India tours of Ireland (2022 & 2023)

Harry Tector has scored 47* from 26 balls. Seems like a good hitter.

Will he get an IPL contract?

Someone will approach Joe Root for sure after the innovations he has showed with bat in the test series. Tecter will find it hard as conditions would be different, Indian conditions.

Ireland fighting back nicely.

Run rate close to 9 now.

Don't Pandya, Umran, Bhuvi and Avesh bowl there? If yes, then he may find it easy. :inti

Conditions should be easier in India for batters.

Hooda struggling vs left arm swing. He is a spin basher, why have they sent him as opener?

Pandya starts with a bang. And Sehwag's commentary on top of that is a treat. :inti

International T20 cricket turns out to be soo easy for Deepak Hooda here with an ugly batting stance :jofra

This game just proves India is clueless about their WT20 plans and these temporary captains are just doing what they like.

Gaikwad is supposed to be reserve opener. He's untested while chasing high scores - doesn't get to open today.

Pandya is finisher in India's WT20 plans. - But he's captain, so he will put himself to bat at 4

Umran Malik is picked as a wicket-taker - Doesn't get new ball, doesn't get 2nd over, Skipper Pandya bowls more than a frontline pacer ;-)

These wins are as meaningless as they get. I am guessing we will get reality check in England series unless India opt for another random team with random captain against them to play down the loss.

Pandya sir will end up as a terrible captain against better teams more misery to come for us.

Tector found an able partner in Lorcan Tucker, content to play the supporting hand at first before smashing Pandya for two consecutive sixes. The partnership was broken a ball after it had reached 50, Tucker slog-sweeping Yuzvendra Chahal to the fielder in the deep, but there was no stopping Tector. Bhuvneshwar, nigh-on unplayable earlier in the piece, was scythed through point for four before being driven high and handsome over extra cover for six. Chahal was watchfully played out in the penultimate over before Tector teed off once more, audaciously reverse-scooping Avesh for four before unfurling another glorious shot over the covers for six.

He walked off with 64 off 33 balls having dragged Ireland to a fighting total of 108-4, but India’s powerful batting line-up won out.

Deepak Hooda received an unexpected promotion to open the batting, but it was Ishan Kishan who did the early damage, smashing 14 runs off three Josh Little balls in the opening over. And while Mark Adair’s first over was a tight one, costing just five, Kishan would soon be onto the attack once more, taking 10 runs from Craig Young’s first two deliveries.

The right-arm seamer struck back, locating some inswing to beat Kishan’s expansive stroke and dismantle the stumps before removing Suryakumar Yadav lbw first ball. There was to be no hat-trick, but Young’s double strike had brought Ireland back into the contest.

The runs continued to flow however. Pandya hit a Young free-hit over mid-on to open his account, while Hooda, kept quiet to start with, got going with two boundaries off two consecutive legal Adair deliveries.

Out of the powerplay, Young snuck through a tight over, but Pandya signposted India were ratcheting up the gears when the spin of Andy McBrine was introduced, smashing the first and last balls of the sixth over for six. Hooda added a maximum of his own inbetween, and deposited Conor Olphert’s first ball, on Ireland debut, for six as well. That seven-ball, four-six stretch brought the required run rate down from nearly nine an over to a run a ball, with India in the box seat.

Olphert recovered well, conceding three runs from the remainder of his maiden international over, but the respite was only momentary, Hooda hitting consecutive boundaries off Little and Pandya slapping another six straight down the ground, before being given lbw one ball later.

Olphert continued to impress, extracting some extra bounce to hurry India’s batters, but the game was already over as a contest, and three consecutive fours saw Pandya’s side home with a flourish.

The second and final T20I in the series will take place on Tuesday, 28 June, at the same venue.

Gaikwad was injured so he didn't open. That is what I heard by commies yesterday.

Pandya is not the only or first choice finisher, he is a power hitter, bashes spin well and better suited to no.5. DK is a finisher.

Umran Malik doesn't have skills with the new bowl. He bowled in the middle overs throughout IPL too.

I agree on last statement because I am not sure about the form of the players who are generally in first XI.

Hardik Pandya knows a thing or two about what it takes to thrive in T20 cricket and the stand-in India captain was quick to single out the innings of Harry Tector during his side's emphatic victory over Ireland and has even earmarked the young up-and-comer as a future IPL prospect.

Hardik was full of praise for Tector after the talented 22-year-old smashed three sixes and six fours during his unbeaten 64 from just 33 deliveries in a rain-affected clash in Dublin on Sunday.

It was an innings that proved in vain as India easily chased down Ireland's total in less than 10 overs, but Hardik obviously saw something he liked in the performance of the young Irishman.

Pandya spoke freely of Tector's superb innings during his post-match media conference and even revealed he gave the right-hander one of his bats that he hopes he may be able to use in a future edition of the IPL.

"He played some fantastic shots, and obviously, he's 22, I've given him a bat as well, so maybe he can score some more sixes and maybe get an IPL contract, and I wish him luck," Hardik said.

It's not the first time that Tector has caught the eye on the big stage, with Ireland's confident No.4 also performing well for his country at the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup in 2018.

Tector was Ireland’s second highest run scorer at that tournament in New Zealand, with his match-winning 101 against Namibia in Lincoln a clear highlight.

And Hardik thinks the future is bright for Tector, providing he continues to work hard at his game and receives the correct advice from people in the know and at the right time.

"Just look after him well, give him the right guidance," Hardik said.

"It's not always about cricket; it's about understanding your whole lifestyle and what is at stake.

"If you can manage that, I'm sure he's going to be around - not just in IPL, in all the leagues in the world."

The second and final match of the two-game series will be in Dublin once again on Tuesday.

Easy stuff for India as they reach 80/1 (8.5) CRR: 9.06

Bad for Ishan Kishan who was caught Tucker b Mark Adair 3(5) - 13/1 in 2.1 ov.

Hardik Pandya should have opened the batting today. He would have broken the Chris Gayle record of 175 runs.

IND 217/4 (18.4) CRR: 11.62

Could India have scored at a better rate?
