PROTEAS MEN’S SQUAD ANNOUNCED FOR T20I SERIES AGAINST INDIA

Thursday, 31 October 2024

JOHANNESBURG: White-ball head coach Rob Walter has today named a strong 16-player squad for the upcoming four-match Wonder Cement T20 International (T20I) series against India, scheduled from 08 to 15 November.

Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, along with Keshav Maharaj, return to the Proteas T20I side for the first international series of the home summer. Gerald Coetzee and Marco Jansen have also been included in the squad after completing their structured conditioning blocks.

World Sports Betting Western Province all-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana has received his maiden call-up. The 24-year-old finished as one of the top wicket-takers in this season’s CSA T20 Challenge with 12 wickets at an average of 14.08. He is joined by uncapped Hollywoodbets Dolphins all-rounder Andile Simelane, who was part of the squad that toured the United Arab Emirates in September.

DP World Lions fast bowler Lutho Sipamla has been added to the squad for the third and fourth T20Is. The 26-year-old returns to the limited-overs setup for the first time since February 2021 following an impressive CSA T20 Challenge campaign, which saw him claim a career-best 4 for 12 in the title-winning final against the Momentum Multiply Titans on Sunday.

Kagiso Rabada has been rested for the series, while Lungi Ngidi was not considered for selection as he undertakes a conditioning block in preparation for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins later in November.

The squad will convene in Durban on Monday, 04 November. Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs are currently in Bangladesh for the ongoing Test series and will join the squad on Wednesday, 06 November.

Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium will host the first match of the series on Friday, 08 November, before the two sides head to Gqeberha for the second match at Dafabet St George’s Park on Sunday, 10 November.

The series then moves to the Highveld, with the third match taking place at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday, 13 November, and wraps up at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Friday, 15 November.

Commenting on the squad, Walter said: “It’s both an exciting and important series for us as we continue to build towards the T20 World Cup in 2026. The squad has a nice mix of youth and experience, and I am looking forward to seeing us deliver some quality performances against a very attacking Indian T20 outfit.”

“We continue to drive our broader priorities of exposing our high-potential players to quality opposition as we look to widen our base of internationally ready players, whilst at the same time understanding that our main objectives as always are to play a brand of cricket that excites our supporters and wins games of cricket for South Africa.”

Better than all Pakistani spinners.
R Ashwin is not even in boot licking distance of Saqlain, Mushtaq, Abdul Qadir, Hafeez, Afridi and many others.

All these lads have performed overseas and in multiple formats.

Ashwin may have frauded his way into being a spin bully on an Indian spin curated pitch, but he gets exposed overseas 24/7, to the point that Bcci deliberately tries to hide him in SENA.

Had pcb not been an incompetent board then both sajid and nouman would have had superior careers to ashwin.

Sorry to say this but R Ashwin is another overglorified fraud who happens to get hyped because he's an Indian.

The fact that @Ab Fan wants to put both pollock and Ashwin in the same borderline atg tier is not only insulting to Pollock but also downright hilarious.

Ashwin is a rubbish spinner who's only superior to lame spinners like shadab, Abrar etc etc.

Remove those curated Asian pitches and you'll see him getting bashed in sa like he's already been

Ashwin is a better Test spinner overseas than the likes of Yasir, Qadir and Afridi. It's laughable to even compare

I thought Aussie fans understood cricket. Clearly not the case.

Explain ashwin's 49 and 42 avg in sa and aus and explain his lack of 5 wicket hauls in SENA which all 3 have achieved.

Let's hear it. No narratives on how he supported and gritted his way into this and that.

Let's hear it right now, Talk about why bcci drops him knowing full well he's useless.

Qadir averages 61 in Australia and 51 in NZ. Ashwin's 42 is God level compared to that spinner.

I'm aware of what qadir averages however he has 5 wicket hauls in some parts of SENA and has contributed to victories in said regions.

Ashwin on the other hand has done zilch with his bowling in SENA. His worst games in SENA involve being bullied into next week and his best games involve just being a support bowler.

Now again, don't divert the topic, explain Ashwin's garbage record in sena

I already explained it. You can always hold some trash fifer where Qadir took 5/166 in 58 overs and use that as a low IQ example to put down Ashwin.

Average is a much better metric .

Even Qadir's fifer came in when Australia were already 342/3 and Graham Yallop
and Kim Hughes had already smashed the hell out of the Pakistani attack.

Ashwin took Wade, Smith and Paine to reduce Australia to 155/7 at the MCG - basically half the top order within 60 overs and essentially won us the match.

But keeping praising that most useless fifer like it helped anyone.

Don't care. Explain how Ashwin is better then every pakistani spinner ever. No 5 wicket hauls in SENA, a meme in aus and sa.

Go and explain it, until then no one will ever remember ashwin's mcg haul because it lacks a 5 fer.

Ashwin with 530+ test wickets, 3400 test runs, bowl average of 23, bat avg of 26 and 11 player of series award is an ATG cricketer and no amount of moaning over his average in 1-2 country would change anything. He played key role in test series wins in Australia in 2018 and 2020 and with 11 players of series award and his additional ability with bat, he is among the top test cricketers of this generation.

I think You're a young cricket fan who hasn't watched cricket pre-2008

you have to resort to checking Cricinfo stats.
