India tour of Australia (2020/21)

India at full strength is better than Australia. But now Aussies should win with India missing 5 players.

High time india support staff is questioned for those who got injured on their own e.g. Vihari, Umesh Yadav etc.

Two days after his heroics helped India secure an unlikely draw against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Hanuma Vihari is trending again. The middle-order batsman, who struggled through a hamstring injury to put on a 259-ball blockathon along with Ravichandran Ashwin in Sydney, responded to Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Babul Supriyo's tweet criticising him for his low strike rate, with a simple two-word post that has gone viral.

"Playing 109 balls to score 7 !That is atrocious to say the least Hanuma Bihari has not only killed any Chance for India to achieve a historic win but has also murdered Cricket.. not keeping win an option, even if remotely, is criminal. PS: I know that I know nothing abt cricket," Babul Supriyo had tweeted during the final day of the match.

Most wickets taken in the AUSvIND series so far

Pat Cummins 15
Ravichandran Ashwin 12
Josh Hazlewood 11
Jasprit Bumrah 11
Mitchell Starc 9

It's really sad. Forget about India.

Current Aussie attack bowlers are better than any bowler Pakistan have ever produced. Yes better than Wasim.

That's how good Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood are. Wasim wasn't better than starc in Australia. Look at his record.

Wasim stats in Australia are 24

Starc goes at more than 3 rpo
Wasim went at less than 3 rpo

in odi. in tests he averages 26.18 in a more bowler friendly era. pretty poor. starc is better vs tail. i would take starc over wasim in sena especially vs tail.

Good captaincy with MI.

Part of Mumbai cricket and plays for Ambani's IPL team. What explanation do you need. This has been going on for last 50-60 years where if you are part of certain lobbies, you get chances not matter what while other performers get ignored.

Why do you think Shaw gets a chance over Gill when Gill's overall record in Ranji and A tour are better than Shaw? If not the injuries and quarantine clauses Gill would not have got any chances at all. Shaw and Rohit would have started from Test 1.

Why do you think Rahane retained his place between 2017-19 inspite of extremely poor record during that tenure? If he would not have been part of Mumbai cricket he would have been dropped long back.

True - not arguing otherwise.
But you cannot rule out MI captaincy record - it is the way he thinks that might have impressed selectors. That also may have played a part. Not the sole reason but surely may have played a part.

Australia captain Tim Paine says India refusing to go to Gabba acted as a distraction for Australia

'They weren't going to the Gabba': Australia captain Tim Paine says India good at 'niggling' and 'creating sideshows'. Australia captain Tim Paine has taken a shot at India, saying the Indian cricket team are good at distracting the opposition with things that 'do not matter'.

Australia captain Tim Paine has taken a shot at India, saying the Indian cricket team are good at distracting the opposition with things that 'do not matter'. Paine's comments came in connection to the final Test of the 2020/21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba in Brisbane, which Australia lost by three wickets, allowing India to seal the Test series 2-1.

Ahead of the final Test, there were reports that the Indian team was unwilling to travel to Brisbane in view of the stringent protocols related to bio-bubble and insisted that the final Test too be played at the SCG, which had hosted the third Test. Of course, India did go to Brisbane and went on to win the Test, but Paine feels the distraction created due to the matter played a role in Australia losing focus ahead of the final Test.

"Part of the challenge of playing against India is they're very good at niggling you and trying to distract you with stuff that doesn't really matter and there were times in that series where we fell for that," Paine told news.com.au.

"The classic example was when they said they weren't going to the Gabba so we didn't know where we were going. They're very good at creating these sideshows and we took our eye off the ball."

The 2-1 loss was Australia's second consecutive Test series defeat to India on their home soil. During the 2018/19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India had beaten Australia also by a 2-1 margin to register their maiden Test series win in Australia. Paine was the captain back then as well.

While the previous tour was historic in its own ways, the series victory which India registered earlier this year was of epic proportions. With no Virat Kohli and most of the key players injured, in the presence of Steve Smith and David Warner in the opposition, India put up a spirited show after the Adelaide debacle to produce three huge results.

They won the second Test at MCG by eight wickets, followed by a memorable draw in Sydney and capped off the series with a win at Gabba, a venue where Australia hadn't lost a Test match since 1988.

I’ve actually heard a little about this through my work.

As you know, almost all of Australia’s cases are linked to overseas travellers seeding infection here. The Ruby Princess cruise ship debacle means that India would never be allowed into the Australian mainland to serve two weeks’ quarantine.

The suggestion is currently that any visiting team would fly into Christmas Island (off Western Australia, but closer to Malaysia and Indonesia).

They would stay at the abandoned Christmas Island Casino hotel as prisoners for a period of two weeks, before proceeding to the Australian mainland.

And wait for this! Plan B is whether a ground could conceivably be built on Christmas Island to host cricket and rugby league if the virus rebounds on the mainland.

Love reading the 1st page of this thread with so many hilarious predictions being made earler. Not only India entered mainland Australia but won the series too.

Australia were distracted? After bowling us out for 36 in the first test and our mainstay leaving the team after that rout?

What a sook! Couldn't he find a better excuse for his incompetence?

I hadn't registered myself on PakPassion that time but read all these out of world predictions about how India will be prisoners on an Island. A ground will be prepared there and whatnot.
It was fun reading all those posts. Lol

As you said India not only entered but won the series in style.

What a sore loser!
Glad India won.

Lol what a hilarious excuse. The Australian captains I know would never use such an excuse for a series defeat at home.

He has to be among the most mediocre Australian cricketers ever. It's shocking for how long he's been able to lead them in tests. Like sometimes I wonder if even his family acknowledges him as an international cricketer. Do his neighbours even know him.

Tim Paine, Trolled For India Test Series Comment, Says "Most Of It I Deserve"

Australia Test skipper Tim Paine lauded Indian cricket fans' passion towards the sport after his name trended on Twitter in India regarding his famous sledge to Ravichandran Ashwin during the Sydney earlier this year.

After Tim Paine indicated that his side was distracted by Team India during the tour which eventually saw the hosts losing the Test series in January this year, the Australian skipper started trending on social media platform Twitter, where the Indian fans had their share of fun with him.

India defeated Australia by three wickets against all odds in the final Test of the four-match series at The Gabba in January to take the series 2-1. Paine claimed that the Ajinkya Rahane-led side created "sideshows" by saying that the visitors were not going to the Gabba (venue of the fourth Test).

"Part of the challenge of playing against India is they're very good at niggling you and trying to distract you with stuff that doesn't really matter and there were times in that series where we fell for that," news.com.au quoted Paine as saying at a function for the Chappell Foundation at the SCG on Wednesday night.

"The classic example was when they said they weren't going to the Gabba so we didn't know where we were going. They're very good at creating these sideshows and we took our eye off the ball," he added.

After this, Paine started trending on Twitter and a sports journalist shared a snippet in which Indian fans can be seen having fun with Paine, while reminding him of his famous sledge to Ravichandran Ashwin during the Sydney Test.

"Almost 6 months on, poor old Paine is still copping heat from Indian fans... and these are just the ones I'm tagged in," tweeted the journalist.

To this tweet, Paine replied, "Love their passion, Brent. Most of it I deserve."

During the Sydney Test, when Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin were grinding it out in the middle, Paine sledged Ashwin saying that his team cannot wait to see visitors reach Gabba, Brisbane.

As fate has it, India sealed the famous series win in Brisbane and now the sledge is used to mock Paine.

The last time a visiting team came out triumphant from the Brisbane Cricket Ground was back in November 1988 when the mighty West Indian outfit under the leadership of Viv Richards thrashed Allan Border's team by nine wickets.

What made the feat even more commendable is how Team India fought multiple injuries and mental fatigue, due to the bio-bubble restrictions to register a historic win.

So looking back @Junaids, were Indians held as prisoners in Christmas Island like other refugees ?

To be honest, the Test series win in Australia was purely based on a few facts:

Our bowlers could not hurt their bowlers so Josh/Starc/Cummins were forced to bowl continuously whereas our injured bowlers had to be rotated.

We had guys like Shardul Thakur who were 5'7" in reality but the Aussies were in Covid bubbles relentlessly and so Thakur appeared like a 7'2" giant to tired Aussie bats. They had geriatrics like Lyon bowling while we had young beauties like Ash and Jadeja both bowling and batting. There was no Shadab Khan-level spin all-rounder in all of Australia.

Australia had a useless seam allrounder in Cam Green who was not even 10% of Faheem Ashraf.

Tim Paine was a captain who was not even half the portly keeper that Rishabh Pant was, let alone the prodigious, untouchable Rohail Nazir.

If Australia had peak Salman Butt instead of Warner, that would probably have helped too.

The Test series victory was a fluke against a side which didn't have a single player that would have made the NZ Test side. So such a Test series win and runs against such opposition don't really count and most educated, knowledgeable fans have already put mental asterisks on that win after India failed to win WTC.
The real victory for India was the diplomatic victory in avoiding that scary detention centre on Christmas Island :inti

I wonder what happened to destroyer of attacks.. Rohail Nazir. Have not heard anything about him.

"Treated Us Very Horribly": India Star Reveals Mistreatment On Australia Tour, Slams Rival Captain For 'Lying'

India cricketer Shardul Thakur has revealed many details about India's victorious tour to Australia in 2020-21, stating that the team had not received good facilities from Cricket Australia. Terming the treatment towards them as "horrible", Thakur stated that then-India captain Ajinkya Rahane and coach Ravi Shastri were regularly involved in arguments with Cricket Australia, as the team did not receive adequate facilities. Thakur revealed that several negative things were spoken about India, whilst going as far as calling then-Australia Test captain Tim Paine a liar.

In a public appearance, Shardul Thakur revealed his true feelings about the tour when asked what India's famous win at The Gabba in Brisbane meant to him. India had won the four-match Test series 2-1.

"The way they treated us was very horrible," said Thakur. "For four or five days, there would be no housekeeping service in the hotel. If you wanted to change the bedsheets, you would have to walk up five floors when you're tired," he continued.

Thakur revealed that the Governor of Queensland had said that Australia were not happy hosting India. Thakur then proceeded to rubbish an interview given by Tim Paine.

"I heard some interview from Tim Paine. That man was absolutely lying, he was just saving himself by making up things in the media," said Thakur. "But I know the truth - Virat (Kohli) had left - and Ajinkya Rahane and Ravi Shastri were regularly fighting with Cricket Australia to give us what we wanted," he added.

Thakur said that the reaction of the Indian players after winning the match was different to what it would usually be. India had won the tour despite Virat Kohli missing the last three Tests and several injury concerns. In the last Test in Brisbane, India had chased down a mammoth target of 329.

"For the first time ever, we did not even look at the Australians after winning. We wanted to tell them 'Go and sit back in your dressing rooms'," Thakur said.

Former Australia Captain Demands Demolition Of India's Historic Win Venue, Reason Is This

Former Australia captain Allan Border has called for The Gabba cricket ground in Brisbane to be knocked down and be replaced by a new stadium build from scratch which can cater to hosting multiple sports for 2032 Olympics. The iconic Gabba stadium has been a fortress for Australia, though India defeated them at the venue to complete an unforgettable 2-1 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series win in January 2021. The Queensland government recently abandoned a 2.7 billion dollars plan to demolish and rebuild the Gabba for the 2032 Olympic Games.

Instead, it has invested that amount in upgrading the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC), Suncorp Stadium, and the Gabba. “I'd be knocking down the Gabba and building a new venue from scratch at Victoria Park. A brand new 60,000-seat stadium suits rugby, cricket, Aussie rules, and the Olympics, and the Gabba becomes housing,” said Border to The Courier Mail.

Moreover, after an independent review, a 3.4 billion dollars proposal to construct a new oval stadium at Victoria Park was also rejected by the Queensland government. The uncertainty around the Gabba has been so high that Brisbane is likely to be absent from Australia's schedule of hosting Test matches for the next seven years.

"They haven't got any certainty about the Gabba, so we're off the roster. It's sad, but they've got to have some certainty, probably over the next four years, if they can use the Gabba or not.

"Because we have an election coming up, nobody wants to touch the hot potato of announcing where the main venue would be. But I'll have a crack and say knock the Gabba down for urban renewal, and because it's on the city fringe, you could probably pay for the Olympics just by selling the property,” added Border.

Meanwhile, former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Ian Healy said Cricket Australia is anxious about the future of hosting cricket in Brisbane ahead of state elections happening in October this year. The third Test of this year's Border-Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India will be held at the Gabba from December 14-18.

"After India and the Ashes, the next season there are only three Tests (against New Zealand) and we've missed out, as you do because the newest stadium is the Adelaide Oval that holds more than ours. Other governments are investing in that, and I think the other states are investing in a seven-year rotation and Brisbane's stuck.

"It's frustrating Cricket Australia because they just can't talk to either side of our government because our state is shut down until after the election (on October 26). It's a bit scary for our stakeholders, Cricket Australia is quite anxious about the future of Brisbane cricket. So, let's hope we get our wicket front and centre, and Australia gets some victories," said Healy on SENQ Radio.

Ravichandran Ashwin said during a chat with a local Youtube channel:

"We were not thinking about a series win because we were just bowled out for 36. The mood in the dressing room was a bit own. Ravi Bhai organised a team dinner. He arranged for karaoke, he started singing. He sang old Hindi songs. Everybody joined in. We were in a bubble, Virat was also getting ready to return."

"We were just focussing on doing well in the next Test in Melbourne. We kept small targets."

Easily the best tour of all time. This thread is so much fun to read from first page till last...pure gold. Below is the chronology order and ultimate submission:

Stage 1 (Quarantine phase) - Indian team won't be allowed to enter mainland Australia and will be prisoned in Christmas Island to quarantine. Source being trust me bro since I live in Australia.

Stage 2 (Asterix phase) - India massively fluked the 2018 tour since there was no Smith/Warner. Since they are back, there is no way India can win this time.

Stage 3 (post 36 ao phase) - Entire Aussie media is laughing why 4 tests is allocated to India. What is the point of remaining 3 tests with their skipper running away

Stage 4 (post Sydney draw) - why are Indian fans celebrating so early? Has they won the series yet? Now drawing is equal to win is it?

Stage 5 (admission of surrender after Brisbane) - yes India indeed outplayed Australia in Australia and they were a better team :ssmith
