Makes perfect sense to play him actually- we have 2 opening prospects out injured. Burns Test returns (ignore FC) have been just short of the mark but not terrible or outright bad. Burns is incumbent.

So Burns gets the chance for 1 test. If he fails, in comes Pucjosvki fair & square.

The first two Adelaide Day/Night Tests were 12 mm, and it stopped the ball from scuffing and going soft.

The problem is that the pink ball goes soft quickly if you don’t play on a greentop.

By the way, the key in these conditions is a full length. Not short-pitched bowling!
 
This is going to be a long summer for India this time. Kohli’s unbeaten record is under threat this time. I think, India will need 350 here to be competitive.

No they were 10mm. Groundsman is on record saying as much. Shaved to 8mm after that.

What unbeaten record?

He lost his last Test series in England (2); New Zealand and South Africa, and his last one away to a full-strength Australia.

His unbeaten record consists of a single series against a team which had suspended its only two international class batsmen.

I would rather be 150 all out than 350 all out here.

150-200 all out means that you can bowl with a new ball in the danger hour straight after Dinner - you will take at least 4 top order wickets.

350 all out means that you will be bowling in daylight after Tea on Day 2, and by the time the danger hour comes the ball won’t be new any more.

He has one unique record for 26 Tests, which if any PAK Captain had for 6 Tests ... you would have written epics here before any declared Pakistani- guess which record.
 
Something about Australian speedguns.
They seem to be pretty generous at times.

Why are the Indian batsmen playing like they have never held a bat before?! It is so frustrating, the way they are struggling.
 
Should be a good contest this. India have a solid line up and I expect them to fight well here

Facing some world class bowlers with a Pink ball they are not completely comfortable with in a match yet.
If the openers aren't struggling /fighting a but in the first session of a Test then the pitch is terrible. First session should always begin with bowlers looking menacing (if they bowl well).
 
Got it. And Pujara not having match experience this year is showing as well.

Guys i might be wrong but did someone notice a ring on Starcs bowling hand? The ring looks to be on the third finger where I would have thought it would rub against the side of the ball. Not sure if I am seeing things
 
Pujara is playing with soft hands. These are not chances, its smart batting. Not the last one though.

2 edges not carrying- partially good batting with soft hands in play. But is Paine 1 metre too far back?

That pitch might sometimes quicken after the first half a day in OZ sunshine & those catches start carrying.

No captain in history of cricket in an era will be stupid and reckless enough to declare at 165-7 because of the extreme level of risk factor involved.

If a captain loses a Test from that position after declaring at 165-7, which he most often will, he will be stripped from captaincy, flogged in public before getting shifted to a mental asylum.

I hope you realize that 9/10 times, a declaration at 165/7 will backfire in spectacular fashion. You are basically conceding the game if the opposition crosses the 200 mark.

We have seen enough D/N Tests to conclude that your ridiculously absurd theory doesn’t work just like your spinner in Australia theory doesn’t work as Yasir proved last year.

It would roughen up the ball from one side much quicker. I dont think the pitch is otherwise conducive to reverse early on given the square is not as rough. This pink ball would stop conventional swing fairly quickly
 
Pujara just seems to be camping on his back foot and bunting the ball. He is probably expecting quite a bit of short stuff. Would like to see more full length balls to him.

He's suggesting it could be used to artifically scuff the ball to promote both normal (swings more if one side is very smooth & one very rough- try scraping a new ball on one side bro) & also reverse which also works better if one side is very rough & not at all IF the pitch/outfield is too smooth & nice to achieve a very rough side at all.

Very good technique for an opener. Plays it underneath himself= edges go down, if you push out in front of yourself those edges are always on the way up.

This is what teams like Australia, South Africa and Pakistan which have fast bowling cultures, can do: put fear in the minds of batsmen at the start of the innings.
 
What is 1st inning minimum score here India can put to give Australia some fight ?? Maybe 300

Should give india some confidence. Swing is their biggest nemesis.

Yes, the sight of Mohammad Musa charging in would make batsmen like Smith and Kohli shake in their boots.
 
I don't remember when was the last time we scored a 50 without losing a few.

You may be right going forward but for now South Africa won their last two series both home and away against Aussies.
 
I think Kohli will fail this innings but then have a good second innings. Based on just my gut and how he starts series’
 
So basically we batted 20 overs, lost a couple and got next to nothing to show for in the scoreboard, which is why I am against wasting too many deliveries even in tests.
