"India under Virat Kohli reminds me of Pakistan under Imran Khan" : Sanjay Manjrekar

When will Kohli fluke a global tournament?

Never , would be the underachiever or maybe will come back from retirement and win one.

Dhoni has 3 though.. not sure if there was point to prove here.. wrt Icc tournaments

There is a point, just not for you.

Virat's india are the best Asian team of all time. To be the greatest they have to beat England away and n.z as well.

Imran Khan was very famous and popular in the elite Western circles even outside cricket. Ladies and girls were dying to enjoy his company. Outside Cricket Kohli will struggle for an identity.

Indian Cricket was already on the upswing even before Kohli took over the reigns.

When kohli took charge we were like minnows in test cricket, we weren't even winning odis outside asia at that point of time.

What a load of tosh, India had already won a T-20, ODI WC under Dhoni and had achieved No 1 test rankings. Yes under Kohli India has achieved new heights but Indian Cricket was not really in the dumps when he took over as captain, his job has become ten times easier given the amount of talent in Indian Cricket, the first class structure, the system, the academies, the financial muscle of the BCCI, a fully booked FTP Calender, annual 2 month IPL tournament with the best international players at home, non stop international games at home and non-stop matches against the top 5 teams in the world. With all these things in your favor you better achieve the number one rankings in all the formats of the game.

Imran Khan did not have any of these things in his favor.

He is a poor captain, to be honest, he is yet to win any tournament... He has played 2 ODI world cup's, so many IPL's and T20 cups but his poor team selection has always failed him.

I doubt he will ever win any big tournament

Ok now...

This is even more laughable.

We all tend to get carried away based on meaningless bilateral T20s.

I wonder if Kohli reminds anyone of ik in the formats that matter. Even in T20s Kohli hasn't won any tournament.

Waiting for Mamoon to defend this too.

First whitewash for India in 31 years. This is unimaginable.

This guy has been piggybacking Dhoni and Rohit for 10 years, still hasn't learned a thing.

Not surprising given his IPL captaincy record.

Yep! T20Is doesn't matter when India wins but it would've been end of the world if Pakistan had Won.

This. RCB is a team full of superstars.

... And they can't blame AB this time.

What’s there to defend? He is a better Test captain than Imran, but he will not surpass him in ODIs unless he captains India to a World Cup.

To win trophies, you need some luck. Imran had it in 1992 but Kohli didn’t have it in 2019. Let’s see what happens in 2023.

Nope. T20s are meaningless and our #1 ranking is the most useless thing out there. It's fake and doesn't represent our true standing, but things are getting better under Misbah so we might have a chance at the World event, if we include some hitters.

Winning a series in NZ is not completely useless though so credit to Kohli, but it's nowhere near the level of winning in ODIs or Tests, and cannot be used to say Kohli is better than Imran or Clive Lloyd.

Countless away losses in Tests. Humiliation in Eng and SA and NZ. Yet he's better than Imran in Tests. Cool story.

The humiliation of Imran losing a Test in Sri Lanka in 1986 was bigger than the humiliation Kohli faced in England and South Africa.

Sri Lanka only won 2 Tests in the 1980s. It’s like Kohli’s India losing to Bangladesh today. Imran was lucky there was no social media back then, and fans were more forgiving.

Kohli’s overall captaincy record in Tests beats Imran’s to a pulp. Three times more wins and an equal number of losses in similar number of Tests.

The different between W/L ratio is far too great for any cross-era adjustments. The excuse that Imran played in an era of draws goes out of the window when you see that Kohli loses as rarely as Imran lost.

Playing in a result oriented era means losing matches is also easier than drawing matches. If Kohli’s number of defeats were far greater than Imran’s, like Misbah’s for instance, then the argument that Imran is the better captain would have had credibility.

However, there is no comparison between the two. Kohli is the GOAT Asian Test captain and he still has 3-4 years left.

Countless away loss? lol
He has only lost 7 tests away and 6 of those 7 matches were too close could have gone either way.. more importantly he lost all 7 toss in those matches..

And what you mean by humiliation in NZ?
He's never lost any test in NZ under his leadership! infact he defeated NZ in NZ in an ODI series by 4-1 last year!
