change the fact petrol, based on PPP, is more expensive in India than Pakistan. You can make all the excuses you want. Fact is, cost of living in India is more expensive than Pakistan. That 33% difference doesn't even cover the cost! Ouch!

You pulled up a ranking in 2004? Desperation knows no bounds.

So tell me, do you believe India is an upcoming Superpower? If not, why?

2004 is an internal file name used by the website, the data is mostly for the year 2017.

It depends upon what the word means to you. I said in my earlier post, that I would rank India as the 8th rank economy now, and if present trends continue the 3rd ranked economy in a couple of decades. You can choose to bestow the honorific "superpower" on it if you wish, or not.

You are spot on, you were corrected, as well as educated.

This excuse is perhaps sufficient to dupe the uneducated in India, but not elsewhere.

Why does economic rank matter? Why are you citing India’s economic rank? What is the relevance to the OP? Just asking, because it seems to me you do believe India will be a superpower otherwise you would not pull rank.

I got news for you for you though. Economy is not enough to propel a country to superpower status.

I should have paid more heed to Mark Twain.

There we have it. No answer.

What do you expect me to answer when I say "2004 is an internal file name used by the website, the data is mostly for the year 2017" and you reply "This excuse is perhaps sufficient to dupe the uneducated in India, but not elsewhere"?

You could have clicked on the link to see the data was mostly 2017 and not 2004, instead you gave a perfectly nonsensical reply.

Even if I grant you the notion, India is 157, and Pakistan 171 on the list. 14 ranks is all India has to show for it? Blimey, even LIECHTENSTEIN, BELIZE, GUATEMALA, and BHUTAN beat both nations! I bet you need to look these countries up on an atlas! How about familiar nations, like LEBANON and IRAN - both top Indian and Pakistan.

You really have no point.

Sweet dreams bud!

What list? Pak is on no list at all! India has 400 million on the streets. India has the largest number of slums and poor people. India has the highest number of aids victims and prostitution. India is known as the rape capital of the world and the sick man of South Asia. As far as the mentioned advantages and all don't forget your size that pays a crucial part. I will not allow you people to make yourselves feel good at our expense, no way! Talk about June when it arrives! India is worse then sub Saharan Africa in many ways.

See we indians are best mathematicians in the world, have discovered from n.o zero to quadratic systems to decimal systems to valhe of pi to trignometry to almost all sort of maths. So we only believe in facts and figures.
I have no idea what they teach you in madrassas in oakistan about india. Its hypocritsy if you take CRIME AND RAPE THEN YOU DNT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT PER CAPITA CRIME OUT OF 125 CRORE POPULATION,BUT WHEN TALKING ABOUT WORLD TOP 5 ECEONOMIES THEN YOU TALK ABOUT PER CAPITA INCOME.
Its pointless to debate with you. We know what we are. We are no lesser than any nation in the world. From top IT sector to automobile to pharma to space industry to etc etc with in 70 years ,we are nog doing bad

You obviously live in a world of delusion and are unable to separate reality from your wishful thinking. That leads you to disregard the numbers (per cap PPP GDP etc.) I have provided.

While I wish Pakistan well, the current reality for Pakistan is quite dire. With forex reserves of $18.8B, it is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, and you think it is doing better than India whose reserves have increased by $20B since the start of the year to $420B.

Mathematics has nothing to do with it besides many believe that Arab's created the zero not that I care either way. You sound like that annoying Manoj Kumar who keeps telling the world how India gave the world everything only to receive a good telling off in return in a movie I once watched. You have plenty of madrassa's as well, what do they teach? We do the same in ours. I agree that logic dictates the same rules apply for both success and poverty. You are on top of both lists because you are nine times bigger in size to Pakistan. You just don't like being shown the mirror, that's the problem. Tell your so called greatness to your own people not someone like me, okay!?You are not only less but simply not in the league of any western country and you know it!

You need to learn how to debate! I did not dismiss anything, read my previous mail again. Do you refute any of the FACTS I mentioned in my previous mail? Have you ever visited Pakistan that makes you any impartial judge? If not you are in no position to talk. See wwe admit our problems where as you think you are great! You are not great at all, it is absurd to even call India a developed country when it;s a third world hellhole! No, you don't wish Pakistan well at all, stop pretending. Once again use your reserves to eradicate the massive poverty within your country instead of talking it up in to something it is not. Even if Pak becomes bankrupt we will recover, thanks for your concern.

You need to learn how to debate! I did not dismiss anything, read my previous mail again.

Of course you did. I provided per cap PPP GDP figures and instead of discussing that you replied "rape".

it is absurd to even call India a developed country when it;s a third world hellhole!

Also, I suggest you educate yourself about per cap PPP GDP, and then try to understand what the difference between $5,400 and $7,200 implies.

Things I learned on PP 2 days ago: When Indian / international media report something negative about Pakistan, it's a lie. When Pak media finally reports the same thing, it doesn't matter any more.

Things I learned on PP yesterday: GDP growth gets canceled out by nominal inflation.

Things I learned on PP today: I will compare a ratio (e.g., relative per capita GDP) by comparing the numerator (e.g., relative size of GDP) but by ignoring the denominator (e.g., relative size population). In a related news, Archimedes, Aryabhatta, Ramanujan, Newton and Turning committed a collective suicide.

Lol this thread is still going on when both Indians, Pakistanis, neutrals and India-haters have all accepted that India is clearly not a superpower...

Whats the holdup then?

You deserve it, you try to have reasonable discussions with folks who shift goalposts every 10 secs, worse is you continue trying even after quoting Twain. Heed to Einstein's words my friend "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”
