India tours of Ireland (2022 & 2023)

Umran Malik isn't that fast. I mean sure he still is 145k+ but not the 150+ in his own league kinda pace he was made out to be.

What a pathetic display by India. 3rd rate bowling.

This Harshal guy is the highest wicket taker in IPL history.

Is he jealous because Umran is getting all the spotlight? :inti

Who knows Pandya brothers have attitude of Kohli/Gayle.. but without any knocks so one never knows.. maybe they are our Akmals(I wish we discover a Babar), Umran should be bowling with the newball but instead gets introduced a 6th..

Instead of playing that joke of a glorified net session game against "Leicestershire", BCCI could have easily scheduled a test match here against Ireland.

Would have been much better practise for the 5th test and also have served Irish cricket better who haven't hosted a single test at home since their debut game way back in 2018.

Umran looks like a toothless bowler. What was all the hype about? :inti

He is a toothless bowler. He needs to actually learn to bowl before he starts featuring for India regularly. Because most top quality batters will eat him up and spit him out.

Bowling at 150 is meaningless if you are bowling rubbish half-trackers and can't hit a consistent line and length.

Imagine the carnage Stirling would've caused had he not been run out. Lucky escape by India.

That’s actually true..

India did escape and its alright.. I’m certain most Indians wouldn’t had caree had we lost as well.. coz of dead weights.

We are not going to win anything toll current players management are washed thrown out.

And let's not forget, Ireland dragged Pakistan to the limit in that match. Which was an incredible achievement for a side playing its first test match.

Yeah most of his deliveries were in the low 140s today. Not sure if his pace his dropped or if the speed guns in Ireland or the IPL are not accurate.

He isn't any faster than half a dozen pakistan youngsters. He may be a good prospect but the hype about his pace isn't warranted.

He wasn’t even top 5 last season..are you confusing him someone else..

I meant highest wicket taker in a season. Harshal holds the record for the most wickets taken in an IPL season.

I had said before we will see a difference of 7-10 km when he comes to international cricket and that's kinda what it was. Ipl speedguns are to be taken with a grain of salt. This is clear for anyone who has cared to observe a bit.

IND 225/7 (20)

IRE 221/5 (20)

India won by 4 runs

==

India beat Ireland by four runs in the second and final T20 International to clinch the two-match series 2-0 on Tuesday. Opting to bat, India posted a huge 225 for seven with Deepak Hooda top-scoring with 104 while Sanju Samson contributing 77. The Indians then restricted Ireland to 221 for five to win the match.

Captain Andy Balbirnie top-scored for Ireland with 60 while opener Paul Stirling contributed 40. Harry Tector and George Dockrell chipped in with 39 and 34 not out respectively.

For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Ravi Bishnoi and Umrah Malik took a wicket apiece.

India had won the first match by seven wickets.

Highest T20I totals for Ireland:

225/7 v Afg Abu Dhabi 2013
220/5 v Ind Dublin 2022 *
211/6 v Sco Dubai 2017
208/5 v HK Al Amerat 2019
208/7 v WI St George's 2020

Lowest margin of win for a side scoring 220+ batting first in T20Is:

1 run WI v Ind Lauderhill 2016
4 runs Ind v Ire Dublin 2022 *
20 runs WI v Eng Bridgetown 2022

I understand why Indian fans are so hyped about him. And the reason is that they have never seen a 150 kph Indian bowler before.

But honestly if you're bowling over 140 these days you're pretty fast. No one is superhuman enough to maintain 150 kph while playing multiple formats and T20 tournaments in this day and age, nor do I think is it advisable. Because it inevitably leads to injuries.

Two guys that are known to crank it up to 150 quite often: Nortje and Ferguson have just spent lengthy periods on the injured list. I think Ferguson is still injured.

Bowling well is much more important than bowling fast. And this guy has zero control or consistency which makes him a far bigger liability with the ball, than anything else.

220+ runs against India in our worst format and I'm gutted.

Just have to hate cricket sometimes. To think that **** wide call on Olphert and the extra ball going to the rope was the difference.

*sigh*

Can't be too gutted, we've held our own here but god damnit, we won't get a better shot at beating India for a decade or more

Yes mate, you will get another chance, and beat them in the end you shall. The signs are good. This was an excellent Irish batting performance. Many teams would struggle to even get close to India if they put up 225 in an IT20.

I was rooting for Ireland the way they take forward the chase. If India were chasing 220+, the top order would have started slowly and left the middle order to hit 110 runs in final 8 overs instead of trying to take the game by the scruff from the start only.

This is why India will never do great in T20s,they just don't play the brand of cricket that is required for winning the T20 world cup.

He can click to 150+ but he won't have control then. For Umran to bowl in death overs, he will always be in the pressure to defend runs, so that will take over the priority instead of bowling express fast. He did bowled a couple of deliveries over 150 in the early overs. But if he would want to bowl right line and length, he wold be clicking mid-140s mostly.

It's a T20. You will get plenty of chances.

Hardik Pandya-led Indian cricket team on Tuesday won a nail-biting match by four runs against Ireland despite putting a mammoth total of 225 runs on the board in the second T20I at The Village in Dublin. Ireland batters were scoring boundaries and almost came close to chasing down the total, needing 17 runs from the final over to pull off a huge upset. India captain Hardik Pandya explained the reason for giving young speedster Umran Malik the responsibility of bowling the last crucial over of the match.

"I was trying to keep all the pressure out of my equation. I wanted to be in the present and I backed Umran. He has pace, with his pace it's always going to be tough to get 18 runs. They played some amazing shots, they batted very well, credit to them and credit to our bowlers for holding their nerves," Pandya said in the post-match presentation.

The 28-year-old skipper also spoke about playing in Ireland and receiving huge support from Indian fans. Pandya was grateful to the fans and said that their favourite players were Dinesh Karthik and Sanju Samson as they cheered loudly for them.

"The crowd, their favourite boys were Dinesh and Sanju. Great experience to experience this side of the world. A lot of support comes for us, we try to entertain them and hope we did that. Thanks to everyone who supported us," said the India captain.

"As a child, it's always a dream to play for your country. Leading and getting the first win was special, now winning the series is special as well. Happy for Deepak and Umran," he added.

Talking about the match, Top knocks from captain Andrew Balbirnie (60), Paul Stirling (40) and Harry Tector (39) went in vain as India snatched the match from Ireland in the last over, winning the last-ball thriller by four runs.

Earlier, Deepak Hooda hit 104 and Samson scored 77 as India posted a total of 225/7.

With this, India have won the series 2-0. Ireland though will walk away with a lot of positives as they were in the match till the very last ball and gave India a scare of the lifetime with their batting.

Low quality IPL brand of cricket won't help India win the high quality T20I WC. :inti

I knew that when he starts bowling in International cricket his speed will drop. Same happened with Khaleel Ahmed. I think Akhtar's record is safe. :inti

IPL is played by India and overseas stars both. So, both are helped by this. However, IPL has helped us win a test series in Australia as apparent by the fact that the likes of Pant, Gill, Washington Sundar, Siraj these youngsters came from IPL and win us a test series straightaway in Australia with no major international experience something which never happened before by an Asian team. :inti

IPL is helping Indian cricket in all formats but the players know that priority should be given to test cricket then odi cricket and then T20 cricket . :inti

Irish cricket fans will be able to enjoy watching the world’s number one T20 International side, India, when the Asian juggernauts return to Malahide for a three-match T20I series this August. To complete the summer men’s fixture announcements, the three-match World Cup Super League series against Bangladesh will be played in Chelmsford with tickets now on sale.

Earlier in the summer, Ireland Men will face Bangladesh in a three-match one-day international series that may result in a remarkable Cricket World Cup qualification for the Men in Green. The matches, to be played at the Cloud County Ground in Chelmsford, in early May are both sides’ final World Cup Super League fixtures. While Bangladesh have already qualified for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, a 3-0 series win for Ireland may see them also qualify automatically for the global tournament. If Ireland do not win 3-0, they will head to Zimbabwe in June for the 50-over World Cup Qualifier.

These newly confirmed fixtures complete a busy six-month playing schedule for Ireland Men which begins this month with the tour to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In total, Ireland Men will potentially play more than 30 matches between March and September.

Back in Ireland again:

1st T20I

Ireland XI: 1 Paul Stirling (capt), 2 Andrew Balbirnie, 3 Lorcan Tucker (wk), 4 Harry Tector, 5 Curtis Campher, 6 George Dockrell, 7 Mark Adair, 8 Barry McCarthy, 9 Craig Young, 10 Josh Little, 11 Ben White.

India XI: 1 Yashasvi Jaiswal, 2 Ruturaj Gaikwad, 3 Sanju Samson (wk), 4 Tilak Varma, 5 Rinku Singh, 6 Shivam Dube, 7 Washington Sundar, 8 Arshdeep Singh, 9 Ravi Bishnoi, 10 Jasprit Bumrah (capt), 11 Prasidh Krishna

India win the toss and will bowl

Samson should've been rested. He has failed the entire WI tour. Jitesh or Kishan should have been in the playing XI.

No his PR and lobby would have created a big ruckus on social media
His fans act like he is the greatest talent in India that never gets a long run. But whenever he gets a string of matches to prove himself, he either plays a brainless shot to get out or plays an average inning just enough to keep his place.

I was a fan of him until recently. But it is clear that he is a couple of notches below Kishan in terms of talent or impact.

Good recovery by Ireland - could have been a total disaster

Prasidh Krishna is a mediocre bowler. He has no variations for T20's. He is a 140k bowler that bowls gun barrel straight in the slot and hopes for the best.

The game is called off due to incessant rains. India win by two runs on DLS. So India go 1-0 up in the series.

Still early days for him! i think he is better than Umran Malik in terms of line and length with better consistency.

Jasprit Bumrah returned to international cricket with a bang. While he conceded a four off the first ball he bowled, Bumrah got a wicket off the second. He then took another off the fifth ball. India ended up bowling six bowlers in the first 10 overs and they dominated the phase.

Ireland were reduced to 59/6 after which Barry McCarthy and Curtis Campher led a fightback for the hosts. The pair put up 57 runs off 44 balls for the seventh wicket before Campher fell for 39 off 33 balls. McCarthy continued the assault, finished the innings off with a six and ended unbeaten on 51 off 33 balls.

Ireland thus set India a target of 140 to chase. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad got India off to a flier. While India lost two wickets in the first over after the powerplay rain came in and put an end to the match. India were two runs ahead at the time that the players went back and the tourists have hence taken a 1-0 lead.

Excellent batsman Ruturaj gaikwad. All the ingredients to be a consistent performer at top level. Always liked him

Rinku and Gaikwad strengthened their cases for 2024 T20 Cup. Samson again wasted an opportunity.

Today also Gaikwad , rinku and Dube played more impactful innings than his 40

Andrew Balbirnie hit 72 off 51 balls in an exciting yet losing cause as India takes a 2-0 lead in the three-match Joy e-bike T20I series at Malahide today.

Under warm, near cloudless conditions Ireland’s captain Paul Stirling won the toss and sent India in to bat first. After the visitors raced to 29 in the fourth over, Craig Young made the initial breakthrough for the Men in Green with Yashaswi Jaiswal out caught by Curtis Campher for 18 off 11 balls. Barry McCarthy then struck a second blow three balls later by removing Tilak Varma for 1, leaving India at 34-2 in the 5th over.

With Ireland sensing in-roads into the Indian batting line-up, Sanju Samson (40 from 26 balls) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (58 from 43 balls) fought back with a sprightly 71-run stand from 49 balls – peppering the boundary with 10 fours and a six to provide a launch pad for the expected final overs onslaught. Samson, in particular, was finding the straight boundaries with ease. However, just as he was looking set for a game-changing knock, he dragged on a ball that kept low from Ben White. Gaikwad – shortly after registering his 2nd T20I half-century – was soon back in the pavilion as well, having picked out Harry Tector at long on, India 129-4 with 5 overs to go.

Overs 16 to 18 went by modestly, with only 14 runs coming from them, but the tide then turned in the final two overs as the Indian batters took 42 from the last 15 balls. 22 runs came from the 19th by McCarthy, while 20 runs – and a wicket – from the last from Mark Adair as Rinku Singh (38 from 21 balls) and Shivam Dube (22 from 16 balls) smashed five sixes in a death overs assault on the home side attack. With that late boost, India finished on 185-5 from their 20 overs.

Needing a positive start in the run chase, Ireland stuttered losing three wickets in the powerplay to be 31-3 after 6 overs – Stirling (0), Tucker (0) and Tector (7) falling cheaply, each looking to play aggressive strokes on a pitch that was becoming a little slower as the day progressed.

Andrew Balbirnie (72) and Campher (18) steadied the ship with a 35-run partnership from 27 balls, before George Dockrell entered the fray at 63-4 at exactly the halfway mark of the innings. Balbirnie brought up his 10th T20I half-century as he and Dockrell began to up the run rate. The pair put on 52 in five overs before an unfortunate mix-up saw Dockrell run out for 13.

After two crowd-pleasing sixes from Balbirnie, the opener fell feathering a ball outside off from Arshdeep Singh, and Ireland’s cause looked lost at 123-6.

Adair provided a late flurry of runs (23 off 15 balls), but Ireland couldn’t sustain the rate and eventually fell 33 runs short.
